louie's wine dive

excellent experience!. my husband and i took my grandparents here for dinner last night, as we live in the brookside area. we love this restaurant and my grandparents now agree! my grandfather is actually a caterer himself... thistimei tried the salmon and sugarsnap peas dish, which came served on top of egg noodles in a light lemon dill sauce. i would highly recommend it!!! we also had a+ service, as well.

my first visit to louie’s wine dive in waldo was a very pleasant one. from the owners to the servers and bartenders, everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful, and they all wanted us to be happy with our experience. we were there on a monday evening, during happy hour. i had heard that the noise in the restaurant can be deafening when full, but fortunately we were there at atimewhen it wasn’t packed, and they were playing great old tunes from the 70s and 80s. we could also see their unique wine program in action. they have a printed wine list, but also sell many bottles that are only listed on the big blackboard display. unlike most restaurants that sell certain wines by the glass and others only by the bottle, at louie’s they will open any bottle even if not typically offered by the glass as long as the diner/sipper commits to buying two glasses. every monday they have a fire sale with discounted glasses of wine that they need to move after a w

food good, management not. we have been to louie's before and the food is great! the problem seems to be the maitre d. tonight, they lost our reservation and told us we could wait downstairs and have a drink and appetizer, until a table opened up. we went downstairs and there wasn't anywhere to sit, also didn't appear to have wait staff, you had to get drinks from the bar down there. the hostess could not tell us how long it might be to get a table.
we finally got fed up enough to leave and i told the hostess to take our names off the list as we were leaving. she was very apologetic and nice and offered us free appetizer coupons and said she'd bring the manager over.
the manager came over and did not know they'd lost our reservation. i told him what happened and he basically just stared at us and didn't really comment.
i'm not expecting anything for free, i don't mind paying for a good meal, what bothered me was the fact that i made our reservation early in the day and they somehow lost it and the manager didn't really seem to care, nor did he try to do anything about it.
i hope they figure the reservation system out, it is really a good restaurant in the neighborhood, but i won't expect to get a table with a reservation again, as this is the secondtimethis happened, since the place opened a month ago!

on our first visit co-owner corey greeted us at beginning of meal and again, after. very gracious host, as was our server andy. meal splendidly prepared and we tipped the kitchen some boulevard ipa.

on our second visit, it was very busy (normally, we like busy) but small space and acoustics made it something short of a jet engine roar. ok, easy to fix right?

apparently not. on this second trip, it was a second co-owner, chris, who came over to our table, and we complimented on meal, wine list ect., but when we mentioned the acoustics were a bit. off (easy to fix) he turned snarly . . . and was incredibly rude to my wife.

chris, you get your wish . . . we won't be back. you were right and we "are clearly not [your] type of customer."

so i had high hopes for this place since all of the reviews i've read have been glowing. my food was fantastic and the wine selection is pretty good. they were pretty busy so maybe that was the reason for the not so swell service my fiancé and i received. they got our side salads out within a reasonable amount oftimebut then we waited and waited. and then they brought us a second round of salad. we told the food runner we had already received our salads and had eaten them already. and then we waited. probably another 25 minutes passed before our meal was brought out to us. i got the 4 pork gnocchi. it was delish, i have to say. my fiancé got the roasted chicken. it was dry. all in all we waited about an hour and a half from when we placed our order to get our main course. and then we were never offered any sort of discount or anything off our bill. not even a salad comp. i will be back though because i'm hoping this was just a onetimemess up. i really want to love this place.
