stand out for ambiance, quality of food and prompt service!

went in for a tasting first which was held in a cute intimate room which boasted with history and wall to wall filled wine racks.

the dining area is highly welcoming with the back drop of vineyards in the valley overlooked by the decked area! both great for summer and winter dining!

the grilled king prawns were an absolute stand out and had me wanting more! the flavors were fresh and the dish had a hint of smoked flavor through out. accompanied by a slightly spicy sauce which cut the complex flavors, the dish also had some lime on the side if you wanted to add a bit of zest! 🦐

the crab pasta was delicious and the flavors were worked back so that the mixture of the crab and seasoning could work their magic along side sublime linguini. cooked to perfection al dentè i can't fault the dish 🦀🍝

side note: accommodation here was fantastic and made for a relaxing couple of days by the fire overlooking the vineyards 🍷

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

we stopped by here for lunch (on a monday) to find the restaurant full and he lack of staff noticeable. he good was really tasty - corn fritters, sashimi and eggplant dishes are all must-tries. pity that the service didn't match the food. i had to ask for plates so we could eat when the food came out, my mother got told that the waiter was 'busy at the moment' when she asked for salt and pepper and then had the pepper snatched off the table before she had a chance to use it. an adding to the order for another round of starters caused some consternation. i understand that service can busy and i'm not the type of customer who gives attitude, so this experience makes me think again about going back. the food is great but service really needs a look to ensure that it meets that standard.

one of my favourites. delicious food, beautiful wine and great atmosphere! can't wait to have a picnic by the lake! lamb was sensational with crispy kale chips and matched well with the roasted potatoes! all washed down with even keel pinot noir. i love how the wines aren't overly pricey and are very reasonable for top notch wines.

overall a fun experience at polperro. we came here on a hens day and opted to do a picnic in the field. the food in our picnic baskets was delicious - a shoutout to their terrine. wow! reminded me of the jars of handmade pork and duck terrines you can find at a farmers market in arles (france). the salmon and potato salad was simple but delightfully fresh! the only criticism is that one staff told us that we could take away the leftover we couldn't finish, so we made an effort in packing up but all our efforts and food went to waste :-(

pole position. polperro is a charming fishing village in cornwall and an equally picturesque winery on the mornington peninsula. the latter is a lot easier to get to and now boasts accommodation as well as a restaurant, cellar door (polperro & even keel labels) & gorgeous grounds with the option of catered picnics in romantic wicker baskets.

i was the fortunate guest of a friend with a generous family. they had given her a big voucher to spend at polperro to celebrate a big birthday. with a 6pm booking at dinner, we made our way to polperro for a lazy afternoon tasting before 5pm, followed by casual drinks on the terrace overlooking the gum trees, vineyard and dam. the food is really good - the charcuterie plate, kingfish ceviche & cheese plate were all wonderful. the desserts were less interesting to me but my friend enjoyed hers - a deconstructed combination of flavours including white chocolate, matcha & cocoa nibs. the wine list traverses more than just the estate's own bottles, with an excellent range reasonably priced.

service was more patchy - possibly due to the relatively young floor staff and large numbers of guests. we spent the pleasurable hour between 5pm & 6pm looking over the stunning scenery having ordered a bottle of even keel sparkling. but each time we were asked for more drinks, and indicated we had a bottle on the go, the staff walked off rather than find said bottle and refill our glasses. after the third time, we explicit asked for more wine to be poured, which seems an unnecessary requirement as a diner.

at dinner, we almost received another table's meals, and one dish we ordered was mistaken for another, but replaced quickly. we had plenty to eat so missing out on bread at the start of the meal wasn't a major issue but was another lapse. in a more memorable experience, l loved the friendly and energetic winery dog!

what a glorious sunday afternoon spent at red hill enjoying a terrific meal at polperro. we lunched al fresco on the terrace on a warm sunny day. the view across the vineyard to the lush verdant hills was just beautiful. we started with some light tasmanian bubbly to toast this glorious afternoon. the menu offered an interesting fusion of flavours with nods to asian & mediterranean cuisines... my two dining companions & i shared three entrees...white anchovies on a light crisp-bread with herbs & delicate tomato chilli jam, plump, juicy prawn gyoza and kingfish sashimi with mango & gazpacho. all beautifully flavoured & balanced. for main i had the crab spaghetti with chilli, herbs & toasted breadcrumbs. the pasta was perfectly al dente, quite a good amount of crabmeat, just the right amount of chilli flakes to give it a kick & the crumbs a nice crunch. the only quibble was probably a little too oily for my liking. we all had the same dessert of coffee cream with salted chocolate soil, cocoa nibs & almond ice cream. a melange of all my favourite flavours - not too rich or too light. our host (ex vue de monde) was charming with the right of amiability with out being intrusive. he was spot on with his wine recommendations and ensured our meal was an enjoyable experience. after the meal a walk around the grounds and a lay down under a tree on one of the deck chairs dotted around is a must.
a great experience all round!

positives
great views
reasonable quality food

negatives
terrible service....kept emphasizing we had to be out by 2. not an issue, as we accepted those terms on booking the table. we had dessert outside. worst dessert i have had in years. strawberries pre sliced with some meringue. no imagination and as bland as he'll.
had to ask for waiter to refill wine glass, so he proceeded to pour over half a bottle into 2 glasses!!!

so many better options in this area. for $150/head i expect half decent and competent service.

as the greeks say, the overall experience was skata!

cannot recommend this place enough.  i went with my partner for lunch on nye.

i had the sashimi for entree, we then shared the lamb share plate with the potatoes and green salad.  so, so fresh (some grown onsite) & cooked to perfection.  we had the strawberry & the seasonal peach dessert which were well balanced, not overly sweet & very light.

cannot fault this place at all.  always recommend it to family & friends who love it time & time again.

i can't wait to go back.

came to polperro with a group of friends for australia day and had a great day. such a beautiful estate with gorgeous decor and of course, views. firstly we started in the dining area where we ordered food to share (images below) the lamb was by far the best. cooked to perfection. the potatoes nice and crispy and the seafood soup dish was also a winner. we had a pilot gris with our meal and it was fantastic wine. after dinner we followed through to the garden where there was wine tasting and music. this wouldn't happen regularly as it was not event for the day but a truly beautiful venue and was able to appreciate it.

had dinner here recently, 4 adults and 4 kids so admittedly not the ideal group for a night out at a fancy winery/bistro. nevertheless, we had a great night. setting is gorgeous with beautiful view from inside and out over the vineyards. they also have some lounge chairs in the outdoor garden area to relax and have a drink. food and drinks were excellent and the kids meal was good too. the pork belly and the sirloin steak were highlights. a bit of a wait between entree and main with the restaurant close to full, however service was impeccable.

looked like a nice place but too busy for its own good. after being assured by the car park attendant (what winery/bistro has one of those?) that we could get in for a tasting, we most certainly couldn't get in as it was way too crowded. so, wasted 15 minutes or so here. even though i've never heard of the place, it seems too busy. lesson: don't bother and definitely don't take advice from the car parking guy.

what a beautiful location, with food, service and ambience to boot. the selection of sharing mains is a fantastic way to enjoy a variety of options with a group of friends. in our case, it was just two of us for dinner, so one sharing main (lamb shoulder) with a cous cous, quinoa and beetroot salad was a perfect balance. even the coffee was excellent.

popped in here after seeing it on my wine map of red hill and i wasn't disappointed. it was a coldish day and the fire was lit and blankets ready to keep us warm.
the wine was perfect and the service was impeccable. after chatting to the waiter about wines, he steered us into the direction of what we might enjoy and he was spot on.

i look forward to trying out the accommodation one day!

really disappointed with our saturday night visit to polperro. on arrival, i asked the matradee if it would be possible to organise a candle for my partner, as we were having a special 30th birthday dinner with his family. this was a special dinner for us, and we had traveled from melbourne for the weekend. i was informed this would be fine, described what he was wearing to point him out, even ordered the desert in advance.time came for the desert, camera was ready, and no candle. desert was just put down on the table.
during the meal, our sides (salad and potatoes) didn't arrive. we mentioned this to the waitress a fair way into our mains, and still about 20 minutes after finishing our mains, she had bought no sides. we waited so long that the salads were cancelled and we ate the potatoes on their own.
have had a nice experience here before, however being a special occasion this was a real let down. when you are paying for an expensive dinner for 7 guests, the least you expect is decent service and a waitress who is on the ball.
