overpriced. i had heard such great things about lawrence, i decided to finally make an event of it and go with some friends. the place was packed. the service was wonderful overall. my boyfriend ordered the english breakfast which was quite good, but 16$ (with tax)?!?! it was definitely not worth that amount. i am not a fan of greasy corner joints, but you could have gotten the same meal at another decent place for 8$. i ordered the eggs and smoked salmon - way too much eggs and hardly no salmon (although it was good). 14$. just crazy. save your 40$ and go elsewhere.

brunch. the food was just really amazing, great taste. we got there at 0945 and there was already a small line up,

would be really nice if they had a terrace !

everything – from entrees to desert (except the espresso) – was turbo tasty and i’d find it hard to believe that there’s something on the menu that isn’t put together with immense passion and love for food. while the food is of high quality, the price per portion is also quite high and so you can expect to spend between 50-80$ per person for a complete meal. the high price though is not only justified by the great food but also by the great service. every waitress/waiter i encountered was eager to please and very welcoming. besides their cool hipster-esque outfits, they all had spunky attitudes and had great input on every dish on the menu – really the way service should be at a restaurant. on top of it all, their experienced sommelier etheliya hananova was very bubbly and helpful in matching the right wine for the right dish.

lawrence is a new addition to the plateau/mile end area with an interesting story to tell. it had its roots as being the kitchen staff from the sparrow which was one of the hottest brunch spots in the city.

i am admittedly a lover of many things british; british gardens, british vogue and british accents all top my list of truly wonderful things. such is the reason i was saddened to hear of the closing of sparrow, one of my favourite (english) brunch places in the city. happy i was, however, to later find that chef marc cohen and owner ethan willis simply displaced themselves closer to the st. laurent/fairmount intersection with lawrence , an adorable 40 seat restaurant that opened last december. like sparrow, lawrence serves brunch saturday and sundays to a long line up of locals. i recommend starting with their crumpets with butter ($3) or lemon doughnuts ($5 and sooo good) to share. follow with eggs royale ($15), pain dore with apples and cranberries, or their classic english breakfast ($16) plus some extra bubble and squeak on the side ($4). although i've only been to lawrence for their brunch, there seems to be plenty of buzz surrounding their lunch and dinner fare. one notoriously c
