fantastic lunch buffett. as a self pronounced buffet connoisseur, i've made my rounds to pretty much every indian buffet in the city. what i had today though was clearly the best thus far. the selection was the largest (most indian buffets have few options), they had a semi-spicy chicken vindeloo (rare to find any spice in a buffet), and tender and moist tandoori chicken (most is dry). i will be back here again and highly suggest everyone looking for a better indian option to check this place out as well.

p.s. they have the best coupons for dinner available in the city and you can download them off their site.

favorite restaurant in town. this is our go-to comfort food restaurant, period. my husband and i go every other week as our payday date night. the owners know us and always greet us with a smile. we have never received anything less than excellent service here. if you've never tried indian cuisine before, dharminder will make suggestions and help you pick something you like.

my husband goes for one of two dishes each time - he orders either the lamb jogan rosh or the tandoori chicken. his test dish for any indian restaurant is the tandoori chicken. if the tandoori passes his taste test, then he will check out other dishes. he's tried a few of the other lamb dishes, but he really likes the spice combination used with the lamb rogan josh.

i'm the adventurous one and have tried most of the dishes on the menu. the saag here is my favorite in town, hands down. it's creamy, has a good spinach taste, and the saag choley is a perfect blend of the spinach and chickpea flavors. (i've tried all of the vegetarian saag dishes and can recommend all of them.) another favorite is the bindi masala. it's not your grandmother's okra, and that's why i enjoy it so much. my other veggie favorite is the bhartha. the spices used complement and accentuate the eggplant. as for the meat entrees, i'm partial to the sizzling tandoori offerings. i frequently order the chicken kebabs, but i recently tried the fish tikka and it was wonderful.

as i said in the subject line, this is our favorite restaurant in town. if i've had a bad day and need comfort food, i point my car in the direction of shaan and know i will not be disappointed in the food or the service. dharminder and rani greet us with smiles and make sure we always leave with a smile on our faces and a bag of food to enjoy the next day.

d-i-s-a-p-p-o-i-n-t-i-n-g. man oh man , i usually dont go for indian cuz its too spicy and this was a bad choice. i read the reviews and so i went but the food was not good, there food was dry and service was less than pleasant. i ordered there chicken tandoori and it tasted more really dry and hard . save your money and go to baba atleast they get it right when it comes to service

as with other reviews about this restaurant, the service was subpar, the food was okay besides the fact that it came out cold and flavorless. twice our server forgot things and didn't even bring certain things to the table. basically unhappy with the food and the desserts were a complete joke. go to dusmesh. on ludlow instead. we are kicking ourselves today for coming to this place.

sub-par service and an impolite owner. i don't much care for indian food, but as far as it goes the food at this place is decent. however, the service has consistently been, cold, uninviting, and downright inappropriate. at first things were subtle enough to ignore: an inattentive waiter here, or a dirty look over a reduced tip during the buffet (it's a buffet!). but things got much worse one crowded night when we were essentially ignored for ten minutes while two empty tables sat unused. we left and went to baba's instead, which sat us as soon as a booth opened up.

tonight we decided for whatever reason to give shaan another chance. huge mistake. dinner was fine enough, but afterwards the owner awkwardly asked my girlfriend what name she went by, as she had written a review about our previous experience. on top of that when taking the bill he said thank you sir even though it was clear she was paying. this was highly inappropriate and completely unprofessional, not to mention chauvinistic. rather than redeeming his restaurant, the owner's impolite behavior has ensured we will never be eating there again.

one last thing during dinner my girlfriend noticed that her chicken tikka massala tasted just a bit off... based on the owner's behavior i don't want to know what the special ingredient was. avoid this place at all costs. go to dusmesh instead. great service and better food!

good food at a really great value. we try to get over here once every couple weeks and we've eaten at the buffet probably 4 or 5 times now. we'd go more often but it's a bit of a drive from cheviot. the buffet is a great value. i'm a vegetarian but my wife isn't. it can be difficult to find places where we both have a lot of (tasty!) options. indian in general is usually a safe bet on that front, and the buffet here is particularly good. they always have 3-4 vegetarian mains (fairly certain most are not vegan), 3-4 non-veg mains, samosas, pakoras, rice, breads, and a small salad bar. my wife loves their lamb curry and i like everything i've tried.

one word of caution: they go really light on the spiciness. obviously understandable for the buffet - probably want to play it safe as everyone has a difference tolerance. keep it in mind if you're ordering from the menu, however. first time we came it was an anniversary dinner. i ordered a 3 expecting a decent amount of heat and i barely tasted anything. this is obviously a matter of taste and not a complaint towards the restaurant. just bear in mind that you might want to order higher on the scale if you really want it spicy.

i forgot! the proprietors are super friendly and the service is good. there are a few complaints about poor service in other reviews, but i'm glad to say our experiences have all been positive.

i had previously reviewed shaan ...but at the time was using rob's iphone 3's camera and the pictures were ugly. also, since this review we have been back again and again and again and so i figured i would review again with some prettier pictures and more visits under my belt.

poor service, good food. i've eaten at shaan several times in the past. their food is really good, and at better prices than most of the other indian food in the city.
this evening, however, i was treated to such poor customer service that it would take more than delectable chicken saag to lure me back. when i entered i was surprised by the amount of diners but was relieved to see two open tables, and several diners nearing the end of their meals, and the server who almost immediately waved from the back of the restaurant, assured me that i would get a table relatively quickly.
apparently that was unfounded. after standing in the doorway waiting to be seated for ten minutes, my boyfriend made our way to the cash register to make sure it was ok for us to take one of the larger tables because all of the booths were taken. we were treated to a curt no. and an even more rude, "those tables are too big for two." that was an answer that i would have accepted had i been greeted at the door, as i had been in the past, but since i had already been ignored this affront was not to be tolerated. we left, and ate at baba instead. at least there i know i'm going to get poor service.

favorite indian in the city. shaan is my favorite indian restaurant in a city filled with great indian food. you must go for their lunch buffet. they often have unique items, such as goat, on the buffet line, and always have multiple bread types as well as classics such as masala, saag, vindaloo, and curry. you can't beat the price and the owners could not be nicer people.

10 out of 10. best indian food in the area. i am not putting the other ones down in the tri-state but these guys do it the best. in addition to the the top notch food, dimindur (the owner, sorry if i spelled it wrong) and his crew are the best in hospitality, however, it is not that he acts nice because he knows he has too, he is just a great guy who genuinly cares about his customers and wants to make sure every dish he serves is perfect. wish more restaruants were like this! thanks shaan! no one compares to you in the indian business.

though i’ve yet to try another indian restaurant in cincinnati, it will be hard for them to compare to a wonderful experience at shaan.

best indian in town!. living in kentucky, shaan is not the most convenient restaurant, but we regularly make the drive over passing many indian restaurants along the way. the food is consistently excellent and dharminder and his wife are so warm and welcoming.

this is it!. my husband and i ate at shaan for the first time this past friday evening. i have to say, they were spot on with their preparations and taste! i was recently in india and fell in total love with their cuisine. i have been looking for an authenic indian resturant to savour those fond memories of pecurliar spices. shaan, is it!!!

we met a really nice couple and shared good conversation. they even offered to share their wine with us!

nice laid back atmosphere. great place to go after a hectic work week. ;-)

we'll definitely return soon. only downfall is, it's nowhere near colerain twp. so, it's a bit of a drive for us. but, most definitely worth it!

best of the best. the best service followed by the best food and the best prices! the gentleman that works here and waits on the customers is by far the friendliest and most polite gentleman ever. he always makes you feel so welcome and part of the family. then the food is so delicious, you just can't go wrong. i will continue to keep going back, that's for sure!
