they want to be known for sensational flavors in their modern american cuisine from a scratch kitchen. but kona is also known for their huge sushi and sashimi menu from traditional rolls to kona rolls. when you arrive you are greeted at the hostess area, then around the corner is the bar area. it is a big center bar lined with stools, televisions, tables but many people want to sit on the backside which is an indoor patio that also has televisions. the patio area is indoor but the huge windows open up, which is popular place to hang out and have a few cocktails like a sake bomb. the bar area has an awesome happy hour that gets crazy busy…if you're not there by 4 p.m. on friday is it very hard to find a table. the night we were there t

very unhappy with service. today, i experienced the worst service i have ever had in my life. i was at kona grill for a business luncheon, and a member of the wait staff spilled a plate of food right beside me. before leaving the restaurant, i noticed ketchup was splattered all over my $350 leather coat. after a very unpleasant conversation with the general manager, i was told the only solution they could offer was to pay for my dry cleaning bill. later i noticed ketchup was also on my leather purse. i have already contacted several cleaners and many of them will not even touch my items, because they are leather. the leather cleaning stores are doubtful my items can be recovered, since the ketchup has already soaked into the leather. i am very displeased with my experience, and will not be returning to kona grill.

the only national chain to make this list, kona grill is easily one of omaha’s hottest happy hour spots deserving of mention here because as arduous as it may be to snag a seat here, it is worth the effort. the broad spectrum of menu offerings promises something for every palate and mood, from fiery shrimp rolls to crisp margarita flatbread pizza with tangy balsamic drizzle. well-developed dishes and bright, vibrant flavors compliment the lively climate. if you should find yourself lucky enough to have secured a seat here, be sure to sample the avocado egg rolls. and as your server delivers the check, go ahead and accept the bribe from that lurker around the corner.

not great. there is much better sushi in omaha. the restaurant tries to be everything to everybody and ends up being mediocre at best. the flatbread was the only thing at the table that got any kudos.

mediocre at best. we tried this place on the recommendation of a dear friend. when you walk in, you get the sour smell of old beer. we sat in the bar section because the restaurant was crowed! the flat screens are so loud you can barely hear your table partners. the servers may or may not notice you...make yourself known or you will not be attended. the food was okay but the atmosphere intolerable. never again.

good fish for the price. i love coming to kona for sushi. their plain tuna roll is my favorite menu item. the rolls are priced fairly for the amount you get, especially if you dont get any of the american specialty rolls and just stick to fish, rice, and seaweed. the seven spiced ahi was very good when we went and the atmosphere inside the restaurant is great for nightime, i do recommend, however, sitting outside in the patio area during the day, the inside seating can be quite dark.

bad service and bad food. we went after happy hour thinking that it would be a little calmer but it wasn't. it wasn't our server's fault that it was busy but i do hold it against her that she didn't bother to ask us what we were eating after giving us our drinks. our order came out to us wrong but that isn't why we won't be back- we won't be back because for a place like this a simple burger should have tasted good. the meat tasted like it came from mcdonald's just juiced up to look like it was decent size and somehow there was a part of the outer perimeter that was pink when the rest of it was cooked o.o the sushi was small and the taste wasn't worth the money they charged. maybe this place is only good for drinks during happy hour (that everyone seems to rave about) because that was the only thing that i enjoyed.

great happy hour. starts at 1 pm. good variety of quality items. had the spicy tuna roll, bama roll, calamari, pot stickers, and lettuce wraps. all were a great value and delicious.

happy hour. the best time to go to kona is for happy hour. the have it weekdays from 3-7 and you can can get some cheap(but good) drinks and they have a decent selection of food from the happy hour menu. i think they have a reverse happy hour on friday and saturday nights, but we haven't been to that. we like it in the afternoon because if you go early you can avoid the crowd and get seated right away. the staff is friendly and fast.

just ok.... i sit at the bar when i go there because none of my friends like kona. it was hugely popular when it opened - now it's really a fad that's faded. part of that is the attitude of the horrible servers. they have such snotty attitudes that they turn people off. the bartenders are worse. there is one that is just so into himself that he makes the experience uncomfortable. he should just sit himself in front of a mirror and stop bothering the customers. noone seems to listen as you give your order, because it never comes out right. extra ginger please. where is my ginger? no eel sauce please. why do i have eel sauce all over this plate? i mean really, can i just go back to the kitchen and tell the cooks what i want? it would be far easier. really, this place is just a big corporate disappointment.

overly priced for high school servers. pad thai was overly sweet, not flavorful and bland. my wife had a chicken sandwich that was ok, but not worth the 13 dollars we spent on it.
