:mile-end/plateau: my sister and i love brunch. and she sometimes turns tomontrealbrunch and breakfast to get the intel on newer places (p.s. i, too, enjoy this site). a month before my visit, she told me about lawrence . i wanted to try it for dinner but we were so slow to move this weekend and just couldn't get it together for a "night out". or maybe it was just me. i was a bit of a mess this weekend. i think it started with the pinot grigio i pounded back on friday night as soon as i got in. after that i was so sloppy - dropping things, lots of things, many times. *sheepish grin* we woke up late sunday morning and bixi-ed over to find a crowd. luckily i was still half-asleep and could use the time to fully wake up. the host took our name and number and said he'd call when a table opened. it was about a 20 minute wait so we decided to get some bagels and enjoy the sun and spring breeze. once inside, the place reminded me of sunday lunch by the sea. do you know what i mean? pictures

visited lawerence twice while inmontrealas i was told we had to have breakfast. our first visit was for lunch where we dined on interesting small plates and orange wine - our server found us adventerous and she was right. the second visit, i went with a group of people and we were accomodated at the bar. we were a little hungover from the night before, but managed to try several items from the menu, including the lemon custard donuts which were unreal. loved both experiences but found the staff to be a little aloof but friendly nonetheless. would definitely recommend and will certainly be back the next time i'm in montreal.

no doubt that lawrence is definitely one of the top brunch spots inmontrealand on my list. the restaurant is always packed with people on the weekends. i first visited in april with my mom, and i’ve fallen in love with this place, so i chose to celebrate my birthday here with my friends! (left) the menu; (top right) latte; (bottom right) early grey tea lawrence ‘s menu sometimes changes due to what’s fresh during the season or on the market, so you can check out their updates on their twitter . my mom ordered the latte when we visited in april, and i loved it. it was really smooth, and you can feel that the milk is really creamy and rich, but i’m afraid that i would feel full after that huge cup of latte, so i had the early grey tea instead, since it was also recommended by my friend! their early grey tea was pretty good! it doesn’t have the astringent taste, and the flavor is still there after few refills too! scone with jam and clotted cream i

a great english-style breakfast, some excellent pastries, and some good coffee were a great start to the day. i’ll have to add them to mymontrealhit list for return visits.

it is no secret anymore that brunch at lawrence restaurant inmontrealis one of the best in the city. the long line up in front of this mile end restaurant is a testament to how popular the british pub is. i’ve never actually been there for dinner – which, i hear, is fantastic – but i’ve been going there for brunch on a regular basis for about two years now.

montreal: you’ve come a long way, baby. when i lived in vermont from 1988 to 1999, i made many trips tomontrealin desperate search for more diverse food. my typical day might include the mandatory smoked meat sandwich at schwartz’s, dinner and grocery shopping in chinatown, and the pick-up of a couple of bags of bagels from fairmount bagel. during those years, the dining scene wasn’t especially sophisticated. nor was my palate. far too many miles frommontrealnow, i rarely get back. so when a recent business trip to upstate new york gave memontrealas a choice of airports, i pounced on the opportunity to pay a visit. food choices are now far more fabulous. needless to say, i stuffed myself silly, sloshing through the snow and sacrificing my stomach to make the most of my very limited time in the city. the result: i have recommendations of restaurants and more for an idyllic day of eating in this special city. breakfast whatever time you wake up, know that bagels are waiting. both f

maybe it's better for brunch and lunch. we dined here over the weekend, it really wasn't all it cracked up to be. not to say it was terrible.

we order a dish for two people, the eel with clams and beans. the eel was mushy, like it was frozen or something. and the clams turned out to be razor clams, which were disgusting. i ate one razor clam, which had so many little pieces of clam shell in it, it felt like little razor blades going down my throat. this really ruined my dining experience, because those little pieces of shell stayed in my throat for hours making it horribly painful to swallow. i didn't make a big deal of this, the dish was a bit hardcore, but the ingredients could have been higher quality, especially with the price tag attached to it.

i like the atmosphere, but i have too say the servers were too cool to serve our table. we eat at trendy restaurants inmontrealquite often, and while the servers are most often hipsters, they usually aren't so passive.

the maitre d' is very rude - he keeps a list that is a prop to be able to work in regulars. i would be cautious with this statement but after being seated he was telling the "new guy" how he "works the list" they don't turn over tables so after waiting an hour and half it gets a bit annoying to see half the room treating the place as a coffee shop. we were told it would be at most 45 mins. the food is just ok but nothing special- i would echo the comment that one could easily cook the stuff for yourself. the owner should rethink the front of house and fire the maitre d' - there is no point eating here nothing special. it's sad there is some amazing places to eat inmontrealunfortunate to waste a lot of time at this place.

happy place. i've been to lawrence twice. once because i was stuck at the airport for 8 hours due to a cancelled flight and decided to cab it to lawrence and once with my wife and another couple. firstly the food is great. i have tried most things on the menu as i tend to order many different dishes for the table to share and they were all great. more importantly, i find that service inmontrealgenerally sucks. either the staff is un-informed, not friendly, too affected, in a rush, not experienced, or just plain old poormontrealservice. lawrence is the opposite. what made my two visits that much more enjoyable was the fantastic service, the smiles and the genuine care from the entire staff. bravo!
