appearance-wise, one cannot missmayain a row of quirky restaurants and establishments at the crossroads mall, which must be cebu city’s favorite hangout spot for hipsters. its interiors are modern and cozy, and accentuated with furnishings and decors that are inspired by the mayan civilization of mexico.
food was superb and came in huge servings that were reasonably priced. we ordered themayanachos that had three cheeses, beans, salsa, and greens for our appetizer, as well as shared a california style asada burrito. in between the nachos and burritos, we savored pescado tacos made from soft tejano style flour and filled with crisp coated fish fillet, taking advantage of their buy one, take one promotion upon the suggestion of the restaurant manager who thought that our original orders were too heavy for two. the bar list was also impressive. there was a craft beer selection and for myself, i ordered two half pints of “special brew” from cebu’s award-winning brewer, james abilla. two because it was so good, i could not limit myself to just one.
the little anecdote above speaks well about the attentiveness of maya’s management and staff, as well as of their overall customer service. the music was modern and perfect for an urban happy hour yet not too loud for a decent conversation. we definitely had a great experience dining for the first time at maya.
