tavern

went to tavern for saturday brunch. it was packed, but that’s pretty usual for them, so i was still expecting decent food/service. that’s not what i got -servicewas very slow. it took more than 30 minutes for our food to arrive, and we had to ask multiple times for our bar drinks (although the bloody mary’s were delicious... once we got them). i ordered the smoked salmon eggs benedict (they call it the dos) and the salmon was definitely just cold salmon from a can. yuck. also the english muffin was burned and the eggs were waaaay undercooked. not edible. not to mention the whole thing was so cold it could’ve come straight from the fridge. i could’ve done a much better job myself at home, with better salmon, and not paid like $13. i will not be returning to tavern, which is sad because it used to be a great brunch spot. not sure what happened.

we sat outside on the beautiful patio for a light summer dinner on a sunday evening. my companion ordered the special, a short rib quesadilla, a very generous entree enough to serve two people. the meat was fork tender and lightly spiced. we also ordered two fish tacos, one grilled and one fried served on corn tortillas, both were delicious. i requested the guacamole be served on the side (not my favorite topping) and our server, mariah noticed the guacamole was actually on the fish when she served our meal and asked if i’d like the tacos replaced. i responded that i could just scrape off the guacamole. later, we ordered the cinnamon roll bread pudding with caramel and mascarpone cheese (do not pass up this dessert!) and mariah kindly comped the dessert because of the guacamole mixup. theservicewas prompt, friendly and informative (she recommended the dessert!). don’t miss the sangria, the perfect drink for a warm evening, not too sweet and served with fresh strawberries and blueberries.

had the tavern burger with blue cheese. lots of cheese which i love. the burger was under seasoned but the fries made up for it. had the chicken scratch beer. i would have that again. theservicewas prompt and friendly.

great atmosphere but sitting in the bar area can be crazy even early in the night. the burgers are great and the sweet potato fries with jalapeño ketchup are not to be missed.serviceis a little spotty.

this is billed as an upscale pub fare restaurant and one of the better ones in the vandy area.  theservicewas generally quite good.  selection from the bar was above average with plenty of local and near regional beers and spirits.  the food selection was quite promising and in general well prepared and presented.  flavor was not great.  most everything was unseasoned and pretty bland on average.  i probably would give this a second try, just in case it was an off night for the kitchen, as everything else was pretty good.

the food was decent but theserviceterrible. the waitress got an attitude when i (nicely) told her that she brought me the wrong drink (and it was on my birthday!). she also chatted with her waitress friends while we waited 15 to 20 mins for her to come back to get our check.

the tavern, located in midtown nashville, has everything going for it, starting with a warm welcome, good eats and hospitableservicefrom beginning to end. it's exactly what it's name declares, a tavern with the comforting favorites like burgers and five kinds of french fries to non-traditional bar food such as lobster sliders and several choices under the section of the menu called "the skinny." there are four menus , lunch, dinner, brunch and late night served from 11:00 to 1:00 a.m handsome big screen tv's for sports viewing adorn a contemporary decor, including a beautiful urban faux finish that as a former faux artist, i had to take some time to admire. our first impression at the table was the server, who took her time on a busy saturday night to tell us about the menu and all her favorite choices. we saw the famous burger at the table next to us, which was enthusiastically recommended, but we were in the mood for lighter fare. we shared the lobster

a lot like whiskey kitchen. elevated bar food, the sweet potato fries are great, as well as the turkey sandwich on pretzel bread. lobster hushpuppies were good but didn't taste like lobster. we went around 6 or 630 on weeknights both times and theservicewas fast and friendly. good cocktails, too.

fabulous first experience at tavern! even though our wait was rather long ( it was a weekend), theservicewas stellar from beginning to end-- the server was extremely attentive, despite the crowded bar area that we were sitting in, and offered extensive help with the very diverse menu. had the burger- it was nothing short of phenomenal, and tried both the fried chicken and the guacamole...both fabulous! will definitely be back.
