i'm pleased that i made it to rockpool. the bar is a swish, if slightly expensive, place for lunch. but it pays to treat yourself every once in a while.

dinner date. service - 10/10
food - 8/10, great food but nothing special
drinks - 9/10, extensive menu with non-alcoholic options
ambiance - 8/10, tables were too close and no privacy (had to hear about how the woman on the adjacent table watched shahs of sunset..)

global hq it is. superb dining room, a menu where you want everything you read. you can't beat the rib eye off the grill here (is there a better steak in sydney cbd?). just don't look at the prices. service this time a bit off the mark.

once it arrived and i had taken my first bite i was easily proven wrong because the patty was top quality with great flavours and a soft texture, overall one of the best burgers i have had. the only downside of the burger is that it falls apart quite easily and it was a little difficult to e

entering into one of the most beautiful art deco buildings in australia, rockpool bar & grill sure does transform a typical lunch hour into something from another world or era. today i met up with a friend who worked in the building, and we decided to visit the bar section to try the david blackmore's wagyu burger. we got there just after 1pm so the bar was full already, but they promptly seated us down within a few minutes.   the bar section   we decided to split the burger so we can try the pumpkin and bean empanadas ($10 for 4) - they were surprisingly really good! crispy on the outside with a slight chewy texture in the pastry, and filled generously with plenty of pumpkin and whole beans.  david blackmore's full blood wagyu hamburger with bacon, gruyere cheese and zuni pickle ($24) - the waitress kindly offered to cut the burger in half for us when we said we were sharing, and it was a good thing she did as otherwise i may have "accidentally" eaten the whole thing! although we spec

i honestly wasn’t sure what i was expecting tbh. i was really looking forward to trying this place but literally everything that came out was a disappointment. v overrated and v basic. i make better mac and cheese than that, i make better pasta i make better scallops and i’m not even a good cook. will i come back? prob not.

tuna tartare: 9.5/10 - one of the best, if not the best tartare we’ve ever had. literally melts in your mouth! if you’re a fan of eggplant too, then you’ll definitely love this dish because the eggplant just adds another bonus to the flavours and textures of the dish. (only reason it didn’t get a 10 is portion size)

denver: 8/10 - i’m not usually a steak fan, but i was very impressed with this cut! definitely the best piece of steak i’ve ever had. so tender, juicy, non chewy whatsoever (which is usually what i experience with every steak i’ve had). so if you’re unsure of what to order & you’re also not a massive steak/meat fan, try the denver.

mac & cheese: 8/10 - i’m also usually not a mac & cheese fan but this was actually impressive. not too cheesy, or thick or sickening (which i know is what most mac & cheese fans look for in the dish, but not me sorry). i loved the saltiness from the dish which a lot of places lack. you definitely need that saltiness to cut from the richness of the cheese.

rib eye: 6/10 - not a fan. before coming to this restaurant, i did hours & hours of research and reading of reviews, and the most surprising thing i learnt is that most people love the rib eye cut. it’s one of the most popular cuts to be ordered here. but i was pretty disappointed. not sure if it was the fact that our steak was a little undercooked, we asked for medium rare and it came out pretty much rare. or maybe it’s just not our preference in steak. it was super chewy, way too textured, too fatty (& i’m an advocate for fat, but this fat was chewy as hell).

passionfruit pavlova: 6.5/10 - too sweet. texture was great though, super fluffy, super light but the sweetness just made it really heavy to eat. also, we over ordered so it didn’t help that we were going to blow up any second 😅
if you’re wanting to order a dessert, please try their cupcake dessert!!! tbh i don’t know what it’s called but we got a free cupcake because it was my partner’s birthday but i asked the lady and she said they serve it. it was the best cupcake we’ve ever had wow!!

last thing to add: we ordered their fries/chips on the side and that was tasty too, crispy thick cut chips.

i really enjoyed the steak at rockpool! they definitely have some premium cuts of meat and a great wine selection. it is a bit on the pricier end so that would be the only downside, however it’s a great place to splurge for a special occasion!

i use to love the food here but the portion sizes have dropped significantly. what was once a glorious normal sized wagyu burger is now a baby entree sized burger. i also noticed the wagyu burger was rather dry and lacklustre..now the goats cheese tortellini while incredible tasty was similar an entree sized dish for $39. probably wouldn’t go back.

overall an amazing experience. atmosphere was a delight in our usual balcony seat. staff also excellent.

we started with the tuna tartare and woodfire grilled baby octopus. both these were rich in flavour and perfect on the palate. the fried calamari was nice, however, was a bit dry and lacked a sufficient condiment.

for main, we had the rump steak and goat cheese tortellini with pumpkin & sweet potato and mixed greens as sides.
the rump was cooked to perfection and could not have gone down better. we were quite disappointed however in the portion and price of what we thought was a main pasta. 6 tortellinis and 2 prawns for $39. need i say more?

lastly, the warm rhubard pudding with vanilla sauce was so good, we forgot to take a photo of it.

overall, still one of our favourite places to go to.

so i ordered the prawn and it’s under cooked so i complaint that it’s raw i spilt it out after putting in my mouth, the waiter did not apologize and say well the way we cook it suppose to be just right so maybe you think it’s raw, i should have took a photo to show how raw it is but she replace me with this burnt prawn, it’s fine dining i am not suppose to see food cooked like this. through out the whole time no one ask us if our food is ok or not. is it because they are under staff the manager have to work in the kitchen too???? it was my birthday lunch so thank you rockpool for ruining my day !!!!
