came here for dinner on a friday night and the place was packed, thank god we made reservations beforehand. love the atmosphere and the table setting where everyone sits around the sushibarwhere we could watch the chefs prepare the sushi and sashimi.

we ordered the agedashi tofu, mixed tempura, wagyu skewers, atlantic sushi (salmon sushi) and bay bug tempura sushi. my favorite was the wagyu skewer because the wagyu was very tender and juicy and sort of melts in your mouth, the wagyu was also seasoned beautifully. the sushi were really great too, but the atlantic sushi lacked some flavor, perhaps you could add some sauce in it. the agedashi tofu was nice too, the broth was yummy. the mixed tempura was nice and crispy.

will definitely be back!

i settle at the sushibarfor a lovely dinner. i love this place and have traditionally dined at hemmesphere (the cocktail lounge which is connected to the restaurant), however today i have decided to dine at the sushibarinstead. it is a great way to see the food being prepared and a much more social setting being surrounded by fellow diners and interacting with the staff.

i am visiting sydney and a very lovely friend of mine recommended this place and oh boy i had a great lunch.
i was the first person in, as i booked at opening time, mind i was wearing shorts and a crew cut black sweatshirt even if they stated in the email the dress code was smart casual, i would have not been surprised if i would have been sent away at the door, but it did not happen. i sat at the large bar, stunning interior, nice long marble sushibarand some other tables for larger groups. casey (hopefully i am spelling her name right) was absolutely delightful and knowledgeable.
after presenting the specials she gave a couple of suggestions on what to order. unfortunately they serve san pellegrino as sparkling water, which is the death of sushi and delicate flavours with the chalky consistency so i did have panna as a still water option.

i had the edamame ( classic) they were perfectly cooked and i liked the they came still attached to the small branches, it looked great. after that, some sydney rock oysters with two different toppings: the shiso granita, surprisingly delicious even if a bit sweet and the ponzu, perfectly balanced ( i usually ask ponzu on the side as it can be unbalance and therefore very harsh on oysters). the wagyu uramaki was juicy and tender, the short rib inside was perfectly cooked. tuna dynamite temaki was delicious and spicy , i loved the nori they used, it is of a great quality indeed. the absolute highlight was my main dish, the king crag soba noodles, very generous portion and incredible umami. this dish is the reason i would go back to this place. perfectly balanced flavours tender noodles and mouthwatering crab meat. fantastic!!! i had a gorgeous ssb from western australia, their premium wine selection is outstanding, wish i had more time in sydney because i would go back and try more!
oh and thanks for the dessert you sent to my table, was just the cherry on top!! ( or the pannacotta strawberry in this case, ah!)
thanks so much to my waitress and the team again for the experience.

we were able to walk in without a booking, and sat at thebarwhere we watched one of the chefs prepare our sashimi and sushi, which was a lot of fun. we ordered oysters with ponzu, kingfish sashimi, a medium plate of sashimi (12 pieces), balmain bug, wagyu tataki and a dynamite sushi roll. our favourites were the wagyu, which was served with pickled onions and egg yolk, was smokey, creamy and melt in your mouth delicious, and the balmain bug tempura- crispy, meaty, inventive and extremely flavourful. the sashimi and sushi were both very fresh and delicious.

for drinks we had the "inglorious bastard" cocktail, which tasted quite herbal, and "senpai", which was fruity and refreshing. both were welcome accompaniments to our meal, and neither was too strong.

service was very professional; overall we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and appreciated the extra touch of complementary dessert!

very expensive place with a classy vibe to it which is good for dates, special occasions etc. you can be seated around thebarwhere you can watch the chefs prepare the food for you, or be seated behind them on small intimate tables.

we were able to get seats straight away on a thursday night (~6:30pm) which was awesome. had some problems with our order though wherein they brought us a dish that we didn't order and mixed up another one of our dishes. they let us have one free of charge which was very nice of them, and they charged for the other one since we decided to keep it. we later realised they never brought us one of our other dishes, so we checked up on it and turns out our waitress didn't put the order through. it was fine though since at this point, we were quite full. overall, mistakes were made and it wasn't a big deal but service was just a bit slow at times.

onto the food! most of the sashimi/sushi was great, some pieces were pretty tough to chew, perhaps served too soon. sushi e style kingfish was very tasty, nothing amazing but it was quite a decent portion which was good considering the pricetag. my favourite dish was definitely the miso cod - so succulent, so very delicious. would definitely recommend it. they also gave us all some complementary panna cotta, which was a lovely surprise :)

overall, the food is above average and very well presented but i'm really not sure if it's worth the price.

this is the best place for a date night or a catch up with a friend. the set up is so everyone can sit at the sushibarand watch them make your sushi! ive been here twice now and its one of the best japanese restaurants i have been to. the oysters were fresh, the wagyu beef were soo tender and mixed well with their sauce, their sashimi are always fresh. love their service also and will be back again when i come by sydney for anothet visit.

there was not enough places at sushi e today so you got to dine at the comfortable sofas at thebarnext door.

sushi e is one of the most expensive sushi restaurants and the probably the most disappointing. the kingfish sashimi, spicy scallops and chawanmushi are very average. you can try better sashimi at sake or glass brasserie. the foie gras chawanmushi tasted no better than those you could find elsewhere because the foie gras does neither enhance the taste of the chawanmushi nor make it more appealing. furthermore, i hope the chef know what ingredients are essential for chawanmushi because the all important ginkgo is missing.

one of the biggest disappointment in town.

this sushibaris right in amongst the trendy establishment. great atmosphere. the sushi chefs working hard and do not lose focus at all. fresh sashimi of high quality, soft shell crab and bay bug sushi made to order. on the higher end of japanese dining with a good selection of alcohol, i can see the appeal.

sushi e had escaped my attention until a few weeks ago. the reviews and rating looked promising and i was not disappointed. dishes for the evening were the sashimi plate, salt and pepper cuttlefish and the highlight the wagyu roll. the rice in the roll was so light it like it wasn't there; the smoky beef flavour clear and present. the cuttlefish was also excellent and of the sashimi simply melted in the mouth. meals like this reminds me i don't eat japanese often enough. sitting watching the team prepare the food is fun particularly seeing a length of zucchini turned into a wafer thin sheet from skin to the core. kudos to thebarstaff also. my cameron kick was outstanding.

march into mervivale (merivale’s 5 week long food and drinks event calender) takes us to their large palatial coogee pavilion. stalls from mr wongs, el loco, papi chulo, deus, sushie all feature with eats from all the vendors. luckily the weather gods were kind and the passing shower came and went. we spent 4 hours at the event and the always bustlin coogee pavilion was a hub of foodie fans and the festival catered for all; even the young uns with puppet shows and their large play area. we did mention deus were here and for a nifty 2 tokens (approximately $11.25) you can net yourself a nice deus logoed tee that they screen printed on site. got tokens will travel. going from the top down. the adults only coogee roofbarwas bustlin. march into merivale didn’t extend upwards but you’re able to wander round with your eats and dine upstairs. the seaview and the 3-4 bars upstairs means you’ll be well taken care of.

sushi e is part of the oh-so-chic establishment, the entertainment venue on george street. located on level 4 and adjacent to the lounge/bar hemmesphere, sushi e is modern, sophisticated, and sexy as hell. head sushi chef nobuyuki ura (pictured below on the right) and his team are fanatical about sushi, and if you're dining as a pair they seat you at the marble sushibarso you can see all their knife work. i briefly walked around before our meal and the precision and dexterity as they worked was incredible. i love sus

great food, great viewing. when i travel to sydney i often come to this place if i am dining alone. a stool at the sushibaris the ideal place to enjoy your own company and watch the parade around you.

the food here is very good...most of the japanese favourites with a few twists and very high quality produce. at the sushibaryou can watch the chefs prepare the food, the waiters rushing from table to table and diners coming and going. it's easy to lose track of time.

the wine list is very good also. the whole thing may be a little more expensive than your average japanese restaurant but the quality of the food and the experience of the restaurant make it worth it.

i’ve been to sushi e more times than i can count over the years. it is seriously good japanese. but it also comes with an accompanying serious price tag. if you don’t mind that, pull up a seat at thebarif you’re on your own or with a friend; or grab a table for four or six; or, if you feel like settling in for a while, take a seat on one of the plush lounges at the adjacent hemmesphere and kick back – its quite easy to pass several hours there, with the dulcid tones of al green, or other great music from the hemmesphere cd selection, in the background, cocktail in hand. over time, i’ve probably worked my way through most of the menu. i always order the sashimi, it is first rate, and the delicious prawn shumai with the ponzu sauce. i could eat trays of the shumai, but at a hefty $18.50 for six, one tray has to do (shaun presland, who started here, also does a similar version at sake ). one dish i hadn’t tried before which i really liked was the crab san choy bow – recommended. but….i

it’s not my first time eating here, but after a few very satisfying and consistent sushi experiences, i have left every time with a good impression. the restaurant itself is small with most of the seats being placed around the sushi bar. there are a few tables on the side which are more suitable for slightly larger groups but i prefer sitting at thebarso i can see the sushi being made fresh. the chefs here cut sashimi and make sushi as you order so nothing is pre made or pre cut. there is definitely a difference between freshly made to order an
