steve runs a tight ship with a lot of heart over here. he greets us everytime we come in, he is quick to seat us and he is the owner. once they messed up my order and he personally took me to the kitchen to show me (and the line cook) how it was done. that's what it takes. nice one... anotherplacewhere warm welomes can be the dealbreaker because at the end of the day this is southern cusine at it's most typical. president obama should have checked steve out... might have been best mates.

interesting. thisplacedoes southern cooking with a twist. the twist is it's different from most southern cooking because it mixes upscale presentations with southern dishes and uses more than just fat and salt for seasoning. i ordered a porch chop plate which included an order of lemon turnip greens which were very tasty, an order of tomatos and an order of cucumbers. my chop was very tasty and juicy, not cooked perfectly, but acceptable, the lemon greens were tasty as well. my only problem was an order of cucumbers totaled five small sliced pieces drizzled with a vinegar dressing. at two dollars for this vegetable it was a complete rip off. that come to 40 cents per small slice. the same can be said of their order of tomatos which were three thin slices. we are in georgia, tomatos and cucumbers are plentiful, what's the deal? oh yeah, gouging the customer. be aware of this when ordering at this restaurant because poor food values abound and good food values are what drive frank. he cannot be fooled by trendy styles and food network propaganda. sweet potatoes is decent catered-type food, but a great value it is not.

featured on food network! adam richman from "man vs food" came for the peach glazed bbq chicken, which is their famous dish. he also enjoyed their world's best banana pudding, which may very well be! i love banana pudding and you must save room for desert so you can enjoy some. my mom joined us for sunday lunch and she ordered the peach bbq chicken. i ordered the catfish which was perfect! crust with a crunch but the fish was tender as could be. for my 2 sides i picked sweet potatoe fries and brussel sprouts. the fries were much more fresh and flavorful than most sweet potatoe fries and had sprinkled sugar and salt on them to give them a good savory/sweet flavor. the brussel sprouts were mushy and i prefer mine a bit more firm in texture. my wife ordered the buffalo chicken salad which was big. it was ice berg lettuce topped with large fried chicken tenders, bacon, blue cheese and blue cheese dressing. it was not very spicy. the atmosphere is casual and very colorful inside. if you are looking for some good southern food then thisplaceis for you!

average food, nice ambiance. i wish there was a so-so button. the restaurant itself is a cute establishment. the food was overrated in my opinion. i had the peach glazed chicken with cabbage and sweet potatoes. everything was just ok. aplacewith the name of sweet potatoes should have the bomb sweet potatoes. i could've made this dish 10x better at home. so disappointed.

fantastic. if you're looking for some great southern and soul food outside of the main tourist areas in savannah, sweet potatoes kitchen is great! i loved the catfish with tomato relish, extra seasonings gave it a unique flavor. sides of black eyed peas and corn pudding were surprisingly flavorful and my biscuit was delicious. the sweet tea was weak and not to my liking but didn't detract from the meal.

the ambiance was a quirky mish-miash. brightly lit with bright colors, half the restaurant is finished in hardwood floors and decorations on the wall that reflect southern charm, the other half has an old linoleum tile that elicits a feeling of being in a gas station.

service was very good, plenty of attention was given by the hostesses and servers, though delivery of the food was slow, 15+ minutes on an evening when the restaurant wasn't half full.

overall, though, great food at a very reasonable price! probably not theplacefor you if you're looking for a romantic dinner out, but if we want a tasty meal in a casual setting, get yourself to sweet potatoes kitchen.

never again. hello, 

this doesn't even earn one star!
i personally have been coming to sweet potatoes for the past 8 years and have had nothing but a positive experience; however, i will never support this establishment ever again! i spoke to a manager about our annual chatham county deaf and hard of hearing thanksgiving feast. i was looking for aplaceto host our gathering and i thought to myself what betterplaceto have it! the food and service is perfect! well, things started off great. he was enthusiastic to have us and we have been in contact for about 4 or 5 business days and made plans and set prices, and when i told him we would be there from 11 to about 1:30, he decided to let me know that he would no longer host us because they would lose business!!!!!!! not only was i shocked and appalled, he didn’t let me say anything and actually hung up on me without saying goodbye. bad choice mister! not only was it not professional, it was heart wrenching when the students got so excited about the thought of having their 20th annual thanksgiving feast at sweet potatoes a restaurant i brag about every time i go there, just for me to turn around and say that we have been dismissed. sweet potatoes, you have lost the business of over 50 upset patrons, with which i am sure there will be more to follow.

amazing gem! sweet potatoes doesn't look like much from the outside - it's in a tiny strip mall on the edge of town, next to an insuranceplaceor something. you almost wouldn't notice it. but i hope you do, because thisplaceis just amazing. i saw some reviews and suggested to my family when we were all visiting savannah. we're a big group and we love good food, and all of us left happy! everyone ordered something different - pot roast, pot pie, tilapia, barbecue chicken, meatloaf... nothing disappointed! the pot roast especially was a very big hit. it was incredibly tender and so flavorful! only a few of us had room for dessert, and the banana pudding was absolutely divine. on top of all that, the service was spectacular - our server was funny and very attentive, a really nice guy. could not recommend this restaurant more!

i normally don't write reviews but felt the need to write this one. my visit here was alright. would i go back, no. i tried the the peach chicken and thought it was bland, don't see what all the rave is about. my boyfriend ordered the meatloaf and said it was bland as well. bannana pudding was good but i have had better. i was very hyped up about thisplacesince i saw it was on man vs food and we were on a roadtrip and savannah was one our stops but was not amused and can't see what all the hype is about

good soul food. man i miss this place. i would often go with my mom for lunch but since i've moved to jacksonville i can't go as often. i would always get the same thing...blacked tilapia with mac n cheese. the pecan butter, however, is what makes theplaceunique. you have to ask for it (no extra charge). when it all comes out, before you do anything spread it on your warm biscuit first so it melts... but wait until after you are finished eating your meal to eat it because it is like dessert. omg it is heaven. i want to go back.
