great place to visit on a trip to the red hill area. the crackling wood fire kept the whole restaurant warm on a cold winter's day. 2 friends and i had the tour menu. plates were presented nicely and flavours were good. one star down for not being able to count, there were 3 of us but we were given 2 servings of popcorn, 2 servings of fish and 4 lamb cutlets. another star lost due to inattentive staff, we had bones and bare skewers on our plates, instead of clearing the table first, staff were eager to put more plates of food on our already packed table. we were not asked if we wanted any more drinks after we had finished our first drinks, and our glasses of tap water were never refilled during our 2 hour sitting.

love sitting on teh lawn at polperro. they have a pop-up bar serving grown-up food (helllooooo, freshly shucked oysters!) and are dog friendly (big win). friendly service on top (they went out of their way to try and secure a table for my group). wine room is a bit small and often has a wait to get in...

my entire experience ar polperro was wonderful. the food was delicious and the service was lovely, not to mention the beautiful view of the winery itself. i highly recommend the kanagroo tartare entrée, the barramundi main and for dessert, the fennel seed cake.
i am keen to come back to try out their picnic menu where you are given a pinic blanket, a basket of food and the opportunity to explore the grounds of the winery yourself.

have eaten here for lunch and dinner and i just love the styling and ambience at this chic bistro. new chef means new choices on the menu, all delicious but suggest you go for early dinner booking if you want to make sure you don’t miss out on the scrumptious sounding pop corn snack or the fennel pollen cake for dessert both of which were out for 8.30pm booking. we were lucky though that we managed to sneak in some cake the next day after a wine tasting. perfect for romantic couple date night and also a small dining group. recommend sharing few entrees but definitely get your own main, too yummy (and pretty) to share. ps the duck is the most instagramable of the main dishes and pairs perfectly with the polperro pinot hehe

had the best wine tasting here in a small room inside the venue by a great and knowledgeable dutch guy. we loved the venue as it was very relaxing and you could easily spend a couple hours here drinking the beautiful wines and having a cheese platter. can’t wait to come back already !

very beautiful view to start with. don’t be fooled by the pictures, all menu changed. all dishes looks fabulously dressed up however not good enough for the price. it feel like trying to change to top notch fine dining but failed at the basic food and service.

1. extremely under staffed and really not attentive.

we went there on friday lunch, almost 14tables inside and outside, there were only 3 waiting staff. not only they busy also they are not attentive. some would look on the floor even we have raised our hand when they passed by. we’ve asked for pepper for our kangaroo tartare, never came despite that we asked 3 times when we eventually get waiting staff’s attention. we have to yell it out loud to have anyone come to our table.

2. extremely long waiting time from each dishes. took us 30mins to get the pre-made sorbet. and our sorbet was all melted at a 22degree temperature.

i’ve mentioned it was my partner’s bd, was hoping a better treatment, not at all. we both left extremely disappointed. not recommended for a meal. perhaps a coffee for a nice view would be better if you wouldn’t mind for hot to cold coffee.

beautiful setting, tasty food but terrible service. we were excited to head to polperro for family lunch, but left feeling disappointed. despite booking we were left waiting for a table & once seated we had to chase the waitress constantly for menu’s, wine, water etc. we were at first sympathetic as they seemed understaffed, but even when the crowd thinned out, the service remained poor. would recommend rare hare over polperro for sure.

nice atmosphere and winery but the food was terrible. we were recommended to try this place and booked a week in advance to dine on a public holiday. quality of the food was probably worse than that of a average local cafe.the pork belly entree was burnt, as well as the meat jus that was served with the steak main. both meats were over cooked and dry even though we asked for the steak to be medium-rare. not only that the food was cooked terribly, the flavours of the food also did not work - radish and watermelon on the scallop was very strange and did not complement each other, the steak sauce had a very strange aftertaste. with the public holiday surcharge, would have been better to spend money elsewhere. haven’t been this disappointed with a meal ever, let alone spending over $100 per person

had a beautiful lunch at polperro, lovely room and there are also tables on the outside decking overlooking the vineyards. food was great especially the shared barramundi dish served with crispy shallots, red curry sauce & black rice. had a lovely bottle of the polperro chardonnay and the service was excellent. perfect for a long sunday lunch for couples or groups. picnic baskets are also an option to dine amongst the vines.

a day trip down to polperro bistro down on the peninsula, we went down with a group of friends on a beautiful sunny day. due to our group size, we were required to get a banquet which was a mixture of mains, shared dishes and sides from the menu.

this place is actually amazing! from the beautiful facade and location of the restaurant to the chic, stylish and elegant design of the decor. open and spacious in layout with a great contrast of colours between the interior design and exterior landscape. this is truly one of those establishments that have really thought of not only the visual experience of the food and interior decor but also that of the experience you could have on the grounds before and after you've eaten.

in saying that, it only takes one moment to ruin the day. we had a few vegos with us so before going to polperro, we had made sure to confirm by phone that there would be subs adequate for the $85.0 cost. we were assured that there would, as this was pretty standard however, we had some pretty upset vegos as they only got one entree and one main. we later found out they ordered vegetarian because they were pregnant!

the meat eaters had a few options for entrees and another few choices for mains. we suppose it would've been fine if vegos didnt have to pay the $85.0 banquet price too but, well... no, they did have to pay and to top it off, we had a taste of what they had and it wasn't anything to write home about. you'd think they had some vegetarian meals under wraps seeming as it is very prevalent these days to have vegetarians and vegans dine in *face palm*. also at such a reputable and well rated establishment, this should be standard. perhaps it would have made sense if the meals or sides brought out were sufficient for vegos to eat? after a few words with the staff, we just paid and left. at this point, any food eaten that was actually good, just left a bitter taste in our mouths. maybe we should've just told them that they were pregnant? but should we have to?

we would actually love to come back here and see what it's like without a group especially with such a beautiful establishment. we've read a few other reviews of polperro and it seems that where there is a group involved, polperro don't do so well. we'll give you an update if we do, and actually take photos (or rather keep them and not delete before posting). till next time, this is our foodie find!

arrived at polperro after being given a picnic lunch as a gift. what a great gift the experience was more than i expected. the weather was kind. sitting down by the dam surrounded by others enjoying the picnic offerings was a great out from the daily grind of work.
be sure to grab a bottle of their pinot gris (even keel) to complement the food.
do yourself a favor and check this place out. if the picnic isn’t something that interests you hang around the restaurant as there looks to be plenty going on there as well. as arnie would say “l will be back”

one of the best meals i’ve had. enjoyed a few starters, a small dish and then a larger share dish of slow roasted lamb shoulder. seriously fell off the bone and was complimented perfectly with crispy kale, smoked yogurt and salsa verde. although on the expensive side, very worth your money, we couldn’t finish the last dish we were so full! pairs beautifully with a vista of the grape vines and their own even keel wine.

had an amazing lunch at polperro on saturday.  this was mr b's special birthday lunch and i needed something a little romantic and gourmet for the occasion.  polperro offered an appetising menu and beautiful location so i booked us in for a late, long lunch!  due to the extremely hot weather on the day, our pre-lunch activities were cancelled so we turned up at the bistro in the hope that we could be accommodated an hour early.  fortunately, even though our table wasn't ready, we were seated in a very pleasant, shaded outdoor space, where we ordered drinks and whiled away the time relaxing on deck chairs.  once the table was ready we were taken into the dining room and our table for two, which was situated in front of the window overlooking the estate.

for starters mr b & i orders the white anchovies with oven roasted tomato on a crispy tortilla and the cured salmon, créme fraiche, blinis to share.  the blinis took a little while to arrive after the tortillas, but both dishes were thoroughly enjoyed.  beautifully crafted morsels!  for second course we ordered the cured scallops with watermelon, daikon, kaffir lime and black sesame.  this dish was delicately presented and tasted just as good as it looked.  a brilliant combination of flavours and textures.  for main we ordered the king prawns in kimchi butter, korean chilli and sam's lemons with a side of the grilled corn with manchego, sour cream and lime.  again another fantastic looking platter with plenty to eat.  prawns probably not as flavourful as i would have imagined, but certainly a great dish that was enjoyed by both of us.  after a reasonable break, we order dessert which consisted of iced lattes, the exquisite dark chocolate mousse with red hill cherries and whisky gel and a plate of the brie with crackers and fruit paste...all of which were amazing!  the mousse was to die for!  the whisky gel blew mr b away and nothing beats fancy, room temperature brie!

absolutely wonderful lunch experience. what i loved about this place was while it was fancy, the staff and ambience were relaxed. they made mr b's birthday lunch a special one.  highly recommended for a slightly upmarket special occasion, with beautiful food and beautiful views.

the first time i visited polperro for wine and cheese on the deck i knew i needed to come back for a restaurant meal. was disappointed. the food is share style, but not conducive to a group with one vego so i had to order my own. everything was so salty i drank about a liter of water throughout the meal. the service was just ok. only saving grace really was the dessert was yum.
