the farmhouse’s motto, “farm to table. tip to tail.” isn’t just a catchy slogan– its what they do everyday. and they do it really well. the food at the farmhouse is superb (like really amazing), the beverages are top-notch, and the servers are fun, professional and eccentric. while the farmhouse always features a lovely seasonal menu, the real show-stoppers are the daily specials which feature the flavors of our region and work with what their farmers have provided that week. every dish is a testament to its ingredients, crafted by expert hands with attention to detail. neighborhood: river market best time of day to visit: brunch is everything you want in a brunch, lunch is delightful, happy hour in the bar is one of my favorites and dinner is sensational (i’m not obsessed or anything…) recommended dishes: all of them. i have come to expect great things from the farmhouse and they rarely disappoint. every dish is an experience that tea

excellent food. exceptional service.. i took the family and a couple of friends here for brunch on sunday morning. the place has an appealing rustic look that fits the building and neighborhood. first thing i liked was the prompt attentive service of the waiter. he really made us feel like valued guests. the second thing i liked is the coffee served in the french press.

the menu is fairly simple and the food is exceptional. i ordered poached eggs and when i got them the yolks were cooked hard. very disappointing. the waiter not only replaced them, but he took them off the check. not necessary, but very impressive. again, they want to make you important.

as we were walking to our car, the waiter came running down the street as one our friends left a cell phone on the table. how easy would it have been to assume we were long gone, and wait for us to retrieve it. but nope, they again go above and beyond.

with great food and great service, you can bet i'll be back!

my beautiful brunch finale was the eggs benedict ($10) with missouri ham, brioche, poached farm eggs, and hollandaise. the highlight of this dish was the combo of tender and salty shaved ham and buttery brioche. without a doubt one of the better eggs benedict i've had in town. order with a side of fried potato hash ($2) for a delicious carb-loaded treat. the homemade ketchup is made with fresh herbs and rich tomato flavors.

a few weeks ago we went to the farmhouse for the first time.  it's been on my list to try for a while now, i love the entire city market area and every time i drive by the farmhouse it reminds me that i haven't tried it!  if i was to give stars i would give it a 3 out of 5.  it was good but not outstanding and for the price i think i wished it would have been more outstanding.  my favorite thing that we ordered was the cheese plate.  we love cheese plates and if there is one offered on the menu, chances are we order it.  this cheese plate was pretty exceptional with local cheese from green dirt farm and accompaniments with each different cheese.  then we moved onto my salad and matt ordered the special kale soup, which he thought was pretty disgusting.  he kept eating it and said that as he neared the end it had grown on him, but i dont really think i want to pay money for something that has to grow on me as i shovel it down.  :)  our entrees were good- matt got the steak and i got sa

delicious!. wow! we were in town from minneapolis and went to this restaurant at the recommendation of a friend who lives in kc.

we were not disappointed. we love local, farm fresh food and chef driven menus so this place fit the bill.

everything we ate from the appetizer to dessert was amazing. we had the short ribs and flank steak for entrees and the beef was grass fed and perfectly cooked. the strawberry shortcake for dessert was a nice way to end the meal.

they have a lot of fun looking cocktails that we did not try and a pretty good beer list. we were kind of disappointed that there weren't more boulevard options. we can't find boulevard many places in minnesota so my husband was hoping to get a good boulevard during dinner. i loved the lavender lemonade mocktail.

our server was nice but lacked in polished service and beer menu knowledge.

we loved the atmosphere and decor. it seemed very homey yet stylish.

we will definitely come back to see what is new on their menu when we are in the area again.

nope!. the wife, myself and another couple went here for dinner and drinks on a friday night. they seated us right on time for our reservation. from there the experience quickly went down hill. we waited a solid ten minutes for our waitress to acknowledge us and another ten before she showed back up with our waters. the drink order was placed and literally twenty-five minutes later they show up. we went ahead and ordered our second round right then. the average dinner showed up shortly after the salads hit the table so, we had to jockey our table for room. the hanger steak was somehow flavorless and the chicken breasts were dried out. the bright spot was the manager came over to apologize (unsolicited) and paid for our first round and a dessert which was actually delicious. this place is average at best.

fantastic brunch. i've eaten dinner at the farmhouse, and remember it being very good, but it has been two years since i had dinner there, as the last two times i've gone for brunch.

it's a little further away than some of my other brunch spot favorites, but their standard menu has an excellent steak and eggs entree, and they also have a fabulous specials menu that changes from visit to visit. for today's visit, i would have loved to be able to order multiple entrees, because the specials menu alone had some great-sounding items. i opted for a dish that put a lamb sausage and egg between two massive halves of a homestyle biscuit and smothered with sausage-herb gravy. it had a specific name, but i can't recall it now. not making the cut was a monkfish benedict, which was their standard (and delicious benedict) with a piece of monkfish instead of the local ham.

i've read some of the negative reviews about the service, but in both of my recent visits at brunch time (once on a saturday and once on a sunday), service has not been an issue. we've had the same female server both times and she has always been attentive, and helpful. maybe there are issues with the dinner service team, but i have yet to have a poor service experience in multiple visits.

the food is outstanding, and i think the prices reflect the quality of the ingredients (and the fact that they are locally sourced) and portion sizes fairly well. a must-try if you haven't been, and perhaps worthy of a second chance if you have an weren't impressed.

shockingly rude service. i went to brunch sunday with a friend. i have to admit, the food was good and the grits were exceptional. however, the waitress was beyond ridiculous. she was nasty and irritable from the moment we were seated. i don't know if she thought she knew us, or what the problem was.

she literally just glared at us in anoyance and shifted her weight on her feet when she walked up. she rolled her eyes and sighed when i ordered hot tea.

when i asked her what kind of tea they offered, she sighed again like it was a ridiculous question and said, "i'll bring you some and you can choose." then, as i was going through the tea box, she grabbed it out of my hand and said, "you only get one!" and took away the box

my friend forgot to push down the plunger on her french press and the server dramatically pushed it down for her and then pushed it towards my friend and then shook her head.

she treated us with total contempt the entire meal. we had planned to stay and have some cocktails after brunch, but since the waitress made it so clear she didn't want our business, we left.

update-10/12 outstanding. went for brunch this past sunday-the place was packed. our server was running like a mad woman but in spite of that she couldn't have been any more accomodating. quite honestly, we probably made her a little crazy and she was still great. we took awhile to order, asked a bazillion questions, needed seperate checks and on and on finally one of my friends even had her eggs recooked and the server just rolled with it-you never would have thought we upset her the least. now, because the place was packed, it did take awhile, but we went to catch up with friends so we enjoyed visiting. when we got our food it was hot and so delicious! i have only had corned beef hash that good one other place (cafe sebastion-but i had it another time and it wasn't that good there). all of us raved about our food and we each got something different. the only issue with the whole visit was all of our eggs were overcooked-only one of us sent them back. really, that is not a good law of averages, there really isn't a good excuse for dining someplace like that for breakfast and receiving over cooked eggs. but, it didn't affect our time there or the fact that the food was delicious. take all of these things into consideration and then choose to dine here-our meal was heavenly.

follow food carpenters advice and try the french toast!. went on sat with my daughter who was in from denver and my grandaughter. my daughter, a chiropractor and nutritionist was once a chef. she loved her omlet. they whipped up a grilled cheese and home made chips for the little one which she devoured-though the sprite was very impressive as she never gets soda. as i said, i took the advice of food carpenter and ordered the french toast. i'm telling you, i wish he was always with me to choose because that was a perfect plate of french toast. had they not had real maple syrup i wouldn't have even used any because it was just that good!! (i could never pass up real maple syrup) the whole meal was very reasonably priced, the only drawback is that everything is al a carte which probably does keep their costs down with people only ordering what they want but the prices are so reasonable that al a carte doesn't bother me in this case. i'm anxious to go for dinner. why don't you try it?!

i just can't decide how i feel. i've had breakfast here a few times and i just haven't been able to fall in love, or even in like with a meal. it makes me feel like there is something wrong with me because i know some people that can't get enough of this place. i find the food just ok and most of the staff annoyingly pretentious. that being said, the bar staff rocks and the bar food is awesome. we had roasted olives with almonds for the first time ever and man, i loved them! we have been in for drinks a few times (after stopping in for dinner and finding out that it starts at like 5 and if you don't have a reservation you are sol). i will be back again and again for drinks, but not for meals.

best service ever! i travel nationally for work and tonight i'm in kansas city on business. i found an awesome local farm/organic restaurant (through urbanspoon).  beautiful outdoor patio downtown (but still with an industrial edge)....my waiter tony was amazing....attentive and informative with great recommendations. the food and cocktails were some of the best i've had in a long time.
