underwhelming food. as an expat south african i've been craving proper fish 'n' chips since arriving here. i've yet to find fresh cod in america so i'll be kind and assume the proprietor is honest in his claim of "fresh". neverthless the fish was of good quality, flaky and white, although strangely shaped like a tinkie (twinkie) instead of the familiar fillet shape. the batter was tasty, but thin and too soft. maybe another minute in the fat fryer? the fries were delicious and perfectly seasoned. however they were not chips, they were french fries. i know it's psychological, but when you grow up on "lekker slop chips", substituting them for fries leaves one wanting.

i was disappointed by the very american choice of "appetizers", with not a steak finger, sausage roll or scotch egg in sight (the latter, strangely, is a wednesdays-only "entrée" item.) i had a bit of my guests' bangers and mash, and it was very good, as was the shepherd'spie(though i'm used to minced lamb, not beef). the bit of steak & alepiei tasted was no better than the fray bentos variety found out my local pick 'n' pay supermarket back home.

the atmosphere is nice and "englishy" and the wait staff friendly and explains the menu well. the drinks choice was excellent. in summary, it's good food, but not great. i recommend it for anyone interesting in experiencing english food, but if you're a homesick expat, you may be disappointed.

disappionted!!!. i had high hopes for the londoner! i thought perhaps this would be a fun and different place to grab a bite that doesn't include sushi, chinese, or fast food. lets change things up a bit, br!!
i ordered the shepherds pie, some cheese fries, and the basmati rice with chicken. the shepherdspiehad little to no seasoning. the mashed potatoes tasted and looked to be instant microwaved potatoes out of the box and the peas were definitely from a can. it was weak! the cheese fries had been sitting under a heat lamp for what seemed like hours before they were served to us. the cheese looked old and crusty and the fries were dry and hard. they were also supposed to put green onions on the cheese fries, which they forgot. it seemed like they had microwaved the fries to melt the cheese. so disgusting! on a more positive note...the basmati rice and chicken was actually okay. however, when i pictured in my mind a skewer of veggies (onions, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, and zuchinni) i pictured nice big chunks if not whole pieces! instead, what was there were tiny baby sized pieces. absolutely pitiful! so, needles to say i will not be going back, nor will i recommend it to anyone!!!

not very good.. scotch eggs were good but when dipped into the sauce served with them, it tasted horrible. the shepardspiewas not anything like one i've had. it was not apieat all, it was the filling on a plate under a piece of bread. very bland. would not go back for food, maybe a beer but that is it.

1/13/18 this is a pub in central rockwall, tx. it has a typical pub atmosphere but isn't as loud as a general pub can be. the coca cola is very syrupy, fair warning. the guinness is on tap and very yummy. we ordered grilled chicken kabobs as a starter and they were very good. the dipping sauces were god as well though they really weren't english in style or taste. still good though. the entrees included meatloaf with sides, bangers and mash, and a cottage pie. (i would have expected shepherds pie, but it wasn't on the menu) my bangers and mash with gray was really wonderful. the sausage was pleasing in flavor and the potatoes were good as well. the meatloaf was good and it was even grilled to boot. all very tasty. the cottagepiewas another thing all together. it had a weird aftertaste, and was very soupy. there wasn't much in terms of veggies, and my son did't eat much of it and would not take it to go either. the green beans he ordered as a side, were of the frozen variety and had a horrible texture and no flavor since they had not even been salted. the service left much to be desired. the servers are walking around like zombies and have little personality, and we have to chase them down for the bill and refills of beverages. go when its not busy.

i am a londoner so was quite excited to give this place a try and was looking forward to my steak and ale pie.

the atmosphere was good and i liked the phone booth and the union jack pool table. the drinks were also good and my husband enjoyed his guinness. sadly, that was where our satisfaction ended.

the pastry on mypiewas soft and under-cooked and the meat was so full of pepper i couldn't eat it. i was told by the waitress that it was to cater for the locals. thankfully my husband has more of a heat tolerance than me so we switched and i had his fish and chips. it tasted ok but nothing special. the fish was a lot smaller than uk portions and it looked factory made rather than in-house. the chips were regular fries rather than the steak cut chips that usually accompany fish.

the waitress told me that the owner was british but none of the staff was.

my opinion is, if you are going to open a british restaurant, then the british food should be just that. if you are going to season everything to cater for the locals, that's fine, but give the place a different name.

bartender suggested the shepherd'spieover the bangers. really enjoyed it. good beer selection. friendly staff. good pub feel to the place. not too many tvs. pool table, dart board, golden tee, and a healthy scotch & irish whiskey selection. i'm going to be back to try the bangers. i wish i lived closer.

bad service? no service.. i don't even use urban spoon and i just downloaded it honestly because of how upset i was after the disappointment i had with my second visit to the londoner. a friend and i wanted shepardspiebecause there shepardspieis amazing but we weren't greeted or waited on for ten minutes sitting at the table that we had to seat ourselves at. they have a hostess desk up front where a hostess should obviously be. i will definitely come back to this place of business but not for a while because of this sour recent experience.

have visited several times, love certain dishes.. my family has visited several times and we really enjoy the pulled pork and spicy slaw sandwiches. i will agree some reviewers that the food hasn't been consistent, sometimes the pork is dripping with sauce and is too messy to eat, other times there very little slaw, other times there is plenty. i'm not sure if we've experienced different kitchen staff or what. we experienced a hostess that was not nice at all but the wait staff has been excellent and very willing to fix any problems. drinks have been inconsistent too but we visited a lot during the world cup and they were very busy. i hope to see improvement in consistency because because i really love the shepherd'spiebut the fish and chips are lacking flavor and are full of grease. i'm glad i didn't try that one first. it's good when you know what to order.

the atmosphere alone is unlike anything else i've found in baton rouge. great place to go any time of the day or night. the food does not disappoint. fish & chips is a staple item that is always good. pork sliders are flavorful. shepherdspieis pretty incredible as well. i've eaten here at least a handful of times and have yet to find something bad on the menu.

from a 'regular'. firstly, everyone, let's remember: this place is not necessarily styled on your typical restaurant. it is styled on a typical pub. as someone who spent twelve years in england and has thus frequented many a pub meal, i can tell you that pubs are more laid back. you would typically go to them for a lazy evening or weekend meal while you have drinks with friends or family. of course, you're still entitled to good service, but just bear this in mind. :)

my trips to the londoner are usually fueled by a wish to hang out with friends, with drinks, food and a game of pool, and i've always had a relaxing time. the atmosphere is laid-back, casual and fun. food has always been good (apart from my very first visit, where i had a very unfortunate run-in with an admiral'spiethat has since thankfully gone from the menu), hot and ample-portioned. though i don't drink, it seems and i've been told that the variety of beers and ale is pretty good.

in terms of authenticity, of course you can't beat a real british pub since it doesn't have age behind it, but they do really well and you can tell they're gathering their decor and settling in. the food gets fairly close (apart from the sticky toffee pudding - which is still good), and i encourage everyone to try the loaded cheese fries and shepherd's pie, and the salsa for the chips and salsa is fantastic. i've also had the smoked salmon, caper and cream cheese omelet which was pretty good. for the record yes, they do offer hot tea. :)

for those interested: pool has been around $6-$8 an hour and on occasion some of the cues and balls can be a little worse for wear, but granted, this isn't a pool hall - there are four tables upstairs along with two dart boards, a jukebox, fusball table and table shuffleboard. there are spots to sit outside and a balcony and additional bar upstairs (to bear in mind if you order food upstairs - the order has to be taken and has to come from downstairs!). brunch on sundays 10:30-3!

great food and atmosphere!. we thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to the londoner and long to go back. we tried a couple of different rounds of the beer samplers. green mussel appetizer as well as cheese fries (all yummy!). the fish n chips were amazing! everything is fresh, the fish was beautifully flaky and crispy. the dill tartar sauce was so good i could eat it with everything. hubby got the steak and alepiewhich was a big strong in flavor for me, but he enjoyed. i also tried the sheperd'spiewhich was also very tasty. for dessert we had the sticky toffee pudding and the fried bread pudding. all so good. great experience and anyone we've referred has said the same. cant wait to go back!

my fiance and i have been to the londoner twice. the first time we went, i had called hours ahead to make a reservation. when we got there, the hostess claimed she had no record of it and continued to seat other parties while she tried to "figure out" what was going on with our table. we sat for 20 minutes or so until a server finally saw our plight and sat us in his section. i got the bangers and mash and my fiance got the burger. tasted decent, mostly because we were starving by the time we sat down. the second visit i called and made reservations again and this time they weren't mysteriously lost. we sat upstairs because we were told it would be quieter. however, they had the lsu game on with surround sound. it was like sitting in the middle of tiger stadium - not what we wanted. i ordered the shepherd'spieand was very disappointed. it was more like meat stew with four inches of cold, congealed mashed potatoes and cheese on top. waitress was slow and not very bright. don't think the londoner has much of a future in baton rouge. we will not be returning.

pretty decent.. my boyfriend and i decided to go the londoner to finally eat last weekend, we've had drinks there before. this may just be nit picky, but the music was too loud and the booth was huge, my boyfriend is fairly tall and he had to scoot up to sit comfortably.
our drinks took a while, but they had to change out a tap so no big deal. we got the chips and curry as an appetizer and i was not a fan. the chips had cinnamon dusted on them, which just threw me off. the curries were worse, the "hotter" one tasted like taco seasoning mixed with water.
i ordered the chicken and chips before we received the appetizer and then prayed it didn't have cinnamon, it didn't thankfully. the portion was huge, there were at least 4-5 chicken strips and they were delicious. my boyfriend got the steak and alepieand he loved it. it came with white cheddar mashed potatoes and the steak was very tender.
our waiter was very nice and fairly attentive. i would definitely go there again.
