get your grease fix here just skip the fries!. original george's is situated on the bishop grandin-st.mary's intersection with signage visible from bishop. upon entry the server didn't really seat us nor give us much of a greeting, but rather pointed us towards a table. the eatery is designed and operated a lot more like a diner than an actual restaurant. the well-priced menu consists of classic diner food such as burgers, hot dogs, subs, sandwiches but true to it being known as a greek restaurant, has mostly greek entrees.
the server was quite attentive of water levels and did check up on us a few times. it is noteworthy that the drinks (pop) are not from a fountain thus are not bottomless. they also do not take mastercard as payment.
during this outing we sampled the dimitri's burger platter ($9.99) which is composed of 3 patties, chili, onions, mustard, pickle, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and 2 slices of cheese. the platter came with a very generous helping of fresh fries. the burger did taste quite good but it was extremely greasy as the bottom bun was completely soaked through from the inside. when it comes to burgers i usually look to not only the flavoring but also the ratio of the ingredients. there was a very large helping of lettuce and mayo in my burger which considering how we had 3 patties wasn't too big of an issue but had we ordered a double burger or smaller it would have been problematic. a pet peeve of mine is having too large of a bun when compared to the contents and similarly had we not ordered a 3 patty burger it would have been far too 'bun-ny'. another thing that we noticed was that there was very little, none, or didn't notice the chili in the burger. despite the above, the burger did taste delicious!
the fries were greasy and soggy and personally i prefer my fries to be crispy so next time i likely wont be ordering the platter.
the environment is also quite relaxed and comfortable so its a good place to grab some food and chill out and tell jokes. if you are craving big greasy burgers for a low price, original george's is the place to get your fix!
