patio and table side guacamole!. sunday night with family and friends at mi dia.
the patio has to be one of the nicest in the dfw area. i really enjoy the covered open feel and it's not just a straight design with four sides and a pergola. it has some character! the margaritas outstanding! considering this was my second opportunity to get out to eat in 3 weeks, i'm glad we chose this place!
table side guacamole is a must! freshly made in front of you and you get to choose all the ingredients they add to fresh shelled avocados. i was skeptical about sun dried tomatoes in the guacamole, but it worked very nicely along with the bacon. the only thing i would suggest is maybe an option to add blue cheese.
we split orders of ribs, shrimp tacos and sea bass tacos. the ribs were fork render with great flavor. we could have used a little more sauce. the shrimp tacos were good, but a bit under seasoned. they left a little to be desired. the sea bass tacos were absolutely the best thing we tasted and were outstanding. the chipotle sauce on the side was a great little kicker.
dessert included vanilla and chocolate ice creams, hand made sopapias, and churros with a real nice mild caramel style dipping sauce. all were excellent enders for the night! we will definitely bebackfor another visit and try other offerings and try to sit on the patio when the weather is good enough to enjoy it.

food is great but the service is inattentive and below mediocre. i'm pretty sure we won't be comingbackhere. quite a disappointment that the service has deteriorated so much that i am discouraged from returning. not only deteriorated but the bartender is a __tch! ignored for 20 minutes between 5:52-6:15 with an empty drink and closed menus... the restaurant isn't even busy. when she finally offered to take our order she walked away i called her on it and her repsonse, "it's a bartender's job to multi-task." yes, like she was for the past 20 minutes? last time i was here she was totally inappropriate and flashed me... thank you amy for clarifying the quality and integrity of your establishment. i guess when i want nm mexican i will be cooking at home.

great service and even better food! guacamole was to die for (highly recommend it) and the food tasted so authentic. i am from west texas and travelled to new mexico often. mi dia definitely reminded me of some of the awesome dishes i had there with hatch green chiles. the atmosphere and decor is very warm, modern and inviting. will definitely bebackfor sure!

good food / poor management. i would like to start out by saying the food was delicious and the atmosphere was nice. this would have been a 4.5 or a 5 if it hadn't been for the manager's (mike hiker?) attitude. we were seated outside on what started out as a pleasant 70 degree night. the wind was pretty strong, but as we walked to our seats i noticed how nice the heaters kept the patio. that is until we got to our table. it was so cold my kids were shivering so we asked if we could have a heater moved closer ( there was one that had clearly been moved very close to the bar and could have been moved evenly between both us and the bar and serviced us both) or move to another table inside. the manager informed me that it could be moved a little bit but that it wouldn't help (inside there was an empty table we could see the entire time that he said was seating in the next 10 minutes and actually was not seated for the remaining 45 minutes we were there). we waited 15 minutes and the heater was never moved. the manager finally camebackout after i asked the waiter when it was going to be moved. he tried to say something about how hard it would be to move the table where we were sitting closer to the heater. when i informed him that he had actually said he would move the heater he tried to deny it until he realized my mother had heard him too. when he did finally move the heater, he angrily kicked the cordbackseveral feet so that it didn't move close to us (it looked like he was trying to hide the length of the cord). i then talked to the waiter - he finally moved it where i asked and it felt perfect! meanwhile my little kiddos and the rest of us were cold for almost the entire meal unnecessarily.

i'm not sure why the manager was so intent on not making our dinner a pleasant experience, but he definitely succeeded.

there is more, but i hate to pile on. thankfully our waiter was a nice guy.

after reading some of the negative reviews we were somewhat apprehensive about dining here. however, our experience was outstanding at every encounter! prompt and friendly greeting, seated at our reserved time, speedy and knowledgable service and the food was delicious!! can't wait to gobackagain. thank you mi dia for a memorable meal.

k&j_041412. i took my wife and her cousin to mi dia for dinner. very modern and upscale look inside and out. our waiter took very good care of us along with the manager who stopped by to check on us more than once.

i had the new mexico tampiquena and my wife and her cousin both had the ox eyes stacked enchiladas. we all enjoyed the meal and plan on comingbacksoon. i would highly recommend mi dia as a place to get traditional and more exotic mexican dishes.

disappointed. i love the ambiance of mi dia but was disappointed in the portion size and the food. it does not meet up to my expectations. probably would go there for happy hour and appetizers only.

frustrated. it's a beautiful restaurant and has a nice feel. i wish i felt the same way about the food which is marginal. if you eat a lot of mexican food, you know the difference. they need to step it up or they won't be put on the same ole' chain restaurants list. for people who know the difference and willing to pay the price, i would only gobackthere for drinks. sorry, we expect more from the owners of bob's chop house.

need to get their act together. i have attempted to dine at mi dia twice. i absolutely understand the "call ahead" method. first time, i called ahead and was told they would put my name down and it would be about a 20 minute wait once we arrived and that we would be seated inside as per requested (it was very cold out). when we arrived, we were told it would be an hour wait to sit on the patio and there was nothing sooner than that inside. we left. second experience. i called a week ahead as we had a party of 12. i was told to callbackto the restaurant by 11am to day of to get our name on the "call ahead" list and that there may still be a 20 minute wait, but that they would certainly seat us together, inside. i just got off the phone with them and was told by the manager that they have no 12 tops, the largest they have is an 8 top. i explained that i had called last week and was told there was no problem seating 12 together. i told the manager that his employees aren't aware they have no 12 tops. he said "oh yes, they are all aware" well, why didn't they know when i called? he said they would have to seat our party at 2 different tables. i told him we would have to go elsewhere as we really want to sit together and he said "ok" and hung up, literally just hung up. i don't care how good your food is, when you have horrible customer service, especially from the manager (didn't get his name, but it is 12/16 at 9:30am), that tells me a lot. with so many restaurants out there that provide exceptional service who want our patronage, mi dia, you will never see a dime of my money.

my new favorite place. as a frequent diner at bob's in grapevine, i have watched with anticipation as this restaurant was built. so when i read on sidedish that this place was set to open october 3rd, i set up a date with a couple of girlfriends to check it out. first of all, let me just say wow! the ambience and set-up of this place is stunning! the restaurant has a very modern and open design. the entirebackwall is made of glass which overlooks an enormous patio. the patio has its own bar with seating, along with at least 15 other tables. the coolest part was the huge fire pit. it was the perfect backdrop for enjoying fancy cocktails and amazing food, on a nice 68 degree night. this patio just beckons anyone passing by to stop, and i have no doubt that it will be the host of many lively evenings to come. seriously, the ambience was so cool that i would gobackeven if the food and service sucked....

...but they didn't. one of the first things i judge a mexican restaurant by is their chips and salsa (duh). and lately it seems like most of my old standby's (unlce julios, mi cocina, pappasitos) have let their salsas go by the wayside. but the salsa here was a unique mixture of red and green, with a very unique flavor, spicy, and clearly fresh. the chips had a good medium consistency and were not greasy. since i usually like to order the most unusual items i can find at restaurants, we ordered the sopes and we ordered the tamales for my friends as an appetizer. the sopes are described on the menu as corn masa boats topped with pork belly, black beans, queso fresco, crema and salsa negra. they were full of flavor and the best part was that they were unique (as in not something that every other mexican restaurant makes). the tamales were fantastic! i had no idea tamales could be that good. the meat inside the tamales was tender and had a good kick to it.

for entrees we ordered the chile relleno stuffed with pulled pork, the duck carnitas, and the new mexico tampiquena. the chile relleno was stuffed with a ton of very tender and very flavorful pulled pork, but the thing i like most about it was the fact that it was not covered in batter and fried. the relleno was grilled, topped with a little queso fresco, and served over spicy red and green sauces. this type of preparation allowed me to really enjoy the flavor of the pork and the chile pepper. also, i didn't feel like a big greasy pig afterwards. i was skeptical about the duck carnitas since i usually find duck to be bland, but these ended up being my favorite entrée. the carnitas are served on four small fresh tortillas and topped with pickled onion and roasted poblano peppers. but what really made this dish stand out was the sweet and very, very spicy red sauce they served on the side. the new mexico tampiquena was a large skirt steak served with blue corn cheese enchiladas, rice, beans and guacamole. the server took a temperature on the skirt steak. this is very unusual in a mexican restaurant and greatly appreciated by our group since we like our red meat medium-rare. the steak was tender and full of flavor.

by the time we moved on to dessert i totally full, of course, but there was no way i was going to pass on those desserts. finally, a mexican restaurant in dfw besides javier's that actually put some thought into their desserts! we ordered the mexican smores and the empanadas. the mexican smores consisted of two thin graham crackers stuffed with a house-made marshmallow and thick peanut butter fudge, served alongside a scoop of mexican chocolate ice-cream. the plate was drizzled with cajeta and pomegranate sauces. their use of mexican ice-cream and goat's milk cajeta is what really turned me on about this dish. i've always found goat's milk to give a richer and gourmet taste to everything. and the smores was very rich indeed. the empanadas were stuffed with goat cheese and guava gelee, and then served with a side vanillas goat cheese ice-cream and more of that luxurious cajeta sauce. i could seriously just order a bowl of the cajeta and be happy with that.

last but certainly not least, i have to tell you about the drinks! this place has an impressive drink menu. not only do they offer over 100 premium tequilas (so they told me), but they use fresh squezzed juice for everything. one of my friends ordered a watermelon mexican martini (tequila, cointreau, and lime juice) and they took a fresh slice of watermelon and juiced it right there for her drink! i had a drink called the blackbird. this one had tequila, squirt and a couple of other things, muddled with fresh blackberries and sage. it was sooo delicious, and even though i couldn't taste a lot of alcohol, my buzz told me it was there. my other friend ordered a mexican martini flavored with serrano peppers and cilantro. i know it sounds weird but it was actually very good. . the drink itself tasted a little sweet at first with a nice kick at the end.

i want to live here! can you tell?
