interesting. this place does southern cooking with a twist. the twist is it's different from most southern cooking because it mixes upscale presentations with southern dishes and uses more than just fat and salt for seasoning. i ordered a porch chop plate which included an order of lemon turnip greens which were very tasty, an order of tomatos and an order of cucumbers. my chop was very tasty and juicy, not cooked perfectly, but acceptable, the lemon greens were tasty as well. my only problem was an order of cucumbers totaled five small sliced pieces drizzled with a vinegar dressing. at two dollars for this vegetable it was a complete rip off. that come to 40 cents per small slice. the same can be said of their order of tomatos which were three thin slices. we are in georgia, tomatos and cucumbers are plentiful, what's the deal? oh yeah, gouging the customer. be aware of this when ordering at this restaurant because poor food values abound and good food values are what drive frank. he cannot be fooled by trendy styles and food network propaganda. sweet potatoes is decent catered-type food, but agreatvalue it is not.

birthday lunch. we just got back from the sweet potatoes kitchen and i loved it. today i had a short break from schoolwork to celebrate my birthday and it was exactly what i'd hoped for. the staff was incredibly nice and efficient, the food was excellent, and there was agreatatmosphere. i definitely recommend it! my fiance' loved the fish and i had the jerk chicken salad and we thought both were excellent. they had the best sweet potato fries we've ever had. the sweet potato salad was good, but it wasn't something i'd probably order again based on my preferences.

came here for a late lunch around 3pm and were immediately seated and sweet tea brought to the table within the minute we sat down. service was very friendly without being overbearing. staff really knows their menu and seem proud of the place.

mains: i got the 1/2 mixed peach bbq chicken, very tender and moist. peach bbq meatloaf was excellent as well. the peach bbq sauce was sweet with the slightest hint of spice with visible slivers of peach and pepper. catfish blt was easily 10 inches long and reportedly delicious though i didn't get a bite.

sides: all of their sweet potato sides are also very sweet (fries are served dusted with brown sugar) so keep that in mind when ordering. corn pudding wasgreatand didn't skimp on the corn. cucumbers with vinaigrette were a perfect contrast to the sweet rich food.

dessert: it hardly needs to be said that the banana pudding was to die for, serving size was 1 1/2 cups but rich enough for 3 to share.

would definitely recommend to others and will be back myself.

it's somewhere between a diner and mom and pop soul food joint but it's seems like it wants to be a southern/soul fusion spot. food is good, and staff isgreatbut if you are looking for something extremely unique keep looking.

went to sweet potatoes many times while in savannah, and always loved it. amazing meatloaf and their peach bbq sauce they serve with it is great, sides vary by the day but we're always good, and nice biscuits. i have actually tried making meatloaf and my own version of the peach sauce since moving away from the area, and it's good, but if i'm back in savannah i will be there for lunch, and am willing to wait, as it can be crowded, i guess havinggreatfood can make that happen.

fantastic. if you're looking for somegreatsouthern and soul food outside of the main tourist areas in savannah, sweet potatoes kitchen is great! i loved the catfish with tomato relish, extra seasonings gave it a unique flavor. sides of black eyed peas and corn pudding were surprisingly flavorful and my biscuit was delicious. the sweet tea was weak and not to my liking but didn't detract from the meal.

the ambiance was a quirky mish-miash. brightly lit with bright colors, half the restaurant is finished in hardwood floors and decorations on the wall that reflect southern charm, the other half has an old linoleum tile that elicits a feeling of being in a gas station.

service was very good, plenty of attention was given by the hostesses and servers, though delivery of the food was slow, 15+ minutes on an evening when the restaurant wasn't half full.

overall, though, greatfood at a very reasonable price! probably not the place for you if you're looking for a romantic dinner out, but if we want a tasty meal in a casual setting, get yourself to sweet potatoes kitchen.

now that was good food!. our family of 9 plus our brand new grandson ate at sweet potatoes kitchen last night. josh was our server and tookgreatcare of us, going out of his way to make all of feel very welcomed and at home - even bebe j. the catfish was perfect, both the fried and blackened. the pot roast melted in our mouths. the jerk pork was delectable. the sirloin with blue cheese was excellent. we passed forks full of food up and down the table. and yes... the banana pudding might be the best on earth - surprisingly bringing some competition to mama's banana pudding at rico's in buford.

great lunch. they have a consistent menu and one that changes with specials. someone told me to get the fried chicken if they offered it so i did. i learned not all fried chicken and sweet potatoes are created equal. the chicken was crisp and juicy and the sweet potato was just...fantastic. i can't go more in depth since i was a little congested and couldn't get the full flavor experience but i loved what i could taste of their peach chicken and banana pudding.

their chocolate pecan pie was beyond heavenly. it was agreatwarm and chocolately end to our meal. if your only experience with pecan pie is the hard, cold stuff, you need to try this one.

the real deal.greatdown-home cookin', friendly personal service.

the catfish is the best i've had...crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. the pecan butter on biscuits is delicious. the famous banana pudding lives up to its reputation.

plus - genuine crayola crayons for the kiddos! none of those fake waxy ones.

outstanding. we make several trips a year up to nc. part of our tradition is to stop for dinner in savannah. we wanted to try a restaurant away from the historical district. after reading many reviews, we settled on sweet potatoes. what agreatfind.
linda, our waitress, was pleasant and helpful. the biscuits were light and just out of the oven. i had the blackened tilapia with roasted corn salsa, corn pudding and beans and rice. my wife had the salmon cakes, potatoe fries and brussel spouts. each was excellent in their own way. for dessert i tried the banana pudding. while i like my pudding warm, the pudding was truly exceptional.
we can't wait to return to the area to try other menu items.
