new space and revised menu. the new space is on fort morgan road in the small plaza west strip mall next to fort morgan pizza. it is easy to overshoot when driving west on hwy. 180. look for two landmark early warning signs: mile marker 5, and cortez avenue.

this is much smaller than the previous space on hwy. 59 and more "beachy" in its new look. outdoor dining is available on a small porch. several favoritemenuitems of mine didn't survive the transition, and a few unique dishes i never sampled have been dropped.

three terrific items that that did survive are the fabulous gouda cheese balls, the excellent steak burgers, and the jumbo beef hot dog (alas, brown mustard is still mia!). the fries are a bit too greasy for my taste and slightly limp. another minute in the fryer and better draining would likely resolve this.

there is a new emphasis on fresh seafood, skillet meals, and upscale entrees. an extensive breakfastmenuis available until 11:00 a.m. definitely worth the trip.

welcome back. was sorry that you lost your previous location. glad you are back in business. just saw your ads in the mullet this afternoon. looking forward to stopping by in the near future. if you have not eaten here folks, this is a unique eatery and you ought to give it a try.

some uniquemenuitems. had a very helpful server named gail who really knew the menu. the fried chicken sandwich with bacon and asiago cheese was huge, and cost less than $6.00. it was so big i had to take it off the bun because it would not fit comfortably into my mouth.

was disappointed in the oversize nathan’s hot dog, which i ordered "naked" rather than "loaded." it was poorly and quickly grilled with virtually no grill marks, served lukewarm, and the only mustard available was a generic yellow. any decent brown or a good kosher deli mustard would have made a huge difference in taste, as would proper grilling to a hot temperature. some of the best dogs i ever had were in long branch, nj, at max's which has been around since the 1920s, and the windmill. they remain my benchmark.

this place is also, first and foremost, a sports bar. multiple football games were on the five or six large flat screen televisions and the sound was too loud for my taste, especially given there were only a dozen people in the place. i was there in mid-afternoon on saturday.

this place deserves a lot of respect for a unique menu. five styles of bone or boneless chicken wings with diferent sauces, fried gouda cheese balls (very popular according to gail), smoked bass dip, blackened alligator bites with aioli, a classic caesar salad, prime rib chili with fritos, and unusual side dishes for a place in this area such as fresh grilled pineapple, couscous, and smoked cole slaw. will definitely make another visit down the road. and i'll bring a jar of kosciusko mustard with me next time for my nathan's hot dog! by the way, they opened in march 2012, so maybe still working out a few kinks.

my new standard. we enjoyed our first meal at sassy bass so much that we were inspired to post.

what a greatmenuof flavorful food that is reasonably priced!

the service was friendly and our server was helpful with questions and details about the dishes. we enjoyed the booth seating and the lighting and wall decor was casual and pleasant for an early evening meal.

if you want to skip the details below, know this: the food was phenomenally good. it's great to find local fare that tastes chef-inspired while being reasonably priced enough to take a whole family. sassy bass will now be our "go to" standard.

we started with the gouda bites which are addictive....crisp, light, cheese melt-in-your-mouth delicious. next was the pear salad with goat cheese and wow was it wonderful. lightly roasted pears that triangulated perfectly with the field greens and goat cheese and the dressing was perfect. i can't imagine ever walking in there without ordering this salad.

also delicious was the veggie veggie flat bread pizza that i had fight my son over just to get a few pieces. it was a large serving with garlic hummus in place of a traditional sauce scattered with plum tomatoes, onions and fresh veggies.

to sample as much as we could, we ordered several sides including the couscous, which was light and seasoned perfectly, and the fried corn which was rich and a creative alternative to steamed. like everything else, we were surprised by the great seasonings of these sides. the fries are skin-on, hand cut and well-seasoned and the fried pineapple was great too, though one slice seemed a bit scant.

i too worry that the name will keep some diners away but i hope people look past it to try this delicious fare and attentive service.

if you are looking for a local restaurant with an extensive and differentmenuthat offers popular dishes along with some truly different and flavorful items at fair prices, this is the place!

abby ridley davis and i went to dinner with sharon etter weber and bob weber at sassy bass in fort morgan after a wonderful day of fishing. the first thing i learned was that even on a slow night there is no place to park a car and boat. i will not be doing that again. themenuis fish camp style with upscale pricing. it is very similar to mikee's fare but about $6 per plate higher, and does not include a salad. there was no bread, or crackers and butter which we expected at these prices. they also do not have baked potatoes. the food was overall good. comments about each entree are below the picture on fort morgan supper club facebook site. we especially liked the homemade french fries rather than frozen. we were disappointed in the bushwhackers, which are made with ice cream mix instead of with real premium ice cream, and as a result are thin and not as tasty. they are convenient to those on the 18 mile stretch from gulf shores to fort morgan.

sticker shock. the food was good. i'm having heart attack from the sticker shock!!!
i guess we didn't quite understand themenucorrectly when it came to the price on salad. don't get me wrong, but when i get a bill that is $43 for 2 cups of soup, 2 salads (1 one with a small amount of chicken and 1 with 5 shrimp) and 2 glasses of water... i almost choked on the
lettuce in my mouth. themenudoes not really indicate that price for chicken salad or shrimp salad is in addition to a dinner salad. it looks as if that is the price listed. i'm disappointed that i dropped $50 with tip for lunch and walked away still hungry.
