new space and revised menu. the new space is on fort morgan road in the small plaza west strip mall next to fort morgan pizza. it is easy to overshoot when driving west on hwy. 180. look for two landmark early warning signs: mile marker 5, and cortez avenue.

this is much smaller than the previous space on hwy. 59 and more "beachy" in its new look. outdoor dining is available on a small porch. several favorite menu items of mine didn't survive the transition, and a few unique dishes i never sampled have been dropped.

three terrific items that that did survive are the fabulous gouda cheese balls, the excellent steak burgers, and the jumbo beef hot dog (alas, brown mustard is still mia!). the fries are a bit too greasy for my taste and slightly limp. another minute in the fryer and better draining would likely resolve this.

there is a new emphasis on fresh seafood, skillet meals, and upscale entrees. an extensive breakfast menu is available until 11:00 a.m. definitely worth the trip.

welcome back. was sorry that you lost your previous location. glad you are back in business. just saw your ads in the mullet this afternoon. looking forward to stopping by in the near future. if you have not eaten here folks, this is a unique eatery and you ought to give it a try.

some unique menu items. had a very helpful server named gail who really knew the menu. the fried chicken sandwich with bacon and asiago cheese was huge, and cost less than $6.00. it was so big i had to take it off the bun because it would not fit comfortably into my mouth.

was disappointed in the oversize nathan’s hot dog, which i ordered "naked" rather than "loaded." it was poorly and quickly grilled with virtually no grill marks, served lukewarm, and the only mustard available was a generic yellow. any decent brown or a good kosher deli mustard would have made a huge difference in taste, as would proper grilling to a hot temperature. some of the best dogs i ever had were in long branch, nj, at max's which has been around since the 1920s, and the windmill. they remain my benchmark.

this place is also, first and foremost, a sports bar. multiple football games were on the five or six large flat screen televisions and the sound was too loud for my taste, especially given there were only a dozen people in the place. i was there in mid-afternoon on saturday.

this place deserves a lot of respect for a unique menu. five styles of bone or boneless chicken wings with diferent sauces, fried gouda cheese balls (very popular according to gail), smoked bass dip, blackened alligator bites with aioli, a classic caesar salad, prime rib chili with fritos, and unusual side dishes for a place in this area such as fresh grilled pineapple, couscous, and smoked cole slaw. will definitely make another visit down the road. and i'll bring a jar of kosciusko mustard with me next time for my nathan's hot dog! by the way, they opened in march 2012, so maybe still working out a few kinks.

sassy bass pizza... no thanks.. this review is for sassy bass pizza. we called the # of the normal pizza place we order from when in gulf shores, and this was what we got. it was confusing at first as the name had changed. we ordered two 16" pepperoni pizzas and an order of garlic cheesesticks, they only carry pizza. so, we just ordered the pizza. the total was not given over the phone, when we picked it up it was $43!!!! the pizza was terrible to say the least. the bottom was floury, the pepperonis were burned in places, and undercooked in others. save your money and order papa johns!

amazing food, and atmosphere. definitely worth a visit and we will be back. we live in gulf shores and had friends and family staying down ft.morgan when we decided to try sassy bass rather then driving to town. this was a great decision, the only problem was management. we had a great server that was not able to serve us because the manager wouldn't leave our table. we told him we loved the food and he asked us to write a review for the restaurant, i have never had this happen before. i'm happy to report the food is the best in ft. morgan by far and service was great except for this mgr. continually coming to our table and bothering all of us. the food was so good we didn't want to be rude, but this place could be the new must visit restaurant down ft.morgan if their mgr. can just let a table eat in peace and should not be soliciting customers to write reviews. i really hope he's not there when we go back.

the service was absolutely horrendous. we had a party of 11 during slow time (2:00 pm on a monday). immediately upon sitting down we were informed she would only make 3 separate checks (we didn't even ask for separate checks). our drinks were empty the majority of the time. thankfully they sure did slap an automatic gratuity in the bill though. our waitress was tipped $56 for doing a terrible job. i don't mind tipping well for great service, but good grief. we were really excited to try this place, especially since we visit gulf shores every year, but never again. save your money and go somewhere where you cavan enjoy your dining experience rather than be upset about the poor service.

my new standard. we enjoyed our first meal at sassy bass so much that we were inspired to post.

what a great menu of flavorful food that is reasonably priced!

the service was friendly and our server was helpful with questions and details about the dishes. we enjoyed the booth seating and the lighting and wall decor was casual and pleasant for an early evening meal.

if you want to skip the details below, know this: the food was phenomenally good. it's great to find local fare that tastes chef-inspired while being reasonably priced enough to take a whole family. sassy bass will now be our "go to" standard.

we started with the gouda bites which are addictive....crisp, light, cheese melt-in-your-mouth delicious. next was the pear salad with goat cheese and wow was it wonderful. lightly roasted pears that triangulated perfectly with the field greens and goat cheese and the dressing was perfect. i can't imagine ever walking in there without ordering this salad.

also delicious was the veggie veggie flat bread pizza that i had fight my son over just to get a few pieces. it was a large serving with garlic hummus in place of a traditional sauce scattered with plum tomatoes, onions and fresh veggies.

to sample as much as we could, we ordered several sides including the couscous, which was light and seasoned perfectly, and the fried corn which was rich and a creative alternative to steamed. like everything else, we were surprised by the great seasonings of these sides. the fries are skin-on, hand cut and well-seasoned and the fried pineapple was great too, though one slice seemed a bit scant.

i too worry that the name will keep some diners away but i hope people look past it to try this delicious fare and attentive service.

if you are looking for a local restaurant with an extensive and different menu that offers popular dishes along with some truly different and flavorful items at fair prices, this is the place!

indies 408 owner. i had the pleasure of eating here on several occasions this past winter while staying at my condo down the road at the indies. the food is equivalent to what i'd expect in new orleans or where i live on the mississippi gulf coast; fresh, deliciously spicey and full of unique flavors. the owner and staff are very friendly and are there to please.
this is the most friendly atmosphere and best food that i have had on the alabama coast, ever, double thumbs up!!

we saw their sign about pizza delivery when we pulled into the subdivision we were renting in. we decided to have a pizza delivered on our last night, but it took 1 hour and 50 minutes for it to arrive. the sign notes they only deliver within 5 miles of their shop, and we were 2.2 miles away. obviously it took a little longer than the 45 minutes to 1 hour time they quoted on the phone (one of the times i called to inquire about our missing pizza, i was informed they only have 1 driver). the pizza was mediocre.... the center was mushy, the edges were ok. 1 large pepperoni, 1 large cheese pizza, and 1 large order of bread sticks was $55 + $5 delivery charge.

casual spot, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. small menu, but nice variety. enjoyed our meal here and will be back. good shrimp, fresh fries, cole slaw and hush puppies. the gouda bites were tasty with their red pepper sauce and the chocolate cake was fantastic. food was anything but bland as several reviewers penned. this is not fine dining. it is beach casual with most foods fried. you can go fancy with a $25.00 entree or order a burger.

back for breakfast this morning. pancakes were very tasty, the eggs were fresh and a perfect over easy. the skirt steak was mighty tasty too. very friendly waitress (deb).

abby ridley davis and i went to dinner with sharon etter weber and bob weber at sassy bass in fort morgan after a wonderful day of fishing. the first thing i learned was that even on a slow night there is no place to park a car and boat. i will not be doing that again. the menu is fish camp style with upscale pricing. it is very similar to mikee's fare but about $6 per plate higher, and does not include a salad. there was no bread, or crackers and butter which we expected at these prices. they also do not have baked potatoes. the food was overall good. comments about each entree are below the picture on fort morgan supper club facebook site. we especially liked the homemade french fries rather than frozen. we were disappointed in the bushwhackers, which are made with ice cream mix instead of with real premium ice cream, and as a result are thin and not as tasty. they are convenient to those on the 18 mile stretch from gulf shores to fort morgan.

the best food on the alabama gulf coast. and the best beer. we have visited sassy bass on several occasions and each visit has been impressive. they seem to know several things that other gulf coast eateries don't. for example, they know that many people don't care for watery big brewery beers and have a variety of local craft beers on tap. they know that a crab cake should be made mostly of crab meat and not of filler, and that the best way to cook tuna is to barely cook it. the sliced prime rib open faced sandwich is just amazing. i would give it a 5 except that the atmosphere can be a bit rowdy. i would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good meal, especially if they are looking for a good beer to accompany it.

hidden gem, off the beaten path. about the most laid back place you're gonna find. for us it's worth the drive from the peninsula over to 180 to eat at the bass. i have never liked grits and the fishin' grits is my hands down favorite here! the shrimpin' grits are tops as well. just the other day i tried the snapper grill, and it was as good a fish plate as i've ever had. it was a little warm the other day, as there is an addition going in and with the ongoing work it does allow more warm air in than usual, the staff had brought in some large fans so it wasn't noticeably uncomfortable, you could just tell it was warmer than usual. the addition is going to be nice, and is much needed space. doesn't appear that it will be long before that is finished. don't let that scare you away, it's we worth the trip!
