the hussar grill

13.04.2019 a quick post show dinner before heading home to miss the storms. we were seated by probably the noisiest table, who were screaming not speaking to one another. i didn't realise the hussar grill montecasino has a rather limited menu, more for the #meatlover which i'm not complaining about.

i stuck with my usualfilletsteak, (moutarde, double cream with blended mustards) and this time decided to go healthy with veg instead of fries. my family had a combination of chicken breasts, pork belly, trio of snails (garlic butter; smoked paprika and rosemary compound butter; and blue cheese), and hollandse bitterballen (double-cream béchamel studded with beef jus and beef bits, then crumbed and deep fried)

myfilletwas cooked to perfection and the mustard sauce was delicious, so was my veggies. my dads snails were not as great as we expected the different flavours were not that different to one another.

we ordered cappuccino's before leaving but they were not very hot.

our waitress winnie was lovely, very friendly and helpful 👍🏻

would definitely go back again for thefilletand maybe try some dessert.

a few weeks ago i was invited to visit the hussar grill at montecasino. i’ve heard great things about this premier grill house and so i was looking forward to the experience. my benedict and i arrived at the hussar grill on a busy week day evening and were quickly escorted to our table. we began with some starters. i opted for the mussel pot; mussels served in a white wine creamy garlic sauce. the sauce was flavourful and very tasty making the mussels a great choice. my benedict selected the springbok carpaccio. this was paper-thin slices of cured springbok loin dressed in an olive oil and balsamic reduction and topped with parmesan shavings. another great starter option. for my main, i went along with our helpful waiters recommendation; the chateaubriand. this was a succulent cut of beeffillettopped with brandy and flambéed before our eyes at the table – certainly an entertaining delivery. thefilletwas tender and perfectly cooked to my request. it was also served with a side of lovely béarnaise sauce. my benedict opted for the rump steak which was also perfectly prepared and very tasty. for dessert we shared the crème brûlée. the custard was silky smooth and delectable with a perfectly crunchy caramelised topping.

went to the hussar grill restaurant for dinner before watching a show at the monteteatro. all in all it was a good choice! this place is really a steak restaurant. everybody on our table had different cuts of meat which all was grilled to everybody's specific liking. i ordered the 600g t-bone (rare) and was not disappointed at all. it was grilled perfectly and had a good portion offilletand sirloin to it. the food was really good (you must order the onion rings). my only complaint is the fact that although we ordered our food timeously and notified our waiter of our pending show, that the service was a bit slow and we had to rush in the end to finish our food before the doors to the show closed (but i can say that during this whole time all the staff members were still friendly and helpful).

i was keen to try out a new grill so we popped in at the hussar grill. we were welcomed by friendly staff who are well organized. the ambiance is amazing with a european feel. we decided to have the snails for a starter. the snails were good but the cheese solidified making it difficult to combine with the snails. for mains we had calamari and squid heads as well as afilletbearnaise. the food was cooked to perfection. the meat is of a high quality choice cut and the sauce perfect. its the best french stylefilletif had in years. dessert was amazing, we had the hussar icecream dessert with vanilla icecream, nougat, honeycomb, marshmellow and dark chocolate sauce. hussar grill is definitely one of my favorite spots.

we shared the light hallomi meal as a starter. it was delicious. i particularly enjoyed the combination of vege with the crispy onion.
for main, i had thefilletwith mixed mustard sauces accompanied by corn with melted cheese. thefilletwas exquisitely done.
our meal ended with a traditional malva pudding a lindt vodka shot swirled with cream which i enjoyed.
further to this, terrance our knowledgeable waiter was a delight! he really added to the enjoyment of our evening.
all in all a great night out, and we will definitely be back.

a business colleague and myself decided to try the hussar grill at montecasino. having been to the one in morningside and myself many times to the original hussar grill in cape town we thought it would be good to compare notes. my partner ordered the sirloin on the bone and i ordered afilletboth medium rare with side orders of spinach and butternut. we both rated the steaks as average in the main due to the fact that the basting sauce overpowered the taste of the meat, which was a pity. wine was over priced although apparently you can take your own with mo corkage fee, dont see how that can be possible at montecasino maybe at other hussar grills. the atmosphere and ambience was average although they are trying to keep the hussar grill feel in mind.

an average meal with nothing to rave about on this visit.

booked a table at hussar grill monte casino on a thursday evening, we were well received and our table was ready and waiting - yay! we had an exceptional waiter - jared - he made wonderful and descriptive suggestions and he anticipated all our needs. really great service with a smile! such a pleasure! thank you jared!
we had a spread of meals: the lamb shank was a huge portion,delicious mash and a rich tasty gravy! calamari was also a large portion and well done! friends tried the blue cheese sirloin and pepper steakfillet- happy/stuffed tummies all round! wonderful comfort food! can't wait to return!
