we had dinner here during our overnight stay on the peninsula and loved it! the space itself is really cosy: we felt right at home immediately. thestaffwere really friendly and gave us some great advice on choosing from the menu (and also vegie gardening advice!) and everything we had was excellent. they encourage sharing so we had a bit of everything: the foraged mushroom risotto gets a special mention. we felt really well looked after and will return next time we're down that way!

from the moment we arrived we were entranced. our welcome was warm and genuine. we were offered a wine tasting with the delightful eric, and accepted, excited to take in the entire experience. the tasting was informative, but also accessible. no judgment here of those of us who didn’t know all the wine speak. we were welcomed into the dining room with no pressure to buy the wines. in fact we were pleasantly surprised to see that there were beverages on offer from other than the winery. i chose the clover club. delicious. the food was simply divine. clean, fresh and visually stunning. the apple salad was a highlight because it was inventive and a lovely surprise. we didn’t sample the desserts but diners around us polished them off with lots of oohs and aahs. the waitstaffseemed to intuitively know when to appear, when to disappear and when to engage in appropriate banter. there was no stuffiness in this dining room. we loved it from start to finish. best of all we liked that it was a lot smaller than the other wineries yet it held its own and matched them hands down in the quality of service and food. we finished our meal with coffee on the verandah with a visit from the beautiful rosella birds and cheeky free range chicken. seriously, it ticked all the boxes. moderately priced at $80 - 100 per head. worth every dollar. thank you to everyone involved in hosting us.

the vineyard is breathtakingly beautiful with a cozy restaurant that’s not too big and therefore not too noisy. the interior is welcoming and warm and thestafffriendly and helpful. our overall experience was really good and i would definitely return.

as shown on the photos, the portions were fairly small and even the mains were sized so you would have to order sides. the beef which is shown on the photo plus the tiny bit of potato as a side was priced at $52 and left me wanting to order more dishes. the beef and potato itself was very good and cooked to perfection, i just thought it lacked a bit creativity and other ingredients for the price. we had two starters from the “small plates to share” section which we assumed would be larger than entree size (otherwise we would have ordered from the entree section) but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. the small plates should really be listed under starters as per photos of the rolled salmon share plate. the salmon bites as well as the wagyu beef was delicious and i would certainly recommend ordering these two plates when visiting.

the barramundi was nice and the portion was fair but again i felt as if it needed something else to make the dish special as i found the dish to be fairly simple and therefore a little overpriced. a highlight was the apple salad and the deserts, especially the white chocolate desert is highly recommended and was simply delicious.

if you are a big eater, better go elsewhere otherwise it’s a great and cozy winery with beautiful wine, cocktails and tasty food.

we went to polperro for lunch yesterday and enjoyed a lovely afternoon of warm ambiance, attentivestaffand impressive food. there was quite a raucous group seated behind us who would have benefited from being in a function room but other then that the only other blip was that they ran out of sourdough.

we started with the most delicious of lamb cutlets which was perfectly pink and yummy king salmon with goats cheese on lavish. i was disappointed with the excessive presence of chorizo on so many dishes given i do not eat pork. we also ordered a potato mille feuille that was recommended and when i asked what a particular ingredient listed on the menu was i was told it was the ‘creamy element’.

thankfully when another server brought it out he referred to it as chorizo cream when explaining the dish. all of the food was stunningly presented and the flavours of apple impressed me most of all for its uniqueness and theatrical smoke show.

we finished the day with a cellar door wine tasting as the fee was waived given we had lunch. i also recommend starting with a drink outside so you can take in the scenery and relaxing atmosphere. an enjoyable day out

great place to visit on a trip to the red hill area. the crackling wood fire kept the whole restaurant warm on a cold winter's day. 2 friends and i had the tour menu. plates were presented nicely and flavours were good. one star down for not being able to count, there were 3 of us but we were given 2 servings of popcorn, 2 servings of fish and 4 lamb cutlets. another star lost due to inattentive staff, we had bones and bare skewers on our plates, instead of clearing the table first, staffwere eager to put more plates of food on our already packed table. we were not asked if we wanted any more drinks after we had finished our first drinks, and our glasses of tap water were never refilled during our 2 hour sitting.

had an amazing lunch at polperro on saturday.  this was mr b's special birthday lunch and i needed something a little romantic and gourmet for the occasion.  polperro offered an appetising menu and beautiful location so i booked us in for a late, long lunch!  due to the extremely hot weather on the day, our pre-lunch activities were cancelled so we turned up at the bistro in the hope that we could be accommodated an hour early.  fortunately, even though our table wasn't ready, we were seated in a very pleasant, shaded outdoor space, where we ordered drinks and whiled away the time relaxing on deck chairs.  once the table was ready we were taken into the dining room and our table for two, which was situated in front of the window overlooking the estate.

for starters mr b & i orders the white anchovies with oven roasted tomato on a crispy tortilla and the cured salmon, créme fraiche, blinis to share.  the blinis took a little while to arrive after the tortillas, but both dishes were thoroughly enjoyed.  beautifully crafted morsels!  for second course we ordered the cured scallops with watermelon, daikon, kaffir lime and black sesame.  this dish was delicately presented and tasted just as good as it looked.  a brilliant combination of flavours and textures.  for main we ordered the king prawns in kimchi butter, korean chilli and sam's lemons with a side of the grilled corn with manchego, sour cream and lime.  again another fantastic looking platter with plenty to eat.  prawns probably not as flavourful as i would have imagined, but certainly a great dish that was enjoyed by both of us.  after a reasonable break, we order dessert which consisted of iced lattes, the exquisite dark chocolate mousse with red hill cherries and whisky gel and a plate of the brie with crackers and fruit paste...all of which were amazing!  the mousse was to die for!  the whisky gel blew mr b away and nothing beats fancy, room temperature brie!

absolutely wonderful lunch experience. what i loved about this place was while it was fancy, thestaffand ambience were relaxed. they made mr b's birthday lunch a special one.  highly recommended for a slightly upmarket special occasion, with beautiful food and beautiful views.

celebrated a family members birthday here. it's a beautiful winery with delicious shared pages for large groups. not only delicious but one of the most affordable banquet options on the peninsula. the dining room is beautiful too - with an open fire and a view onto the vineyards.
we visited on a very busy sunday but thestaffwere all helpful, friendly and eager to help. highly recommended.

started with crispy tortilla kingfish sashimi and parmesan churros. followed by glazed lamb ribs and king prawns, and sides of roast potatoes and salad were amazing. highly recommend the sharing options. everything was outstanding!

we stopped by here for lunch (on a monday) to find the restaurant full and he lack ofstaffnoticeable. he good was really tasty - corn fritters, sashimi and eggplant dishes are all must-tries. pity that the service didn't match the food. i had to ask for plates so we could eat when the food came out, my mother got told that the waiter was 'busy at the moment' when she asked for salt and pepper and then had the pepper snatched off the table before she had a chance to use it. an adding to the order for another round of starters caused some consternation. i understand that service can busy and i'm not the type of customer who gives attitude, so this experience makes me think again about going back. the food is great but service really needs a look to ensure that it meets that standard.

overall a fun experience at polperro. we came here on a hens day and opted to do a picnic in the field. the food in our picnic baskets was delicious - a shoutout to their terrine. wow! reminded me of the jars of handmade pork and duck terrines you can find at a farmers market in arles (france). the salmon and potato salad was simple but delightfully fresh! the only criticism is that onestafftold us that we could take away the leftover we couldn't finish, so we made an effort in packing up but all our efforts and food went to waste :-(

pole position. polperro is a charming fishing village in cornwall and an equally picturesque winery on the mornington peninsula. the latter is a lot easier to get to and now boasts accommodation as well as a restaurant, cellar door (polperro & even keel labels) & gorgeous grounds with the option of catered picnics in romantic wicker baskets.

i was the fortunate guest of a friend with a generous family. they had given her a big voucher to spend at polperro to celebrate a big birthday. with a 6pm booking at dinner, we made our way to polperro for a lazy afternoon tasting before 5pm, followed by casual drinks on the terrace overlooking the gum trees, vineyard and dam. the food is really good - the charcuterie plate, kingfish ceviche & cheese plate were all wonderful. the desserts were less interesting to me but my friend enjoyed hers - a deconstructed combination of flavours including white chocolate, matcha & cocoa nibs. the wine list traverses more than just the estate's own bottles, with an excellent range reasonably priced.

service was more patchy - possibly due to the relatively young floorstaffand large numbers of guests. we spent the pleasurable hour between 5pm & 6pm looking over the stunning scenery having ordered a bottle of even keel sparkling. but each time we were asked for more drinks, and indicated we had a bottle on the go, thestaffwalked off rather than find said bottle and refill our glasses. after the third time, we explicit asked for more wine to be poured, which seems an unnecessary requirement as a diner.

at dinner, we almost received another table's meals, and one dish we ordered was mistaken for another, but replaced quickly. we had plenty to eat so missing out on bread at the start of the meal wasn't a major issue but was another lapse. in a more memorable experience, l loved the friendly and energetic winery dog!

cannot fault the cellar door. friendlystaffand great estate. on the costly side but worth the visit and experience. not like most wineries in red hill that bank on the lack of options and here they actually try to win your business. if they can't fit you for lunch they even go to the extend of booking you in nearby.

everything was amazing! after tossing and turning searching for the right winery to take my boyfriend as a surprise for his birthday as soon as i discovered polperro i knew straight away this is perfect and im glad i chose this place. being winter we were lucky enough to have a bit of sun but either way the atmosphere made it cosy with its open fire that rain or shine it was perfect. thestaffwere amazing best ive seen in awhile always making sure we were looked after.
we had the lamb shoulder, im speechless at how amazing this meal was! and also surprised at the serving.

i look forward to going back again and bringing more people. thanks for a wonderful time polperro team.
