the dark roast

came here twice in two days and the experience has been great. the french vanilla coffee is perfect for those who like it mild and the paneer bbqsandwichwas just right for a light lunch. service was swift, the owner doubles up as manager as staffing seems to be work in progress. ambience and music are top notch, with mellow decor and classic/soft rock in the background giving it a very chill vibe. here's hoping they don't change their playlist any time soon! credits niraj mulani

i have one really big complaint, no matter how good the food or place is, i will never return because they have a policy where they do not parcel the remaining food.
when i asked them if they'd rather trash the food instead they said yes and sorry this is the policy.
this is utter disregard for food and it's wastage.
really hope you can change that.

the place is not bad. good coffee and chocolate shake. the french onionsandwichwas really good. the nachos were average. no much flavour and the nachos itself were not great.
the service is really fast which is a plus.

we visited this cafe on a super hot monday afternoon yearning for a good of coffee. our order consisted of an iced coffee, a frappe and a french onion sandwich. now when you visit a place named 'the dark roast' you expect a coffee that would satisfy your taste buds and blow your mind but that was not the case. have had better coffee at 'non coffee' places.

thesandwichthough, it was amazing. perfectly grilledsandwichfilled with caramelised onions and mushrooms served with a mayo dip was a delight.

over all the place looks quite interesting but not so good coffee was quite a bummer for us.

this place actually knows how to roast a coffee. it was a lovely evening well spent with all the different types of coffee and food. 
espresso - medium and dark : i have a really special thing for black coffee. it boosts up the body and makes u feel energetic. their quality of coffee beans is very superb. black coffee roasted perfectly : 4/5
cafe bombon : this one is a proper balance of sweet and bitter. sweetness below and bitterness above. after stirring it, taste gets perfectly blended together : 4/5
blackgrape floater : this had lots of ice and it was more sour than sweet. so i didn't quite like this one : 3/5
tdr fries : these fries were cooked perfectly. crispy and filled with sauces : 3/5
beetroot and basil pizza : so when the name of beetroot pizza comes to mind, everyone of us would think how can one like this pizza but this is where everyone gets proved wrong. it didn't even occur to me that it does have beetroot in it because they added less beetroot and more cheese which balanced the taste and makes it worth having : 4/5
spicy classic cheese grilled : this is asandwichwhich is a mixture of spice and cheese. it was tasty but bread could be more crispy : 3.5/5

i have searched long and hard for good coffee in his city and have drawn a blank almost everywhere. i visited the dark roast hoping my search would end right here but i guess that would need a couple of more visits and a lot more coffees for that!

situated in prahlad nagar, you can spot this one next to a few home decor stores. it has two floors but they had a private event on the first floor so only the lower floor was available to walk ins. lovely interiors. sort of took me back to my favourite little cafes in mumbai and bangalore.

i walked in early evening when it was still empty and managed to find a table for myself. i set up my workstation and browsed through their wide selection of hot and cold beverages.

i started with the tdr special which was a cold coffee with a caramel, crushed coffee beans and lots of whipped cream. the drink was a pleasure for my eyes but very average for my tastebuds. the crushed coffee beans added no flavour but made the texture of the drink less appealing for me.

i also ordered a falafelsandwichand it was quite tasty. the bread was generously buttered and grilled to perfection.

the service was prompt but the personnel needs a little more training.

i can recollect, i visited the dark roast around 3.5 years back when it opened. was there to celebrate my salary raise with 2 friends. i was so happy with the food/ service and ambience that i still remember we had ordered arrabiata pasta, bbq fries, coleslaw and few drinks.

never got the chance to visit it again but whenever someone asked me where to get a good sandwich, i always recommended tdr. was meeting a friend for lunch and tdr was on her to visit list since long. i said okay! i would love to eat there again.

very frankly i was a little surprised to see that the menu had not changed, in most of the cases a lot of new addition/ removal happens in a food outlets menu over a period of time. though there were addition which were mentioned in a separate card, we decided to order from what i call the originals.

tdr has a house special sauce which is a very secretive recipe as they won’t disclose what’s in it, lol. the sauce is used in 2 dishes. one, the tdr fries and second, the tdr pastas. i decided to try the pastas this time and believe me it was delectable. i can surely say it was a very different and unique variant of a sauce that you might not get anywhere else. i am definitely trying the tdr fries asap.

other dishes we ordered were pink sauce pasta (jain), coleslaw, after 8 shake and affogato. thesandwichwas perfectly crisped as per my requirements but i felt the salad was lacking in taste. you can say the actual flavor was missing especially the vinaigrette. tried affogato for the first time which is espresso topped with vanilla ice cream, liked it. the jain pasta and shake were also up to the mark.

well, i was really happy to see tdr being so consistent in every aspect and i wish they keep doing the same. however, the next visit will happen in this month only and not in the next few years. kudos team tdr!

nb: they need to fix the ac of the ground floor as we felt it was not efficient in saving us from the heat. might also be less efficient as it was the only one who was on as there is separation between the sitting areas.

the dark roast is the best cafe in the prahlad nagar area. i personally visit this cafe with my fiance. my favorite dishes is mushroomsandwichand blueberry cheese cake.

we had great experience at the place and they have this amazing view of highway from the window. 
 interior of the place is eye-catching. neat and clean place with supportive staff.
 we ordered cheesy fries and grilled cheesesandwichthere and both the dishes were amazing. 
 they serve best coffee as well.
 you can hangout at the place as they offer books and so many options of indoor games as well. 
 fun place to go and spend some time with great food available. also, zomato gold should be applicable to coffees least.

good food and service, ambience is also good and something different i would say. although a bit more expensive, if you have zomato gold, the cost is reduced enough.
asandwichi ordered was around 260 and pasta i guess more than 300.

but if you can afford either without or with zomato gold then really nice place to go.
jain food also available.

the ambience is great but the food is pretty okayish. live sports screening is the only plus point this place has.

we ordered the following dishes-
french onion sandwich
bbq paneer sandwich
loaded nachos
pink sauce pasta
the nachos were very bland, bbq paneersandwichhad a massive imabalance between the bbq sauce and paneer so much that i couldn't even finish one piece of the sandwich. french onionsandwich& the pasta were tolerable.

this place is cool if you wanna hangout, play board games or watch a cricket match but don't expect more from this place in terms of food & beverages.

the dark roast : i guess when we listened the name, it is something about coffee and it is always good to have cafes like this in the city to satisfy your need for good coffee..i like the most about this cafe was the ambience bcs it too silent and peaceful when i went there and the walls of tha cafe was unique as well with a good colour combination and i can say i could sit for hours and hours in that place bcs it’s on the highway so you can enjoy a good view with a cup of coffee after that in their menu it’s not about coffee only you can order some quick bites so i ordered chocolate truffle pastry, corn and spinach sandwich, bbq fries , hot chocolate and cheese jalapeño poppers and it was delicious i like the most corn and spinachsandwich: the classic combination of spinach and corn between two slices of brown bread..the perfect comfort food 👌🏻 if we talk about bbq fries i say they value for money bcs quantity was much bigger than i expected. some good barque sauce , mayo and chives 😍after that pastry was no doubt best and cheese jalapeño poppers was good too one time you can try that ======================

cafe frappe was outstanding

real gem was grilled falafelsandwichwith dip.it was awesome ,a must try.

nice little place to hang out with friends and one of the best cafe mocha i have ever tasted. thesandwichhad slight oil, or it would have been perfect too but all in all a very nice place to visit.

had a wonderful evening with my friend.

ambiance was nice..although music was loud on ground floor we were allowed to sit on first floor.

we ordered irish coffee, frappe, falafelsandwich& heat wave pizza. drinks was nice,sandwichwas good..but pizza was ok.
and there was no proper spoon to serve pizza.. we requested staff to serve he was using fork and the toppings was falling off during serving.

overall good experience, ambiance was nice. service can be better.

best coffee in ahmedabad - loved vietnamese coffee - it has a mixed taste of dark roasted burnt beans. first sip itself blows the mind.

ambience is good.

food was a total let down. we ordered sandwiches, pizza and desert. falafelsandwichwasn't as expected but it was different and good. pizza and cheesecake weren't good. didn't like them.
