steve runs a tight ship with a lot of heart over here. he greets us everytime we come in, he is quick to seat us and he is the owner. once they messed up my order and he personally took me to the kitchen to show me (and the line cook) how it was done. that's what it takes. nice one... another place where warm welomes can be the dealbreaker because at the end of the day this is southern cusine at it's most typical. president obama should have checked steve out... might have been best mates.

interesting. this place does southern cooking with a twist. the twist is it's different from most southern cooking because it mixes upscale presentations with southern dishes and uses more than just fat and salt for seasoning. i ordered a porch chop plate which included an order of lemon turnip greens which were very tasty, an order of tomatos and an order of cucumbers. my chop was very tasty and juicy, not cooked perfectly, but acceptable, the lemon greens were tasty as well. my only problem was an order of cucumbers totaled five small sliced pieces drizzled with a vinegar dressing. at two dollars for this vegetable it was a complete rip off. that come to 40 cents per small slice. the same can be said of their order of tomatos which were three thin slices. we are in georgia, tomatos and cucumbers are plentiful, what's the deal? oh yeah, gouging the customer. be aware of this when ordering at this restaurant because poor food values abound and good food values are what drive frank. he cannot be fooled by trendy styles and food network propaganda. sweet potatoes is decent catered-type food, but a great value it is not.

this is the restaurant we can't wait to eat at everytime we visit savannah. the food is simply perfect - succulent, fresh, well-seasoned, and nicely presented in generous portions. this is the soul food you'll dream about when you're in colder, northern climes. highly recommended!!!

birthday lunch. we just got back from the sweet potatoes kitchen and i loved it. today i had a short break from schoolwork to celebrate my birthday and it was exactly what i'd hoped for. the staff was incredibly nice and efficient, the food was excellent, and there was a great atmosphere. i definitely recommend it! my fiance' loved the fish and i had the jerk chicken salad and we thought both were excellent. they had the best sweet potato fries we've ever had. the sweet potato salad was good, but it wasn't something i'd probably order again based on my preferences.

featured on food network! adam richman from "man vs food" came for the peach glazed bbq chicken, which is their famous dish. he also enjoyed their world's best banana pudding, which may very well be! i love banana pudding and you must save room for desert so you can enjoy some. my mom joined us for sunday lunch and she ordered the peach bbq chicken. i ordered the catfish which was perfect! crust with a crunch but the fish was tender as could be. for my 2 sides i picked sweet potatoe fries and brussel sprouts. the fries were much more fresh and flavorful than most sweet potatoe fries and had sprinkled sugar and salt on them to give them a good savory/sweet flavor. the brussel sprouts were mushy and i prefer mine a bit more firm in texture. my wife ordered the buffalo chicken salad which was big. it was ice berg lettuce topped with large fried chicken tenders, bacon, blue cheese and blue cheese dressing. it was not very spicy. the atmosphere is casual and very colorful inside. if you are looking for some good southern food then this place is for you!
