lone star taqueria

my new favorite place in salt lake. great food, price, atmosphere!

apres ski food - lone star burros. i sunk my teeth into my first lone star burro about 10 years ago after a day of learning to ski [read: tired, achey and ravenous!] and it was a good thing i was ravenous, because the burritos served at lone star are h-u-g-e!!! they are also the best tasting burrito i have ever encountered: and i eat a lot of burritos! i love their burritos so much (i've eaten there many times now since that first visit), that i have yet to try anything else on their menu -- as tempting as those other items are...i just can't fathom missing a single opportunity to chow down on a pollo asada burro when i'm there, and by the time i've finished one of those, i'm so full i have no room to sample something new!

anyhow -- the reason i titled this review "apres ski food" is twofold -- not only did my first experience eating here happen to be after a day on the mountain, they also offer a 10% discount off your meal if you show them your today-dated ski pass!

highly recommend. this taqueria where everything including the salsa is made fresh.
the fish taco's today were salmon, and they were marinated and grilled before being placed in a corn tortilla and covered with cabbage, they serve them with lime wedges and a with fish sauce, all that blended well into a heavenly experience.
the usual sides are given with the combo, mexican rice and beans. unusual though was the quality. the beans had not been pureed and sitting in a pot since last week. they were severed whole bean with onion and other spices making it a delicious blend. even the rice was a frefreshing change from the glutinous mass often found at poorer mexican places.
the chips and salsa was also worth ordering. they have a salsa bar with six different salsa's from pico de gillo, to hot, and mild.
i look forward to going back and trying their burritos. go early as it is a small place and filled up quickly.

great food!. if you're a steak fan, get the delmonico steak--most flavorful ever! their pecos peach drink is also great (virgin of coarse!).

fish tacos are the best. there are no fish tacos better than at lone star. the fish is grilled and the jalapeno cilantro lime mayonnaise is the perfect addition. the summer/winter salad is also a favorite. the tamales are delicious as well. lone star is a popular stop on the way from the ski slopes. parking is limited but so is dining space but worth the inconvience.
