my girlfriend and i went to the lawrence for the weekendbrunchand we were not disappointed. i had the crispy pork infused polenta with bacon, sunny side eggs, and quite possibly the best toast i have ever eaten. this place delivered on food and beyond. the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. the decor is warm, inviting, cozy, and bright. amazing place. definitely a gem and will be going back next time i'm in montreal.

:mile-end/plateau: my sister and i love brunch. and she sometimes turns to montrealbrunchand breakfast to get the intel on newer places (p.s. i, too, enjoy this site). a month before my visit, she told me about lawrence . i wanted to try it for dinner but we were so slow to move this weekend and just couldn't get it together for a "night out". or maybe it was just me. i was a bit of a mess this weekend. i think it started with the pinot grigio i pounded back on friday night as soon as i got in. after that i was so sloppy - dropping things, lots of things, many times. *sheepish grin* we woke up late sunday morning and bixi-ed over to find a crowd. luckily i was still half-asleep and could use the time to fully wake up. the host took our name and number and said he'd call when a table opened. it was about a 20 minute wait so we decided to get some bagels and enjoy the sun and spring breeze. once inside, the place reminded me of sunday lunch by the sea. do you know what i mean? pictures

i've mentioned these guys before, they are responsible for the best sandwich i've ever eaten. i went forbrunchwith a monster hangover and they sorted me out. i had the full english and a pot of tea. there was even bubble and squeak! only gripe is the bowl type plate which makes it hard to manouvre things around and that there wasn't a hash brown, because their presence is always welcome. can't wait to get back there for dinner. brunchwas less than $20, no booze.

for mothers day this year we sought out mile-end's lawrence, often heralded as a topbrunchdestination in town. this high praise was confirmed upon arrival, as we stepped into a packed dining room – not to mention a small lineup of diners – for our first visit to this five-year-old eatery.

today's mile-end crowd was predictably young and cool, while also incorporating a number of families with children of various ages – ours included.

thebrunchmenu strikes a nice balance of sucré/salé with crowd-pleasers such as scones, french toast and smoked salmon, in addition to lesser-known items including kedgeree, scrapple and bubble & squeak (say what now?).

our waitress – also a partner here – was friendly and very knowledgeable. naturally, we had a slew of questions concerning the aforementioned funky dish names, all of which she expertly clarified in detail.

lawrence is a symbol of the city's modern ideal of refined yet unpretentious cuisine. today's spectacularbrunchensured everyone at our table was more than satisfied, mothers included; mission accomplished!

for a classic, warm and hearty english breakfast experience, you won't get wrong at lawrence located at the corner of st. laurent and fairmount. its exterior is not that flattering as it's painted all black, and its ambience is a mix of urban contemporary and british classics, a few classic sofas and chairs are put in the waiting areas right beside the door, many contemporary paintings/photos are hanging on the walls, tables and chairs are of british styles, there are also a row of seats along a long bench with checker fabrics which reminded me a bit of scottish traditions. other than that, the interior is quite simple and raw with some outdoor lights strings hanging across the room and air duct exposed on the ceiling. the bar is also very simple with various drinks and glassware put on a few racks similar to those you saw in a retail store.

since i came at thebrunchtime and it's my first time here, i ordered what the waiter said is their signature dish: english breakfast. while i was waiting i saw a young lady at the bar making espresso lattes with the various artistic paintings using the froth at the top, i consequently ordered one for myself, guess what, the young lady painted a beautiful heart for me, thank you :)

my english breakfast arrived soon after, it looks exactly like a home made breakfast which consists of two slices of bacons, a large lamb flavored sausage, some hash browns and bean paste, a sunny side egg , some perfectly sautéed white mushrooms and two halves of french toast. i must say i enjoyed every bit of it, especially the bacons which are fresher and firmer than those from supermarket, and seem to be homemade with the smells of smoke still lingering, a taste i haven't had for a long time since my childhood. some of the reviewers complained about the small portion, that is not the case for the english breakfast after which i felt pretty full.

from what i can see on other tables, their other dishes seem to be good and temptation to me too, i'll definitely return to try them out.

went for brunch.  perhaps after reading so much about it, i expected too much.  the menu is orignal and the food was quite good, but the prices were too high for what you got.  too much pomp for what it is.  one thing that particularly irked me is that the coffee was not included.  i know 3$ is not much overall, but coffee costs so little to a restaurant, and the prices of the plate is so high that they should just include it withbrunchservice like all other restaurants do.

maybe i expected too much from the very popular restaurant. visited them for lunch with a friend and was quite surprised at the quality of food. yes, on the menu it sounded very appetizing and i was so excited to try my food. when i got it, i was surprised at the portion a little bit and the taste. the food itself was very good, but i guess i expected a wow factor, which i didn't get. it also was quite expensive for lunch ($50/2 people with 2 small dishes each). i might return forbrunchsince they're so highly praised for it, but not for lunch or dinner.

shabby chic, dark wood and vintage accents reminiscent of a british pub sets the homey tone to the warm meal being served your way. owner sefi amir and chef marc cohen continue to make our mouths water with their nose-to-tail philosophy menu selections. changing daily/weekly depending on what the freshest ingredients are the market, you can check out their twitter account (@lawrencefood) for live updates of what’s to be featured. amongst many things on offer are farm fresh eggs, specialty products and produce, bread, butter and, of course, meat. if their cuts of meat truly tickle your fancy, one will be happy to note that the lawrence team has their own butcher shop a couple of doors down. their extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff makes you feel like you’re a member of the family rather than a patron. hopefully they’ll have treated you well enough, to come on over forbrunch– one of the most buzz worthy of the city!

overall, everything i tasted was absolutely amazing (i had a bite of wangfood’s pig trotter). i will definitely be coming back to try their other dishes (perhaps with tfung). service was good, i didn’t ever have to wait to get what i wanted, they seemed to know and came over fairly promptly. the restaurant seats about 30, which may be the reason that service is more manageable. if you haven’t tried this amazingbrunchplace, please do! it’s also situated near lots of other amazing food joints (voro, kem coba, fairmount bagels) as it’s on fairmount and st laurent.

no doubt that lawrence is definitely one of the topbrunchspots in montreal and on my list. the restaurant is always packed with people on the weekends. i first visited in april with my mom, and i’ve fallen in love with this place, so i chose to celebrate my birthday here with my friends! (left) the menu; (top right) latte; (bottom right) early grey tea lawrence ‘s menu sometimes changes due to what’s fresh during the season or on the market, so you can check out their updates on their twitter . my mom ordered the latte when we visited in april, and i loved it. it was really smooth, and you can feel that the milk is really creamy and rich, but i’m afraid that i would feel full after that huge cup of latte, so i had the early grey tea instead, since it was also recommended by my friend! their early grey tea was pretty good! it doesn’t have the astringent taste, and the flavor is still there after few refills too! scone with jam and clotted cream i

the menu falls into the more traditional trappings ofbrunchbut with a strong british style. tea and coffee is served in traditional china cups and the classic british breakfast is a staple of the menu. however, i chose to go a different way.
