not gluten friendly. since ramsi's is listed as gluten friendly on severallouisvillesites i feel the need to add this review. ramsi's does have a gf designation on their menu and you can order from quite a wide variety of gf items, that is where the gluten friendly ends.

i believe they are not at all careful in their preparation of gf foods. i gave them a try twice thinking maybe the first time was just a fluke. both times i became grossly ill after eating there choosing a gf item both times and mentioning to the server that i have celiac.

the rest of my family really enjoys ramsi's as for me i will no longer be going there. if you want good local and safe gf food go to northend cafe and save yourself from becoming ill.

ramsi’s cafe on the world was one of the restaurants i found and requested we visit specifically when my family took a trip tolouisvilleearlier this year (january to be exact, i’m just a touch behind on sharing my restaurant reviews 😉 ). the website for ramis’s cafe describes its cuisine as “global comfort food.”

without a doubt, one of the best cities in the u.s. for dining out is louisville, kentucky. when i say this to folks who haven’t visited louisville, i’m met with a doubtful look.  if you’ve been there, you know there’s more to this city than bourbon. not that the bourbon is bad, look at this bourbon list at ramsi’s: but the food in louisville, good grief!  it rivals larger cities in diversity, the chefs are insanely skilled (i went to a bar that had a chef in the kitchen, not a cook but a full-fledged, classically trained chef), and the food is among the best i’ve had anywhere. louisvillewould be on my top five list of cities to visit on a food-vacay. ramsi’s cafe on the world is often the first restaurant recommendation i receive when asking about eating vegetarian in louisville.  not that there is a shortage of places to eat veg, but ramsi’s seems well known.  fear not carnivores, a friend whose recommendations i trust inlouisvillesays she got the best hamburger she has had ever

underwhelming. a number of small(er) problems at ramsi's made for an unfavorable experience overall. first, they under-estimated how long it would take us to be seated (we waited for almost an hour and a half, and were told it would be 45 minutes). secondly, the food wasn't that great. some dishes were bland, others a strange mix. flavors have to balance-- fusion for fusion's sake isn't enough. on the bright side, the food came out very quickly. however, we waited another 5-10 minutes and had to ask two people for silverware. this silverware was burning hot. lastly, the dining area was very loud. overall, i wouldn't return. there are many other restaurants inlouisvillewith better food, better prices, and better service.

awful experience. my husband love ethnic food and being new tolouisvillethought ramsi's cafe sounded perfect. we arrived around 7:30 on a sat. evening and were seated quickly. we ordered drinks and enjoyed a few minutes of visiting and perusing the menu. thirty minutes later the waiter came over to take our orders. he was very attentive to the large party next to us. there was a new smaller menu given to us along with the extensive larger menu. i inquired about the bison (on the smaller menu) and he admitted that he didn't know anything about the new smaller menu. i ordered the spinach salad and my husband order the pink lentil soup. then i ordered the the bison and asked about non-starchy veggie choices. he assured me that they had a stir-fry mix that was healthy. so i ordered that. my husband ordered fish with harissa sauce. my husband inquired about whether the sauce had cheese or cream in the sauce, as he has health restrictions on eating high fat foods. the waiter assured him that there was a tiny amount of cheese on the top of the fish. so my husband ordered the fish with the harissa sauce. thirty minutes later the waiter came over and said they didn't have the bison so i switched to the salmon. the large party next to us finished dinner and left. another large party was seated and again the waiter was super attentive to them. their food arrived quickly while we sat waiting for our dinners. so we ordered another bottle of wine. the waiter brought the new bottle over with two fresh glasses. as he opened the new bottle, we said we would use our original glasses. but instead of letting us taste the wine from the new bottle first, he plunges ahead and pours the new wine in with the remaining wine in our glasses. he moved so quickly we didn't have time to react. thirty more minutes elapsed and a women delivered our food. my dinner was a piece of salmon with nothing else on the plate, no garnish, no veggies, nothing. my husband's dinner was swimming in cheese sauce including the side of rice. we told him this wasn't what we ordered and asked for a manager. five minutes elapsed and no one showed up. i got up and found a manager and asked him to come to our table to explain the evening's disaster. we told them we'd pay for our wine and were leaving. the manager did give us a gift card for a future visit but we won't be returning. a patron seated next to us leaned over and mentioned that they had this waiter on a previous visit and he was a disaster then as well.

a fav!. i was visitinglouisvillefor a few weeks and was taken here. wow, i was blown away by the food; so much that we had to go back a second time! grilled thick bread with goat cheese and garlic in oil for appetizer, eggplant parmesan for an entree (spaghetti on the side), delicious smartini for a drink, and carrot cake for dessert. it was all soooo good. their menu is excellent. this place is a bit expensive but i loved it and wish we had a ramsi's back where i live. highly recommended!

disappointed!!!. oh my gosh! ramsi's is one of my favoritelouisvillespots and the place i always take out of town guests. i have never ordered something i didn't like!
however, ramsi's recently changed their menu. what an awful decision! i ordered the z-man and gone were any veggies, gone were the tiny, tender steaks and what was left was potatoes that were undercooked, steak cooked well, but not as tender as it used to be, and a side dish of spinch alfredo to smother the crappy steak and potatoes. whaaaat? is this an o'charley's?!? who smothers a steak in alfredo? we finished with a banana trifle, formerly made by a women who kept her recipe top secret. it used to be spiced wonderfully, with a real middle eastern flavor. the "cake" of the trifle i have never been able to figure out, but it was amazing. tonight i simply got my southern's grandma's jello brand banana pudding with vanilla wafers. i love my grandma, but that is not what i was wanting, expecting, or willing to pay for.
wwwwhhhhyyyyy have you done this to me ramsi's?!?! please change back!!!!
p.s. i voiced my complaints to the very kind bartender. service is great as always!! management is clearly the problem here!

good vegetarian options. i've been here several times, and each time i am pleased with the experience. ramsi's is one of the few great places inlouisvillethat serves a variety of vegetarian dishes and stays open late, too. i like coming here for a drink, an appetizer of their thinly sliced onion rings, and a sandwich served with potatoes.

an oasis in the desert. no offense to locals, but i have never foundlouisvilleto be very charming or memorable. ramsi's may have just changed my mind. a very diverse menu led my party of three to struggle deciding what to order. none of us were disappointed, and in fact we jeered some colleagues who had to leave town early b/c they missed this wonderful meal. the menu has something for everyone, and the eccentric decor fits perfectly.

many more hits than misses. ramsi's has been a favorite of mine for years. it was where i took my wife for our first date and also where we happened to be when we decided to look into purchasing a house that was for sale that we happened upon by accident several hours before while giving her visiting parents a driving tour of some of our favoritelouisvilleneighborhoods.

while it's had some hiccups over the last few years (they discontinued one of my favorite dishes, the pork port & pears, and i've had a couple meals that weren't stellar), on the whole, i'm generally immensely satisfied with my experience. they have a large variety of food (perhaps too large a selection, some may argue) and they've maintained very reasonable prices over the years. it's a great place to go with a group who likes something other than standard american fare and offers enough variety to cater to a lot of different tastes. every visit necessitates the order of the calamari appetizer with its great sweet and sour sauce.

bring back the pork, port and pears!

old faithful.. no one doesn't like ramsi's. if you're fromlouisvilleit's kind of a staple for that area of town. the menu is huge so there is something for everyone. service is good, indoor or outdoor eating, weekend nights there is live entertainment and they're open late. from fresh salads to homemade soups, to a huge variety of steamy, spicy, entrees. there are amazing appetizers like the brie served hot and encrusted in nuts and drizzled in honey, a goat cheese and roasted garlic plate with baguette slices, and a queso that'll knock your socks off... you can't beat it.
