tavern burger is outstanding. we had lunch today for the firsttimeat tavern but it sure won't be the last!
the tavern burger is outstanding! made of beef ribeye and filet, the burger was juicy and the taste of high end beef. the plate was served with very fresh lettuce, fresh tomatoes, sliced tomatores and a "meltaway" bun which we believe means that it had butter on it as it was delicious! in addition, the burger came with a huge bowl of belgium fries (sea salt & garlic).
my friend had the mahi burger which was also served on a meltaway bun and very good. somehow he received different chips and when our server recognized it, she gave us even more chips. the sweet potato chips were some of the best i've ever had!
although the restaurant is loud during the lunch hour, by 1:30 we were able to converse at normal level.

i ordered the lettuce wraps. wanted something like with flavor. def was light. 3 leaves of butter lettuce, the chocked had obviously been pouched unseasoned to be used for other dishes. no sauce. i'm not taking about cheap this americanized dripping sauce.... the chicken was pulled apart and reheated the ends were hard. it was pretty though... the server took the amont oftimeto come to the table as my husband had finished his muffinetta ( veggie) which i ate half of. it's was butter soaked bun and need some kind of pesto or even a simple salt n peppering not just wet such and squash. bad bad bad. the manager was rude. the sever told me they were a " dry style" wrap... well in this case they were perfect. go anywhere else if you actually want to eat.

the tavern did seat us ( group walk in of 8 ) very quickly on a friday night and that was great however we were placed directly under these large amped up heaters. the heat was so strong! the cocktails took a very longtimeand weren’t that great. everyone really liked the food and the burgers really were delicious.

service is always great, but food is hit/miss. some things i've had, like the artichokes appetizer and burgers, are fantastic while some things, like the hamburger steak or fish tacos, are terrible. i've been three times in the past few weeks (a friend moved to the area) and eachtimethey've been out of the first beer i've ordered, eachtimea different beer. might just be luck of the draw, but all three times seems excessive. the atmosphere and seating are warm and inviting and the bar area is really cool. for the prices and setup, i would expect the food to be a little more consistent.

one of my favorite areas to eat in nashville. i always have their jerk chicken nachos to share. it has a creamy black bean sauce that amazing and their own verde sauce to dip the loaded nachos in. for entrees i usually mix it up eachtimei go. everyday is a different special and the menu has a different variety for every type of eater (gluten free options, etc)

maple fondue – cardamom-scented / fresh fruit / red velvet waffle / blueberry cornmeal waffle / grilled sausages / frosted flake pain perdu. again exiting the conference for an extended break as the city of nashville’s humidity finally gave way to rain, it was perhaps an oversight of vanderbilt’s love of a boozy brunch that saw us arrive at tavern to the tune of a 90-minute wait, thetimelargely spent wandering nearby centennial park beneath umbrellas until a text called us forth from the pantheon to be seated amongst a mass of humanity with well lubricated co-eds screaming to be heard above the loud tunes echoing from high ceilings overhead.

i decided to try brunch at tavern, the m street outpost that replaced the ill-fated miami inspired joint lime. i was hesitant to venture back in this building, as lime was one of the first places i went when i moved to nashville and it left a bad taste in my mouth. i went to have some post-class cocktails with friends and what i got was a middle aged meat-market. i wasn't looking for a sugar daddy and the calamari was dry, so lime was off my list. i was actually happy when it closed. but tavern surprised me, having a dark bar-like charm and none of the creepier lime clientele. i had been here for drinks before, back when steve was still djing their friday dance nights and i enjoyed myself. i've been eyeing the brunch menu for months, and with my parents in town for a visit this seemed like the perfecttimeto try it. this menu makes me wish i was a cow with four stomachs. everything sounds delicious to me and i wished that i had more than one place to put it. red velvet waffle?

great place. when tavern first opened, i honestly tried not to like it. i had low expectations before i dined here my firsttimeand thought that it was going to be another trendy, over-priced, mediocre dining experience. i was wrong. i've been for dinner, lunch, and multiple times for brunch (this is one my favorite brunch spots...i'll elaborate more in this in a minute). the sweet potato chips with the warm blue cheese fondue is an awesome app. i've heard the "chicken skins" are awesome too, but i can't bring myself to try those. the nachos are huge and enough to share with a table of ten. the junk salad is my absolute favorite salad in nashville. it has everything that i love in it: crispy lettuce, shrimp, pepperoncinis, tomato, cucumber, etc. my husband loves the burger and i am so interested in the chicken and waffles, which again i can't bring myself to order. all of the tacos are ahhhmazing and fresh. but, my favorite part about tavern is their brunch on saturday and sunday. i love going here in the summer for brunch, but especially in the winter too. 2 for 1 brunch liberations=great deal+great drinks. where to start with the brunch menu-my favorites are: benedict dos (with smoked salmon), huevos rancheros, and the singapore stir fry (which is again, my husband's favorite). also, if you need a side to choose, do not skip the white trash hash...you'll love it.

great place to be with friends. i love bringing my out of town guests here on early saturday afternoons to have a great brunch and start to the weekend!

the tavern, located in midtown nashville, has everything going for it, starting with a warm welcome, good eats and hospitable service from beginning to end. it's exactly what it's name declares, a tavern with the comforting favorites like burgers and five kinds of french fries to non-traditional bar food such as lobster sliders and several choices under the section of the menu called "the skinny." there are four menus , lunch, dinner, brunch and late night served from 11:00 to 1:00 a.m handsome big screen tv's for sports viewing adorn a contemporary decor, including a beautiful urban faux finish that as a former faux artist, i had to take sometimeto admire. our first impression at the table was the server, who took hertimeon a busy saturday night to tell us about the menu and all her favorite choices. we saw the famous burger at the table next to us, which was enthusiastically recommended, but we were in the mood for lighter fare. we shared the lobster

rude much?. yes, rude hostess! great food! it's too bad that one comment can completely change the way we feel about a place. when we arrived it was busy and we were told it would be a 40 minute wait for a table. no problem, we got a seat at the bar and had a finetimewaiting. after 45 minutes my husband went to check on the table and the hostess said it would be another 30 minutes. my husband said that was unacceptable to which she replied " well, you can go somewhere else. this is a very popular place." really?! no matter how busy you are, you never have the right to speak to guests that way. it's too bad because we really liked it otherwise. i can't financially support a place that apparently doesn't need my business.

really?. a huge fan of lime and especially virago, i finally got around to experiencing tavern. not a fan of the decor, but i got past that. took quite a while to be even greeted by our server, but her delightful demeanor made up for it. then it cametimeto order...i ordered "2 tacos / baja-style tilapia / jicama slaw / guacamole." now, being from southern california, i wasn't expecting "baja-style" to be anything but grilled fish highly seasoned. further, i asked the waitress if they were served on corn or flour tortillas, to which she responded either were available. i requested corn and explained that i had a gluten allergy. when she handed me my meal, i handed it back and said i could not eat it. it was breaded, then deep fried. this would have been good information when i ordered it. oy. clearly she had no idea what gluten is. (i expected more, as it's sister virago understand this concept of gluten-free.) but, she graciously apologized and offered a grilled version in 5 minutes. i was ok, asked my dining companions to go ahead and eat before their's got cold, and was happy she immediately tried to make it right for me.

here's where it gets ridiculous. after the 5 minutes had already passed, a manager comes out, with a follower who had with the tacos i sent back 5 minutes before just behind her. she then proceeded to offer my now not fresh fish tacos to anyone else at the table for half-off. what? i explained to her that since i was served poison after i clearly identified a food allergy, if she was going to offer them at all, they should be free. then i explained that i did not appreciate her trying to cover her food cost by auctioning off this mistake at my table. how rude. instead of backpedaling and taking responsibility for the mishap to begin with she just said, "ok" and walked away. i never once got an apology for anything. it was appalling.the four of us were totally floored at her indifference.

i thanked the young server for just doing the right thing to correct her honest mistake, then explained i did not expect anything free, nor discounted--it was a $9 dish at a glorified bar--i didn't have astronomical expectations. i had no problem waiting on it to be corrected; but for her manager to do what she did was totally unacceptable.

i will plan to stick with virago, where the wait staff is knowledgeable, classy and discerning. definitively more my speed and style, as well as a better fit for my dining standards.
