busy, noisy, designer chic, full of 30 somethings. and a great night out. the food varies from ok through to brilliant.

i didn’t order the food which 4 of us shared. someone chose ‘sweet and sour pork’ which would not normally be something i’d enjoy. too many average dishes when we were living in hk. but here it was outstanding. the pork tender but seared and the sauce depth just lovely. juicy thom kha mussels resulted in much finger licking. a vegetarian curried pumpkin was pleasant enough. appetisers of grilled sausage ( very, very good) and shaved wagyu in rice roll ( not as good, with the rice overwhelming the wagyu).

service was enthusiastic and friendly despite the frantic pace of the restaurant.

i can well understand the popularity of syg. and highly recommend to those of you not bothered by the noise level.

love the food at syg, this place is now on our must do every time we’re staying in the area. most recently visited during the christmas holiday period and again with friends over the australia day long weekend, excellent food and service both times. will return for more tasty treats.

laksa kingfish - it actually tasted like a laksa, thanks to the fried shallots i think, massive tick
wagyu tartare - tasted exactly like a beef rendang in a raw form, so delicious
barra larb - haven’t had larb like this before that’s for sure. salty, sweet, tangy, fresh, everything
sri lanka pepper curry - a good curry
roti - i’m malaysian, so i’m abit if a hard marker. it wasn’t as good as i had imagined.

service was quick and friendly. a huge list of alcohol to choose from.
highly recommend

we came to sum yung guys after seeing highly rated reviews. where to even start? the food was over powering in salt and spiciness there was no flavour to the dishes we ordered, the fish in the green curry was dry and over cooked, no flavour but spice in the paw paw salad and pork dad daew. the service was really pushy as well, our waitress kept pushing us to order more even though we were content with what we wanted. as someone with an asian background this is honestly a disgrace to “asian food”. i presume the only reason why the rating is so high is the fact that it is located in noosa and everyone there thinks that this is the “standard” that asian food should be. to top it off my partner and i both got upset stomachs from the food. if you are experiencing constipation this would be the perfect place to go to really clear your bowels. you can get perfectly cooked asian green curry, tom sum, and dad daew in brisbane for under $20 with double the portion size. i would suggest getting the basics of asian cooking right before even trying to attempt a pitiful effort at modern asian fusion.

we visited sum yung guys for a birthday dinner and enjoyed the 6-course degustation (the only option with restricted dining). the food and service was awesome, the vibe was relaxed yet classy and the drinks were delicious. we couldn't get through the food despite arriving hungry. i can't wait to return to sum yung guys for another feast!

if you’re going to sum yung guys make sure you book because walk in spots are limited. restaurant is perfect for groups as the menu is share style.
🍽 ordered 3 medium, 3 large and a couple of sides for a group of 6. was plenty of food. highlights were the crying tiger beef, sweet pork cheek and the cuttlefish. however, all dishes were very tasty and all very different.
💁‍♀️ very busy place but services was attentive. water glasses were continually filled. orders taken promptly. bit of a wait between medium and large dishes but that’s fine when the food is delicious.

terrible and baffling experience. we turned up and we got told to sit at the bar and have a drink for 10 minutes, which actually resulted in us having our whole meal squashed at the bar after being completely ignored by the staff. nobody explained that there was no table for us as promised and acted as if we were lucky to be eating there regardless of where we were sat. had we of known this we would have politely declined and left as they were practically shaking and making cocktails on our laps! needless to mention the unbelievably rude waitress who scoffed in our face when we asked to finish the meal at one of the handful of empty tables to which she said “you’ll have to ask terry”. i asked if it would be possible that she could ask terry as we did not happen to know the staff on a first name basis. terry told us we could not sit any tables and that people wait 3 months to sit at one. we did not ask or care. in their defence, the food was great so a pat on the back to the chefs!

the flavors are full on and fresh with lots of surprises. the menu is not kid friendly but is friendly on flavour. be prepared for a hit of chilli and a word of warning most of the dishes are fairly spicy so bring the mylanta. the space is nicely decked out and i think this is the best restaurant space in the village. a winner make sure you book well ahead and grab any sitting you can.

we didn’t walk out full of disappointment and regret. (but burning mouth and later burning ring) for sunshine coast dining this is rare. great atmosphere, great food, great service. just one thing i noticed as we could see into kitchen...young female chef was handling her mobile, then food. no skin off my nose but probs not best practice. also there’s chilli in absolutely everything. “smoked tomato jam” was so spicy i was literally in pain. maybe they mistook chilies for tomatoes? no choices for spice level. i’ve traveled extensively through asia and didn’t encounter this much chilli. even in thailand. otherwise, excellent...
well done yung guys.

reservation arranged personally for 24people. rang couple weeks later to confirm booking after email ignored to be told no booking documented. no alternate choices given or any apologies. maybe customer attention and satisfaction not so important as their reputation grows. unlikely to recommend again
