in a nutshell: a seemingly crazy and simple idea of a dessert that's like a wider, shallower, tantalisingly savoury, cheesy creme brûlée with light soft crust! sold and served to you by good looking, bearded men with lively personalities!

i literally bumped into the foodtruckduring one of my rounds of the bay walk/run. and of course i stopped. you will too if you see this food truck!

we visited this foodtruck@ eq foodtruckjam. knafeh was our first and one of our only stops. i had heard of it. i wanted to experience it. i was intrigued. it was sweet yet salty, creme brûlée like, dessert but cheesy. it’s weird to explain but i want another one.

one of the best food experiences i have ever had. entertaining staff (singing and dancing, i guess a pre-requisite to the job) and quality food to boast.only downside to the singing and dancing part, the cue gets really long. yet, you just can't help but smile as these bearded bakers exude passion in what they are doing. they can get the crowd going. one of the things that stood out for me was the interior of their foodtruckexplained where the food originated.

the upbeat music and irresistible charm of the bearded blokes at the knafeh foodtruckattracts young and old alike. on this sunny saturday morning, they were delighting the early morning orange blossom festival goers.

then there's the knafeh. omg, where have you been all my life? sweet, creamy and slightly cheesy, with a crunchy top, crushed pistachios and drizzle of sweet sugar syrup, life is that much sweeter after experiencing this dessert. you also can't help but chuckle at the written messages they deliver with your knafeh as they call you up by name to collect your freshly made dessert. thanks for the food love!

this place has a massive culture around it and a huge fan base which comes with its own expectations; so a 40min wait in line wasnt too bad. however after trying this dessert, although silky and delicious - wasn't really my cup of tea. would eat again. but not if i had to wait. (p.s best foodtruckwait around - beats and humour)

love knafeh!!!!
i attended the eq foodtruckjam in sydney and the place was packed.
even though the line was long, it was definitely worth the wait. the music, the general ambience was really upbeat; and the enthusiastic staff made the time go by faster.
the knafeh itself was delicious, smooth and warm. not too sweet, not too cheesy - just right.
will definitely return in the future!

from the descriptions, i imagined knafeh to be a warm gooey dessert with a savoury cheese flavour (like haloumi or feta) balanced by a sweet syrup. but reality was a whole different beast. it actually tasted like an egg tart (the kind you get at yum cha) but with a softer, spoonable texture, no pastry shell and much much much sweeter (no, i didn't type that in three times by accident). there was also a bit of textural and flavour contrast from something (grain? bran?) that reminded me of weetbix. the crew really seemed to be enjoying themselves and they were pumping out some fun tunes on a friday night. impressive lines for a foodtruckthat has one thing on the menu. i'm happy i finally managed to try the knafeh but it's probably not something i'd go back for.

i frequent the knafehtrucklocations and have visited the dancing bearded bakers twice at doonside and once at rydalmere. i can't rate them high enough. service is quite fast and even on a cold night, you don't mind the wait. the bakers can keep you entertained for hours. i'm a people watcher so see the smiles on everyone's faces is a bonus. the energy is electric. as for the desserts themselves, i can't explain how delicious it is. it's like a custard type porridge topped with delicious syrup and flakes (like cornflakes). i've downed two servings in one sitting before. #nojudging

knafeh ($8) is a dessert that kind of reminds me of an asian egg tart except without a pastry layer, less sweet and with a crusty topping. quite tasty but not overly sweet either. tried them at a foodtruckevent so couldn't get the full "knafeh atmosphere" from it being a standalonetruckbut the staff are friendly and most of them just dance around/sing along to the music they pump out while baking.

addison road community centre april 10, 2015 by artacoeats good friday. wondering what's open and deciding where to eat. scrolling through instagram. "oi, knafeh is open tonight!" "done." for those who have no clue what i'm on about, knafeh bakery  is a foodtruckthat's been travelling around sydney, serving up dishes of traditional cheesy desserts soaked in sugar syrup. and this night they were parked in marrickville (which is kinda sorta local) so we headed down with empty stomachs in tow.   we arrive to the site where there's a sitting area with crates and makeshift tables, which would be an excellent ghetto-tastic space to enjoy your knafeh. if it weren't raining. nevertheless we ordered and were treated to a show when our bearded bakers jived to michael jackson. hilarious. #dessertandashow

there's a new wave of food trucks trundling around sydney and i'm excited. and hungry.  this next generation are focussed on doing one or two things only. and doing them well. sydneysiders can't get enough of them. take mister gee burger truck. they do one burger. fries. and one type of shake. who needs to fuss with endless menu variations? they first propped open their shutter on november 5 but have already gathered a legion of burger-loving fans in just six weeks. mister gee burgertruckat burwood deluxe car wash mister gee has one thing going for it. a semi-permanent location - for the moment anyway. when burwood deluxe car wash finishes up for the day, mister gee moves in. they currently set up every wednesday, thursday, friday and saturday night. mister gee burgertruckmenu (the burger changes regularly) we turn up at 6.50pm to find a queue of twenty people already perched on milk crates set up in front of the truck. at 7.07pm the shutter opens and the crowd forms an orderly queue. it's predominantly a young crowd - in their teens to thirties. noone pushes in. fries being sauced the team on thetruckis lean: one taking orders and making milkshakes; one on french fries and one burger master flipping patties. prepping burgers the kitchen is slammed from the start but they don't appear fazed at all. meanwhile everyone sits back, chats and waits for their order to be called. dirty fries  $5 our dirty fries are ready first. it's a mountain of golden fries covered in diced tomato, grated cheese and lashings of a thousand island-style cream. they give you a fork to dig in but we have more fun using our fingers. fat boy with ba
