lime and basil is a quaint restaurant in the outskirts of the tagaytay highway. it was pretty at night with a tent set-up in the garden, which i surmise would be equally enthralling in the morning.
we tried getting reservations, but were unable to, so we tried our luck walking in. we arrived before the dinner crowd and were able to get a table for 4. we initially thought our server didn't want us to dine tonight, as she was insisting the table left was too small for us. we were persistent, saying it didn't bother us that much, and she finally relented. they *i think* tried making up for it by setting up another table inside so we can transfer, which was really appreciated.
now comes the food - we ordered the catfish salad, whose green mangoes were waaay too sour. the catfish was crisp and cooked well, and the salad went well with the sweet, clear sauce that came with the chicken satay. the chicken satay was cooked perfectly, and the peanut sauce complimented the dish. it was a good balance of sweet and savory, one that my brother claimed to be the best he'd tasted. we ended up getting 2 orders of the pad thai simply because it was that good. it was a really good rendition of the thai favorite, i'm salivating again just thinking about it. skip the last dish we ordered - the stir fry chicken with cashews. it was lackluster and forgettable. it was a tad bit salty and disappointing.
overall, it was such a pleasant experience, i'd go back, definitely, for the pad thai and satay. the price point is also reasonable for a date or two in the future 😊
