steve runs a tight ship with a lot of heart over here. he greets us everytime we come in, he is quick to seat us and he is the owner. once they messed up my order and he personally took me to the kitchen to show me (and the line cook) how it was done. that's what it takes. nice one... another place where warm welomes can be the dealbreaker because at the end of the day this issoutherncusine at it's most typical. president obama should have checked steve out... might have been best mates.

interesting. this place doessoutherncooking with a twist. the twist is it's different from mostsoutherncooking because it mixes upscale presentations withsoutherndishes and uses more than just fat and salt for seasoning. i ordered a porch chop plate which included an order of lemon turnip greens which were very tasty, an order of tomatos and an order of cucumbers. my chop was very tasty and juicy, not cooked perfectly, but acceptable, the lemon greens were tasty as well. my only problem was an order of cucumbers totaled five small sliced pieces drizzled with a vinegar dressing. at two dollars for this vegetable it was a complete rip off. that come to 40 cents per small slice. the same can be said of their order of tomatos which were three thin slices. we are in georgia, tomatos and cucumbers are plentiful, what's the deal? oh yeah, gouging the customer. be aware of this when ordering at this restaurant because poor food values abound and good food values are what drive frank. he cannot be fooled by trendy styles and food network propaganda. sweet potatoes is decent catered-type food, but a great value it is not.

featured on food network! adam richman from "man vs food" came for the peach glazed bbq chicken, which is their famous dish. he also enjoyed their world's best banana pudding, which may very well be! i love banana pudding and you must save room for desert so you can enjoy some. my mom joined us for sunday lunch and she ordered the peach bbq chicken. i ordered the catfish which was perfect! crust with a crunch but the fish was tender as could be. for my 2 sides i picked sweet potatoe fries and brussel sprouts. the fries were much more fresh and flavorful than most sweet potatoe fries and had sprinkled sugar and salt on them to give them a good savory/sweet flavor. the brussel sprouts were mushy and i prefer mine a bit more firm in texture. my wife ordered the buffalo chicken salad which was big. it was ice berg lettuce topped with large fried chicken tenders, bacon, blue cheese and blue cheese dressing. it was not very spicy. the atmosphere is casual and very colorful inside. if you are looking for some goodsouthernfood then this place is for you!

fantastic. if you're looking for some greatsouthernand soul food outside of the main tourist areas in savannah, sweet potatoes kitchen is great! i loved the catfish with tomato relish, extra seasonings gave it a unique flavor. sides of black eyed peas and corn pudding were surprisingly flavorful and my biscuit was delicious. the sweet tea was weak and not to my liking but didn't detract from the meal.

the ambiance was a quirky mish-miash. brightly lit with bright colors, half the restaurant is finished in hardwood floors and decorations on the wall that reflectsoutherncharm, the other half has an old linoleum tile that elicits a feeling of being in a gas station.

service was very good, plenty of attention was given by the hostesses and servers, though delivery of the food was slow, 15+ minutes on an evening when the restaurant wasn't half full.

overall, though, great food at a very reasonable price! probably not the place for you if you're looking for a romantic dinner out, but if we want a tasty meal in a casual setting, get yourself to sweet potatoes kitchen.

unpretentious & yummy!!. so delicious! it's hard to explain the type of food but here is my attempt--**southern + upscale comfort** but i must elaobrate...it'ssouthernfood but not your typical savannah shrimp and grits. and its comfort food but not greasy cafeteria style meat & 3 type place. i had the cornmeal crusted catfish with tomato relish and sweet potato fries and corn pudding as my sides. the homemade tarter sauce was tangy and awesome! corn pudding was a little sweet but very good. my boyfriend had the catfish blt with sweet potato fries and absolutely loved every bit of it! he described the "divine combination of textures involving the crunchy perfectly fried fish, crisp thick bacon and lightly buttered and toasted bread" that left him wanting another bite (he actually said this). actually both of us cleaned our plates and even polished off their famous banana pudding which did not disappoint! the service was friendly, you dont have to deal with the crowds and parking of downtown dining. we will be going back!!

one of the top five restauraunts in savannah!. i love this place. if you want really excellentsouthernfood, go to sweet potatoes kitchen -- don't even think about going to paula deen's lady and sons. always some sort of sweet potato on the menu, biscuits are to kill for, so many selections of sides -- you'll definitely find something you want. i have never had anything bad here, an i have eaten here many, many times. there are daily specials and daily sides and vegetables along with their regular menu. try the corn pudding. it's awesome. and the fried chicken, the pecan-crusted trout i had as a special a few months back, the pork loin -- all excellent. and absolutely perfect sweet tea. the price is right, too.

my favoritesouthernrestaurant. the realsouthernfood is made in a healthy way, but tastes wonderful, and at a very reasonable price. we had to return again before we left the south. i loved the catfish, lemon collards and the fried okra. i'd always hated okra before this. many types of sweet potato dishes rotate on the menu. the banana sweet potatoes were excellent.

very good!. it is a shame this place isn't downtown, as it would give that other lady a run for her money when it comes to goodsoutherncuisine. this is the real thing. being a student in savannah for so long, i wish i had known about this place sooner. great food, and good service. not super fancy or uppity; a very nice family dining experience. great if you are south-side for dinner and a movie.
