the keg steakhouse + bar -- saskatoon

cattle country?. i love the keg. in vancouver i go 2 or 3 times a month. my favorite one is in yaletown. never had a bad meal. saskatoon is where i had a bad steak at the keg for the first ( and hopefully only)timein my life. tough and flavorless. this is saskatchewan. isn't this where the steak is raised?

better service with a packed house.
the keg has always been a go to date night spot for my fiancé and i. the thai chicken is to die for and my fiancé loves the prime rib. tonight was the first bad experience we've had with the keg. our server was great to start with when the lounge was packed right full, very attentive and always asking if we needed another drink. the second the lounge cleared out our service was terrible. my thai chicken for the firsttimeever was so over cooked and dry, meanwhile our server stood right behind our table chatting with friends at the bar about her latest diet fails for over 20 mins while we sat with empty drinks and empty plates except for the lone dry chicken breast. i will say thank you to the manager as he handled it well and took the chicken off our bill entirely. however our server should have known better than to stand next to our table chatting with friends for as long as she did and leaving us completely unattended. disappointed to say the least. moral of the story, you'll have a great experience if you go during prime time, otherwise prepare to be forgotten.

food not so good again. this is the third and lasttimeto the keg in saskatoon (regina is waaaay better)the service was ok the prime rib was fatty and tough (for all 4 of us) the thia chicken was dry and tough.people don't mind paying high prices for good food, but this was crap.i don't know how this place can pack them in every night with bad food.

great new year's eve. we went here for new year's eve and we were not disappointed. my partner had the blue cheese filet mignon which was cooked to the perfect temperature (medium rare) and was absolutely delicious. i had prime rib which was also quite tasty even though it was more medium well than the medium i ordered. i also had a lobster tail which was fantastic (i'm from the east coast and was quite surprised). our waiter was quite friendly; although it took a while to get a second drink. however, this could have been to how busy it was at the time.

best prime rib ever!. i visited the keg for the firsttimetonight and absoulutely loved the prime rib with priscoitto wrapped shrimp. the prime rib was very tender and the perfect cooking temp (medium). i became a little adventurous and tried the escargot for an appetizer and i was not disappointed. the escargot come in mushroom caps and cooked in a sauce (garlic i believe). if you are looking for a romantic quiet atmosphere, i wouldn't recommend the keg. since it was a friday evening, the place is quite crowded and noisy. my server, on the other hand, was fantastic (quite infomative and friendly). two thumbs up for the keg! :d

great for apps. ok, so i ended up coming back again to use up my gift cards but thistimei stayed away from the steaks... nachos - a true home run. they were the best i have had in ages and the stuffed mushroom caps were to die for.

thank goodness! now i can happily spend my gift card bucks here and not give them away.

not worth the hassle. i keep getting gift cards to the keg and i have resolved to go for drinks only next time... maybe an appetizer...

the steaks are always of poor quality that i have recieved... then i send it back and usualy get a better one but feel guilty for complaining. the complaint has ranged from getting a med-well steak when i ordered rare to having some sort of muscle / silver skin running through the middle of my meat that made it impossible to eat.

a shared app and 2 mains, drinks should not take 1.5 -2 hours

mistakes that should not happen. we came here on a rare evening out without our kids and had some gift certs to use... service was great but my steak was more than 50% connective tissue which just should never happen at a steak house...

second steak was well done (ordered rare) and by thetimethey offered to bring a 3rd steak, i wasn't hungry any more... the server felt very bad for me and made me feel less awkward after my second complaint... if that steak had shown even a little pink, i would have eaten it but it clearly must have been meant for someone else.

their apps are good but even without my steak, drinks, apps and 1 main still ran us $140 with tip. i think i can hopefully find something a little better for that price.

surprised how nice it was!. i went for the firsttimefor a dinner function and it was all lovely. the food was good, though the salad dressing had little taste. the service was great and the only complaint i would have was that it was noisy, though i would return.

okay. i went there several times. since i am a chinese, i order medium well for most time. however, mosttimethe steaks need to cook again or i was lazy to change. if the steak is cooked properly, it is great. btw the service is good though.

still not a good thing. we went again for the 4 thtimeto try and see if the steakhouse would set us straight in our negative thoughts and experiences about the place. unfortunately once again we were let down by the main. this lasttimewe had a gift card and crossed our fingers.

me and my husband are going to stick to apps and drinks in the lounge here. they are worth it. i cant ever get enough of the mushrooms neptune or the escargot, such unique tastes, but the main courses with which they are supposed to be known for are always a huge let down. service is always good, if not a little forced with the happiness sometimes.

recently also went to the keg on richmond st in toronto downtown, and had an amazing main course, 2 nights in a row. so i believe ours needs to get either a better meats provider and maybe give the kitchen a revamp on main courses because the bearnaise sauce that i had in toronto was prolly the best ive ever had, ever.

i've been to alot of kegs, this one wasn't the best. good service but sub par keg food. there should be more consistency with such an expensive chain.

waste oftimeand money.... the keg is ok at best. the service is hit or miss. the appetizers are not bad, but overpriced.

though they boast that they use aaa prime beef, i would argue that they do not. it was not very tender, it lacked flavour, and the marbling was minimal. i've cooked way better steaks purchased at costco and cooked in my backyard.

don't stress your pocketbook here.

expensive, but great!. i went here for a staff christmas party last year. the food was absolutely amazing, however quite expensive for the portion sizes. 90% of thetimei can't finish a dinner meal at most restaurants and bring the leftovers home for my hubby to eat later, however at the keg i felt that i was still hungry after eating the chicken with garlic mashed potatoes. still, the taste and quality is fantastic. the atmosphere is classy, yet welcoming!

overpriced. i've been to the keg many times in the past. i went back last week for the firsttimein over one year. i have ordered the new york steak - keg sized - $32.95. it came with a baked potato for the side.

for the price that i paid, i was expecting a delicious steak. i ordered medium rare - it was over cooked a little bit (medium / med. done). the steak was rough, it was not juicy either. nothing like the keg in edmonton.

the service was just okay. took awhile for someone to get our orders and then waited 15minutes for the food to arrive. after that, the waitress came by 3-4times, which is good.

mixed thoughts. i went here last night for the firsttimewith a coworker, i was incredibly impressed with the quality of food and service.
we ordered the steak meal and the chicken cutlet, and both were amazing, as were the (slightly expensive) drink selections.

however, i was not impressed by the type of clientele this restaurant attracts, about 3 metres from the table i was sitting at, was a obnoxious gathering of 3 tables of fratboys yelling for the entire duration of our meal.

average. the keg has a beautiful decor and atmosphere on the inside, with a decent amount of parking out front.

i found the service to be very polite and prompt but at the sametimevery "tip toe lah tee da" if you know what i mean. i suppose it would be appropriate for a restaurant of that fashion. i don't know about you guys but i would prefer the service to tend me to when i require something, not constantly sucking up to me.

portion size is fair for the majority of their dishes. however more than once i have walked away from the keg still feeling very hungry, despite the fact that i spent over 90 dollars. mind you that was dinner for two with appetizer and desert but no wine.

meat quality is decent, by all means its not the best quality steak ive ever had but its definitely not the poorest either.

i would like to say that the keg would be something i would reserve for celebrations of special occasions but at the sametimei can also think of better, cheaper, more filling establishments as well.

i suppose it boils down to ones personality.

it's the keg. for a chain restaurant, these guys are very consistent and the prices are not at all unreasonable. had some appys and beer before a show the other night, (nothing mindblowingly exotic) very good, cheesy nachos, an almond-crusted goat cheese plate and cheesy herbed garlic shrimp, all perfectly wonderful. they've cooked a steak or two in theirtimeas well:)
