louie's wine dive

my husband and i ate here for lunch. he had the fish and chips and i had the honey butter chicken. the food was notgoodbut the drinks were tasty! service wasgoodtoo, but i won't be eating here again.

sunday brunch with a girlfriend.  what a fun time, two hour brunch, no rush,goodvisit.  both of us chose the crab cake benny and split a carafe of mimosas.  they use a really tasty champagne in the mimosas and they were better than most i've had.  the crab cake with breakfast potatoes was really delicious also.  plus the whole tab with the tip was like $53.00 which i found reasonable.  put this on your list of places to visit for sure (tip-go late, we went early and i got nothing done all day after those mimosas!)

good local hangout. went for dinner w/ friends who knowgoodwine. their list is good, and allows you to experiment without risking the purchase of an entire bottle. if you commit to two glasses they will open any bottle, you can try even their best!

food was above average, not knock your socks off, but makes you happy you got out with friends. we tried bruschetta sampler and were very happy with it -- they do some fun things with this plate. the short ribs were also verygoodas was the shrimp and grits, although wish it had some veggies in it. friend had a baked louie and all agreed this tasted like home made, had great flavor andgoodspice.

service was really great, just enough attention,goodadvice, friendly and warm. one of the owners came around too -- that makes a big difference so they know their own strengths and opportunities.

whole table agreed we want to be 'regulars' here and get there more often than other places. definitely worth the visit, make reservations, and prepare to relax and have agoodtime.

i have worked in many bars and kitchens in my life. i know how hard the first few months after opening is and can be. with that being said, louies is doing amazing! i have been there 4 times since opening. seems like a lot i know, the wife love the smores. the main problems with the start of a restaurant is consistency with the food and service. all 4 times i have been, have been far above par. the food comes out with the same look and taste every time, which shows the restaurant hasgoodlegs. the service has shown to be knowledgeable and the menu and wine selection as well as kind. i love this new addition to waldo! it's refreshing to have a new great place to go out for dinner that's not a bar in waldo. sure, there is a wait on friday and saturday night, and yes the kitchen gets backed up. but its worth the wait. in a few months this will be a waldo staple....and still on a 2 hour wait cause its that good!

food good, management not. we have been to louie's before and the food is great! the problem seems to be the maitre d. tonight, they lost our reservation and told us we could wait downstairs and have a drink and appetizer, until a table opened up. we went downstairs and there wasn't anywhere to sit, also didn't appear to have wait staff, you had to get drinks from the bar down there. the hostess could not tell us how long it might be to get a table.
we finally got fed up enough to leave and i told the hostess to take our names off the list as we were leaving. she was very apologetic and nice and offered us free appetizer coupons and said she'd bring the manager over.
the manager came over and did not know they'd lost our reservation. i told him what happened and he basically just stared at us and didn't really comment.
i'm not expecting anything for free, i don't mind paying for agoodmeal, what bothered me was the fact that i made our reservation early in the day and they somehow lost it and the manager didn't really seem to care, nor did he try to do anything about it.
i hope they figure the reservation system out, it is really agoodrestaurant in the neighborhood, but i won't expect to get a table with a reservation again, as this is the second time this happened, since the place opened a month ago!

went there on opening night. no place like it in kc. so awesome. wine lovers paradise. wine lovers who wear jeans and are real people. such a cool place with a great vibe. food isgoodtoo. my new #1!!!
