a little underwhelming. the quality of the food was fantastic, being that it is super fresh. however, you cannot make a great dish just by having great ingredients. i had chicken friedsteakand eggs and pumpkin pancakes and they were good, but i still needed to find salt and pepper to help it out. i'm thinking this is a place better to have for dinner.

excellent food at a reasonably price. excellent food and service. unique modern cooking style with a fresh taste. we were seated right away on a saturday night even tho we didn't have a resurvation. we both ordered thesteakand home style fries,steakwas tender and cooked perfection , absolutely delicious. excellent food at reasonable prices, we will definitely be back.

 a few weeks ago we went to the farmhouse for the first time.  it's been on my list to try for a while now, i love the entire city market area and every time i drive by the farmhouse it reminds me that i haven't tried it!  if i was to give stars i would give it a 3 out of 5.  it was good but not outstanding and for the price i think i wished it would have been more outstanding.  my favorite thing that we ordered was the cheese plate.  we love cheese plates and if there is one offered on the menu, chances are we order it.  this cheese plate was pretty exceptional with local cheese from green dirt farm and accompaniments with each different cheese.  then we moved onto my salad and matt ordered the special kale soup, which he thought was pretty disgusting.  he kept eating it and said that as he neared the end it had grown on him, but i dont really think i want to pay money for something that has to grow on me as i shovel it down.  :)  our entrees were good- matt got thesteakand i got sa

delicious!. wow! we were in town from minneapolis and went to this restaurant at the recommendation of a friend who lives in kc.

we were not disappointed. we love local, farm fresh food and chef driven menus so this place fit the bill.

everything we ate from the appetizer to dessert was amazing. we had the short ribs and flanksteakfor entrees and the beef was grass fed and perfectly cooked. the strawberry shortcake for dessert was a nice way to end the meal.

they have a lot of fun looking cocktails that we did not try and a pretty good beer list. we were kind of disappointed that there weren't more boulevard options. we can't find boulevard many places in minnesota so my husband was hoping to get a good boulevard during dinner. i loved the lavender lemonade mocktail.

our server was nice but lacked in polished service and beer menu knowledge.

we loved the atmosphere and decor. it seemed very homey yet stylish.

we will definitely come back to see what is new on their menu when we are in the area again.

nope!. the wife, myself and another couple went here for dinner and drinks on a friday night. they seated us right on time for our reservation. from there the experience quickly went down hill. we waited a solid ten minutes for our waitress to acknowledge us and another ten before she showed back up with our waters. the drink order was placed and literally twenty-five minutes later they show up. we went ahead and ordered our second round right then. the average dinner showed up shortly after the salads hit the table so, we had to jockey our table for room. the hangersteakwas somehow flavorless and the chicken breasts were dried out. the bright spot was the manager came over to apologize (unsolicited) and paid for our first round and a dessert which was actually delicious. this place is average at best.

fantastic brunch. i've eaten dinner at the farmhouse, and remember it being very good, but it has been two years since i had dinner there, as the last two times i've gone for brunch.

it's a little further away than some of my other brunch spot favorites, but their standard menu has an excellentsteakand eggs entree, and they also have a fabulous specials menu that changes from visit to visit. for today's visit, i would have loved to be able to order multiple entrees, because the specials menu alone had some great-sounding items. i opted for a dish that put a lamb sausage and egg between two massive halves of a homestyle biscuit and smothered with sausage-herb gravy. it had a specific name, but i can't recall it now. not making the cut was a monkfish benedict, which was their standard (and delicious benedict) with a piece of monkfish instead of the local ham.

i've read some of the negative reviews about the service, but in both of my recent visits at brunch time (once on a saturday and once on a sunday), service has not been an issue. we've had the same female server both times and she has always been attentive, and helpful. maybe there are issues with the dinner service team, but i have yet to have a poor service experience in multiple visits.

the food is outstanding, and i think the prices reflect the quality of the ingredients (and the fact that they are locally sourced) and portion sizes fairly well. a must-try if you haven't been, and perhaps worthy of a second chance if you have an weren't impressed.

pleasantly impressed. despite the negative reviews, which are pretty negative, i went there with my wife. we arrived 20 minutes early with reservations and were promptly seated and greeted by our server.
we ordered the cheese plate as a starter and each of the 4 cheeses and topping (assorted candied fruits, etc..) was perfectly paired. my wife, not the cheese lover, was impressed...and ate most of it before i could.
dinner was the teres major (a cut like the tenderloin) and i had the chicken. i don't think i've ever had a better chicken anywhere and thesteakwas cooked perfectly. everything on the plates was delicious and paired perfectly with the meat.
the beer menu, also impressive, was wonderful. i had a paired beer with my dinner and it was great.
the last thing to hit our stomachs was the carrot cake. uhhh...fantastic. my wife and i had smiles the whole dinner... a seldom thing from the quality of food and preparation.

i'm not sure what happened with the people with the negative reviews, but this place is one of the best places i've been to in a long time. we will definitely dine there again...

delicious!!!. we ate at the farmhouse last friday night. i had the 365 day agedsteak(medium of course!) with a blue cheese butter, and my wife had the chicken and gravey. thesteakwas one of the top 5 i have ever eaten. it was moist and tender and the blue cheese butter really gave it a tasty bite. for dessert i had the rum cake, which was baked locally, and it was awesome as well. with everything being local and fresh, what's not to like about this restaurant? get over there and support this small local business, which helps support small local farms!!!

fresh from the farm. we tried the farmhouse out for brunch this morning and it was magnificent! we went with a group of people and everyone tried something different. there were rave reviews all the way around! i started off with the spinach salad. awesome! fresh spinach with raspberries, blackberries, peaches and top it off with some fried goat cheese!! i was sold right there! for my main entree i had the eggs benedict, it did not let me down! the others had thesteakand duck eggs, corned beef hash, and french toast ( also topped with berries and freshly whipped cream) i tasted them all and they were amazing! i can't wait to go back and try dinner sometime! highly recommended!

amazing and fresh food. everything was great here from the fresh salads and cheese plate to the perfectly cooked hangersteakwith blue cheese butter and pickled accoutrements!!! the fresh strawberry pie was amazing, you could tell the berries were bought that morning from the city market next door.

everything was great and i couldn't have asked for more. i would love to have taken pictures but my dining companion kept scolding me :) would write more but i'm in a hurry and just wanted everyone to know it is an exceptional place much on par to many upscale eateries in other cities.

mixed emotions. we decided to celebrate our anniversary at the farmhouse. in general our experience was fine with a couple of caveats.

the gourmet cheese plate we shared as an appetizer was exceptional...a nice selection of cheeses and sauces and an ample supply of crispy crackers. my wife's salad and pumpkin and squash ravioli won her wholehearted recommendation. the fries that accompanied my hangersteakwere outstanding...thesteakitself was just o.k.

on the negative side the wine list of exclusively french blends and varietals lacked choices that appealed to our domestic tastes. their commitment to locally grown and raised ingredients seems a mismatch with french wines.

the service was friendly although the pace a little uneven. in general we left the restaurant happy and curious about other interesting items on the menu.

great corned beef on the farm. i stopped into the farmhouse the other day for lunch. after considerable internal debate i selected the corned beef sandwich. great choice. the housemade corned beef and cabbage on marble rye was terrific. i'm going back to try the pork sliders.

horrible food/service!!!. went here to eat w/ my mother yesterday, we read reviews, and really only negative comment was regarding this establishments ketchup. i we are not picky either. well, we walked in and waited to be seated about 4-5 minutes. only problem w/ that was there were only 3 other parties dining, and 4 waitresses and the manager standing at the bar looking at us for the whole time ?!? ... but they wouldn't seat us until they were ready ... strike 1. they give you water to drink when you first arrive, only other choices are pop/tea/wine ... we cannot drink either so had to stick w/ the water. the water was tepid! made our gag reflexes come alive ... not something i would recommend to a restaurant. we asked for glasses of ice, but were told we would have to purchase a drink ?!? the waitress told us the other water they had (is served in a wine bottle) was cooler ... it was, my maybe a degree ... still lukewarm ... ugh! we ordered the chicken sandwich, and the hanger steak, medium well. the menu states thesteakis aged for 365 days, and we were excited to try it and the sandwich after reading good reviews about both. well, when thesteakarrived it came in 2 pieces .. the first piece was bloody raw, the second was well, well done. we shared plates and figured okay, maybe well try the well to see how good it is, and just send back the very raw piece. thesteaktaste was awful! my mother is asteaklover, and she could barely swallow this! there was no taste aside from char and the parsley that was clumped on top of it .. very, very bland. tried the fries next ... they come out looking well done, but figured after all the reviews, it the fries had to be at least good ...right? wrong! the fries were lukewarm, and tasteless. they were too dry and cold for salt to adhere to them, so we were forced to use the ketchup. the ketchup is true to the reviews we read, bland, tasteless ... tastes like smashed tomatoes w/ nothing else mixed in. we added salt and pepper ... but still wasn't able to choke this stuff down. so can't eat the fries alone, because they are too bad, and the ketchup is awful. the chicken sandwich came out, and looked and smelled good. after the first bite however, we could taste that the chicken was very moist and stringy ... it wasn't done .. nothing worse than almost raw chicken ... yuck!. the only thing that was edible on the sandwich b/c of the chicken was the bacon, which was good. safe to say, the only good thing to eat on our plates were the garnishes of pickled eggplant and squash .. it had a strong vinegar taste, but was good.

we rarely go out to eat anywhere special, and we were excited to try this place .. but it is safe to say, we will never, ever go back here. we had 2 waitresses serve us ... they both were not very friendly. after the water incident (my mother and i were very nice/polite) and how they acted, we decided it would be best not to send thesteakback, and just eat the well done portion ... didn't want spit in our food. we did wear jeans and t-shirts ... felt a little out of place since the other 3 parties were business lunches ... maybe this is why they treated us different.
it is your choice whether you want to try this place ... but again, we will never frequent this establishment again.
