definately a must do for any sydney sider. wow was my reaction walking into the rockpoolbar& grill, situated in a beautifully designed art-deco building you cant help but feel your eating in the most lavish restaurant in gotham or the bank in harry potter it truly is something else.
now im not lying when i say i had the best steak of my life here, im talking eyes closed, moaning the whole "shibang" and it wasn't even the most expensive one. i started with the king prawns which were delish and ended with the mouse which once again was outrageously good.
the service complemented the food and building, the waiters were colour coded so u picked up pretty fast who was good for what, and they came in at the perfect moments, never interupting and always friendly. i wasnt waiting around or trying to get anyones attention the team was on the ball.
ive fined dined in a few establishments around town "quay" being one of them but i have to say rockpoolbarand grill takes the cake.

the winner of sydney's recent burger war's is a reminder of how good the rockpoolbar& grill burger really is. topping fierce competition from lotus, becasse & four in hand to name a few, it reaffirmed it's deserving position at the top of the burger chain (check out the next sydney timeout for a full run down of the results). the david blackmore's full blood wagyu hamburger is the standout, it's damn tasty and juicy. it's topped with scheulz bacon and perfectly melted gruyere cheese. one of my favourite ingredients are the zuni pickle's, which have just the right amount of zing to balance out the other ingredients. the brioche bun is warm, soft, sweet and the non-soggy base prevents the contents from spilling all over the place. the simple sides of crispy lettuce & tomato allow for customisation. it's only available at thebar- which is the ideal lunch option if your around the cbd. smaller, but not to be outdone are it's little brother, which are just as satisfying, particularly as

bottom line: i've never been to the restaurant, but i'm not sure i ever will knowing you can get the best burger in sydney straight from the bar. last night mckay and i went down to the opera house to check out vivid sydney - a pretty awesome light show taking place for a short while. i recommend it to anyone if you are in the area for the next week or so - it's beautiful. after the show we decided, with no reservations made, to try to check out rockpoolbar& grill. typically in san francisco, even getting a seat at thebarfor dinner at a popular restaurant can be tough, so we came prepared to wait, but were happily surprised that we were immediately seated at a table in thebararea. we'd heard that rockpool's claim to fame was the wagyu burger, and sure enough - the tables on either side of us had ordered two wagyu burgers and chips. we followed suit and were not disappointed. i couldn't put my finger on what exactly made this burger so amazing. the meat was perfectly cooked and fl

after a little whine to the boyfriend about never going out to dine at anywhere new, he surprised me with a "just because" dinner at rockpoolbar& grill. pushing through a pair of strong glass doors, enter into a gorgeous room with a sky high ceiling, dim lights, marble and a beautiful wine glass centerpiece. the dining room is a mixed bag, filled with couples on dates, business men doing final deals and seated next to us, an old married couple on their date night. charcoal roast squid and pork belly the menu is extensive, and my eyes are barely keep up as they zip through left right and centre; with offerings from the cold bar, salads, hot entrees, pasta and meats from the grill. and every day, there are slight alterations to the menu to keep up with the produce in season, so the our shared entree is sometimes on and off their menu. wood fired lamb cutlets and chops with mint jelly free range chicken with tuscan white bean, tomato and bread salad for some strange reason,

worth the splurge!. three female diners celebrated combined birthdays with a dinner here last night. we were very happy with our choice.service, wine and food combined to make the evening a resounding success! after cocktails at spice temple where thebarwas less crowded than rockpool bar, we enjoyed our meal in the restrained elegance of the art deco dining room.
we were feeling in the mood for a hearty traditional meal rather than any experimentation. loved the fillet steak cooked to perfection with the delicious bernaise sauce, crispy baked potatoes and the winter greens. we took the advice of the sommelier and enjoyed a very pleasant french red at $60 a bottle.
always good to feel that the evening came up to expectations!

memorable anniversary. when my partner and i booked at rock poolbar& grill for our anniversary we didn't expect to get probably one of the best tables in the restaurant. i ordered a steak as so did my partner and it was cooked to perfection. everything about our experience was amazing, including the service, ambience food and wine.

nice evening in a beautiful setting. it's amazing to see how far rockpool has come since opening thisbarand grill years ago. service doesn't seem as refined as it used to be. which is a shame as i always felt sharp service was the basis of their reputation. they are selective in acknowledging special occasions as they acknowledged the birthday next to us but not for our table although they even acknowledged it at reconfirmation. its hard to justify the meal as at bridgeroom the food is more exciting and the service is far better, for less you can have an exciting meal at lumi or a better steak at firedoor. it was a nice night with nothing to wow about the day after. nothing bad at all but if you have been here numerous times in the past, there is a little pain in your heart as you realise that service execution is no longer a focal point of one of our biggest brands in upscale dining.

for our final saturday night in sydney, ojan and i decided to finally re-visit rockpoolbar& grill. we went the first time during our first visit to sydney, and i have a vague memory of sitting in thebareating a burger, but i don't recall much else. it clearly didn't leave an impression. so why return? well, rockpoolbar& grill is one of chef neil perry's places in sydney, and i rather adore his food, even when it is served at the qantas first class lounge in the airport. neil perry's "flagship" establishment is rockpool, where only a 4 course $150 or 8 course $185 menu are served. the place sounds fantastic, has been three hats by the good food guide for years, but, we weren't up for such an extended (and pricey) meal.

rockpoolbar& grill is famous for its monolithic and marbled art deco restaurant dining room, and its wagyu hamburger in the bar. having dined previously in the restaurant without the food making an indelible impression, we were keen to taste what is universally regarded as sydney's premiere hamburger. food blog after food blog have sung its praises, and its re

entering into one of the most beautiful art deco buildings in australia, rockpoolbar& grill sure does transform a typical lunch hour into something from another world or era. today i met up with a friend who worked in the building, and we decided to visit thebarsection to try the david blackmore's wagyu burger. we got there just after 1pm so thebarwas full already, but they promptly seated us down within a few minutes.   thebarsection   we decided to split the burger so we can try the pumpkin and bean empanadas ($10 for 4) - they were surprisingly really good! crispy on the outside with a slight chewy texture in the pastry, and filled generously with plenty of pumpkin and whole beans.  david blackmore's full blood wagyu hamburger with bacon, gruyere cheese and zuni pickle ($24) - the waitress kindly offered to cut the burger in half for us when we said we were sharing, and it was a good thing she did as otherwise i may have "accidentally" eaten the whole thing! although we spec

i hadn’t been to rockpoolbar& grill for a few years. i think it was 2016. and i am glad i returned today. the service is impeccable and the food was as delicious as i had remembered. rather than a steak i chose the king george whiting (pictured) which was seasoned and cooked to perfection. the other highlight for me was the custard & date tart (pictured). just luscious.

it’s definitely one of my favourite buildings - an art deco lovers paradise and i will definitely not be waiting 3 years to return again. #rockpoolbarandgrill
