bleurg. visited recently with much anticipation. we snagged a spot with no reso (and no welcoming vibes either) butservicewas very spotty. shared a few small plates which were okay, with the exception of the sea urchin linguine which was shockingly poor and poorly executed. feeling confused and bummed about that experience. will return, because i really want to like this place. fool me once, etc.

went for brunch.  perhaps after reading so much about it, i expected too much.  the menu is orignal and the food was quite good, but the prices were too high for what you got.  too much pomp for what it is.  one thing that particularly irked me is that the coffee was not included.  i know 3$ is not much overall, but coffee costs so little to a restaurant, and the prices of the plate is so high that they should just include it with brunchservicelike all other restaurants do.

good but not great. the place is small and simple. theserviceis friendly. when you read the menu it sounds appetizing and inventive but when the food shows up, it slightly loses its appeal.

overall, everything i tasted was absolutely amazing (i had a bite of wangfood’s pig trotter). i will definitely be coming back to try their other dishes (perhaps with tfung).servicewas good, i didn’t ever have to wait to get what i wanted, they seemed to know and came over fairly promptly. the restaurant seats about 30, which may be the reason thatserviceis more manageable. if you haven’t tried this amazing brunch place, please do! it’s also situated near lots of other amazing food joints (voro, kem coba, fairmount bagels) as it’s on fairmount and st laurent.

looked promising...until the main courses arrived. it highly pains me to write this as i rarely have to complain about the amazing eats in montreal. my friends booked a reservation for lawrence yesterday in the afternoon for 9:30 pm. we arrive there and were very pleased with the ambiance of the place. most importantly, we were starved. we ordered appetizers which, to be honest, were delicious and fresh. we had oysters that were amazing, beef tartar that was so fresh and perfectly spiced, smoked mackerel with celery root that was so tasty and a pig cheek that was quite loved as well. now onto the main courses, we weren't very adventurous and three of us ordered the roasted veal with black cabbage and potatoes and the other three the striped bass (i may have the fish wrong but that part was delicious) risotto with cherry tomatoes.

the veal was bland, the potatoes were overly salty and it felt like a meal i can whip out at home and not spend 29$ at a restaurant on. the risotto was overcooked and soaked in liquid although the fish was good, granted. for 30$, you do not expect a small bowl of a messy overcooked liquid risotto. not one person was pleased with their choice. when the waitress came to pick up the dishes, she did not bother even asking how everything was which annoyed a few of us.

onto the dessert. as much as we should have taken the bad main courses as a sign to give up and get the bill and finish our drinks, we were still hopeful based on the delicious appetizers and the appealing menu choice of sweets. we got the chocolate mousse, the queen elizabeth cake with bourbon ice cream and the apple tart tatin.

and then i took a bite out of the chocolate mousse. which was basically an unsweetened dark chocolate heavy cake! the horror! with a sour tasting cream dollop on top. the apple tart was like a warmed up pastry that was the portion for a child. the queen elizabeth cake was eaten all of up which makes me believe it must have been good.

oh and then they forgot my cappuccino.

the raving reviews for brunch i will believe. for dinner, i would avoid this place. after getting a hefty bill, we left discussing about what a disappointment that was.
restaurant should rethink menu and priorities to check up with customers. although, theserviceitself was great, the waitress was overall lovely and our water was always filled.

oh well. onto the next!

been to lawrence for brunch twice, both time theserviceand meal were just perfect. definitely remind me of my time in the uk when i had scones with clotted cream and jam, and english breakfast in the morning. what's good at lawrence? pretty much everything. i would highly suggest to start your brunch with the scone, light, soft and crumbly, spread it with jam and clotted cream to make this scone taste heavenly. for the mains, look at the pictures below, see what your stomach tells you to eat. chances are, you won't be disappointed.

happy place. i've been to lawrence twice. once because i was stuck at the airport for 8 hours due to a cancelled flight and decided to cab it to lawrence and once with my wife and another couple. firstly the food is great. i have tried most things on the menu as i tend to order many different dishes for the table to share and they were all great. more importantly, i find thatservicein montreal generally sucks. either the staff is un-informed, not friendly, too affected, in a rush, not experienced, or just plain old poor montreal service. lawrence is the opposite. what made my two visits that much more enjoyable was the fantastic service, the smiles and the genuine care from the entire staff. bravo!

the menu at lawrence changes daily showcasing market fresh ingredients always at their peak. the menu is published usually within hours ofservicefor brunch sat-sun, lunch wed-fri & dinner wed-sat on their twitter account, the link to the menu on their website redirects you to the twitter account as well. we sat down at the bar, ordered a few lattes and a hot buttered crumpet with jam to start. nothing ruins a morning meal like bad coffee, thankfully the lattes were exemplary, and beautiful as well; the girl behind the bar running the coffee machine finished both cups with beautiful designs in the foam. the crumpet arrived hot and plentifully buttered on a pretty little plate with a side of jam, it was awesome and

bubbly h2o. dining at lawrence is dining in a hip and cool place in the plateau. definitely start your experience with bubbles & framboises, a yummy cocktail that will put you in the mood for a heavy but tasty meal. the first spoons of the sweet corn and bacon soup with shrimp fritters were fantastic, but it quickly felt less sweet and perhaps more smoky. although, i could not get enough of the incredible shrimp fritters! the aroma of the braised beef for the main course was addictive; i enjoyed the tenderness of the beef, but felt the heaviness of the dish half way through. it may have been a more appropriate meal for a cold winter night. theservicewas outstanding; not only was the staff attentive, but they were very charming. regardless how heavy the meal felt, i always find place for desert and the lightness of the strawberry and rhubarb shortcake reminded me that the summer is not over yet which should be celebrated with more bubbles!

overpriced. i had heard such great things about lawrence, i decided to finally make an event of it and go with some friends. the place was packed. theservicewas wonderful overall. my boyfriend ordered the english breakfast which was quite good, but 16$ (with tax)?!?! it was definitely not worth that amount. i am not a fan of greasy corner joints, but you could have gotten the same meal at another decent place for 8$. i ordered the eggs and smoked salmon - way too much eggs and hardly no salmon (although it was good). 14$. just crazy. save your 40$ and go elsewhere.

everything – from entrees to desert (except the espresso) – was turbo tasty and i’d find it hard to believe that there’s something on the menu that isn’t put together with immense passion and love for food. while the food is of high quality, the price per portion is also quite high and so you can expect to spend between 50-80$ per person for a complete meal. the high price though is not only justified by the great food but also by the great service. every waitress/waiter i encountered was eager to please and very welcoming. besides their cool hipster-esque outfits, they all had spunky attitudes and had great input on every dish on the menu – really the wayserviceshould be at a restaurant. on top of it all, their experienced sommelier etheliya hananova was very bubbly and helpful in matching the right wine for the right dish.
