the friendly tavern

found an excellent beef manhattan in zionsville. mom had the breaded tenderloin and gave it high marks as well. friendlyplaceand staff, great vibe too. worth a visit!!

mr. john smith. the friendly is a greatplaceto go and eat with close friends. the food is excellent, i personally love the rib eye or the filet mignon the chicken wings are also a fav of mine. two persons could eat them and have some left! they are not like most places where you can't decide if they are pigeon wings or the chicken died of starvation....no these babies are plump and good. the atmosphere is a bit noisy as the evening draws on but worth every minute!!

we tried to go in at 11:15am on a saturday. they wouldn't seat us because we had our 7 year old with us. considering the very large menu they said it was a bar and no minors are allowed. theplacewas completely empty and our daughter hadn't even made a sound - it's not like we would've been disruptive to anyone.
so apparently it's a bar, not a restaurant. don't go unless everyone is 21+

winter decided to ease up on us a bit and let the temperature soar to 40 degrees. so in celebration we decided to head north to hamilton county , specifically zionsville. a small town known for high property values, smart little shops and the friendly tavern. now who can resist a joint with friendly in its name? thisplacehas been around for more than 35 years. we know this because our bartender has worked there for 35 years. now that is staying power for both theplaceand the person. she has gone through 4 owners during that time. i dare say people would think they came into the wrongplacewere she not there. the menu features typical tavern fare, is reasonably priced and pat approved. http://kosherhamandcheese.wordpress.com/?p=2535&preview=true i noticed that their chili had won an award in the past. so, since the past is where most old dudes are comfortable, it seemed as though i should give it a try. i am glad i did. it was one of the best mid west style cups of chili i have eat

best burger in town!. i remember thisplacefrom several years ago. i was doing some work in town and stopped in for lunch. recently i stopped in and found that the nice lady that ran the bar was still there! thisplacehas a great burger and frys! good service and very friendly. all out burger with buffalo chips!

addition to my earlier review. while thisplacedoes not suffer from the club music that blares in many bars, they have no music or ambient sound at all. you have to hear all of the conversations and eating noise around you. they could add some music in this place.

the food is good. it is always crowded and a great low key atmosphere. it could use a few more tvs

thisplaceis a landmark, the average age is probably 67, but there's nothing better than grabbing a beer with my dad after a game of golf. the (amazing) wings are enough for two, and the tenderloin is the best i've ever had. i love this place!

the overall feel of thisplaceis, well, friendly. the waitress would always spend an extra second or two chatting when she stopped by. the owner came by and asked where we were from and we ended up in a conversation with the table next to us.

very nice spot.... okay...i'm reviewing reviews that i didn't review and i totally forgot to review this both times i went. so this is another retroactive review.

friendly tavern is friendly. being a transplant to indianapolis area, i made it a conscious decision to break out and go to as many "safe" and "accepting" places as possible. zionsville is supposedly suspect in this regard...but thisplacewas very nice and the servers were witty and helpful.

the first time i had the turkey reuben and a glass of lemonade. that reuben was great!

the second time i had a prime rib hoagie...wow! i was as full as a tick off that. very good!

the 3rd time i had picked up a friend from outta town and she was hungry. she was staying with friends in carmel and so i took her here and she demolished their turkey burger. i'm pretty sure it was good! lol. i had already eaten so i just have the apple dumpling with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. yummy!

bathroom story and bad service. my girlfriend and i had lunch at the so called "friendly tavern" last sunday . we found a booth and sat down . your server tressa came over and took our drink order and then disappeared . we kept waiting and waiting....after about 15 minutes i had to walk up to the bar and ask her if she forgot about us . she looked at me as if she didn't know who i was . when she finally came over and took our order she went into this long explantion on how she had to go to the bath room , she really shared more information then we really wanted to hear....i mean for gosh sakes we are trying to have lunch and she i guess felt the need to tell us every detail about why , how and when she had to use the bathroom . it took approx. 50 minutes for our food to arrive....and theplacewasn't even that busy . very disappointed and will not be returning .

st. patrick's day. i had the corned beef and cabbage for the first time. it was the best i've had anywhere. they served horseradish with it, which noplacei've eaten it has ever done. the cabbage was really good. thanks scott for a great meal!

great food!. the friendly consistently serves great food at a great price. service is always......well.......friendly! i've never tried the hot wings because i just can't move beyond the fried chicken wings--they are fantastic! i recently ate there for lunch and had the half sandwich/soup combo. the bread was fresh and overflowing with chicken salad and the tomato soup was flavorful. all of this for just under $6! i would recommend thisplaceto everyone. it's worth the wait.

friendlyplace& ok food. enjoy the tavern scene and convenient zionsville location. food is normally just ok. soup is often served lukewarm and a disappointment. sandwiches are nothing to write home about but ok if you are seeking a quick bite to eat. staff is friendly and attentive.placeis often crowed-i will try one of their daily specials on my next visit to the friendly tavern.
update: recently i re-visited ft. my dinner date ordered a blt; he very much liked the sandwich and i admit it looked very good.
