kona grill - omaha

theserviceusually sucks. the food is mediocre. the beer selection sucks. the value and atmosphere is just ok. the menu is weird in that i don't know what kind of restaurant serves both sushi and flatbread. i don't know why this place is so popular because blue is leaps and bounds better than this place. no real reason to go here.

something for everyone. this place has something for everyone. it is far from just a sushi restaurant. although they do have a large selection of sushi, this restaurant also has more variety than almost any restaurant i've been to. this place has a very personableservicestaff, and an amazing atmosphere, no matter if you're looking for the bar scene or a nice romantic restaurant. also, they have an amazing happy hour which is available twice a day, six days a week. their most expensive appetizer on their happy hour menu is $5, and many of their appetizers are only $3. it is no wonder that this place was voted best happy hour in the "best of omaha" for the 4th year in a row. it is definitely worth your time to check this place out.

literally the worst bartendingservicei've received in town. bartenders drinking their own drinks playing with one another while people sit around waiting to even get a menu. 10 minutes to finally get a drink after ordering. just the worst.

the food here was good. sushi was average to good. i enjoyed the chicken and fish entrees. i have nothing negative to say besides theservicebeing a little slow. if your going out to relax and enjoy dinner then you shouldn't even notice. our waitress was nice and the atmosphere was a good mix of relaxing, family friendly and fun. the bar area keeps the fun going and their open air option in nice weather is great!

i ate here a few times back in 2005 or so. then i went a while without eating here and i recently stopped back in for dinner. i seem to remember it being better than it is now. perhaps its glory days are behind it.

food was decent. i tried their hawaiian ribeye which is listed on their menu as a signature (or favorite or whatever) item. it had a terrific flavor, but the meat itself was a bit chewy and, although ribeyes are typically heavily marbled, rather fatty. my wife sampled a couple of their kona rolls from their sushi menu and was pleased with them. the food here has always been good. it's sort of an asian fusion kind of thing and they have several items that put an asian spin of what are typically american favorites.

service was not good. i couldn't tell if was because they were understaffed (seemed to be a lot of employees moving around) or if the staff they had were just that bad. several tables around us (with different waitpersons) were experienceservicedelays too.

ambiance is off. i suppose it makes for a decent bar and happy hour experience, but for dinner it's just noisy and crowded and in a mostly bad sort of way.

at this price point i expect it to be better. they serve good food, butservicecould be greatly improved. it's a borderline "like" for me.

wow.... sushi was abominable. majority of fish in rolls was straight from a can,servicewas terrible (including management), and gyoza were slimy with bland sauce. ordered happy hour bottle of sake, which was advertised at 375 ml, got a bottle half the size. told the manager who explained that it is what they have always given customers, and that we were the first to notice (because false advertising is okay as long as no one complains!). overall the worst sushi i have experienced in an omaha restaurant, closer to day-old supermarket than true maki; go elsewhere.

very unhappy with service. today, i experienced the worstservicei have ever had in my life. i was at kona grill for a business luncheon, and a member of the wait staff spilled a plate of food right beside me. before leaving the restaurant, i noticed ketchup was splattered all over my $350 leather coat. after a very unpleasant conversation with the general manager, i was told the only solution they could offer was to pay for my dry cleaning bill. later i noticed ketchup was also on my leather purse. i have already contacted several cleaners and many of them will not even touch my items, because they are leather. the leather cleaning stores are doubtful my items can be recovered, since the ketchup has already soaked into the leather. i am very displeased with my experience, and will not be returning to kona grill.

badserviceand bad food. we went after happy hour thinking that it would be a little calmer but it wasn't. it wasn't our server's fault that it was busy but i do hold it against her that she didn't bother to ask us what we were eating after giving us our drinks. our order came out to us wrong but that isn't why we won't be back- we won't be back because for a place like this a simple burger should have tasted good. the meat tasted like it came from mcdonald's just juiced up to look like it was decent size and somehow there was a part of the outer perimeter that was pink when the rest of it was cooked o.o the sushi was small and the taste wasn't worth the money they charged. maybe this place is only good for drinks during happy hour (that everyone seems to rave about) because that was the only thing that i enjoyed.

always good. i love kona. i love their menu, their restaurant, and their sushi. yes, it's a chain, but definitely one of the better ones out there. i've never had an issue with anything i've eaten there, andservicehas always been good. i'll continue to eat there often.

during my last visit i started out with the seaweed salad. honest to god, i could eat this daily. the taste and texture of the dish is almost indescribable. the seaweed gives you a pleasant pop when biting down, and while it feels a tiny bit slimy to chew, that's pleasant as well. flavor is just great. please try this next time you're in. it's a simple, yummy, fresh way to start a meal. my table also ordered a starter of octopus sashimi. i'm simply not a fan of this dish, but the person eating it enjoyed it. our final plate was an order of standard california rolls and a spicy tuna roll. both were up to standards, especially the tuna. it was very fresh, and had the right amount of spice.

kona also has great happy hour specials, but go early because it fills up quickly. at village point, this has to be one of the better dining options.

keep going back. we found this spot on our first visit to omaha and seem to find ourselves back there everytime we visit. the food is fresh, theservicegood and the atmosphere is relaxing.

lobster & ahi flatbread is out of this world. the pan asian noodles are terrific with a spicy hoisin style sauce on udon noodles. (my new favorite asian startch)

i don't what everyone else's problem is. it's really good food for the price. the happy hour is very reasonable and is available in the afternoon and late at night. theserviceis what you would expect for $15-20 a plate, national chain restaurant. i gave eaten here many times and would say the only time theserviceis "bad", is due to understaffing and not necessarily bad waiters or bartenders.

so i read all the reviews and still came in here. in fact i'm sitting in kona as i write this and we've been waiting for our check for thirty minutes. wait the waiter just walked right by us and said nothing. this placesservicesucks! sorry about any typos as the damn table is woobky too!

shopping mall horror. i agree with the earlier post that this restaurant has no sex appeal whatsoever. the food is marginal and theserviceis way below expectations.

it's ok. i liked kona before, but now i think customerserviceis not that great to be honest. i want more fish in the sushi.
taste is not bad though. they also have nice happy hour everyday if you want to try this place. i like their huge onion ring. it's really huge!
