horribly overrated. steak on a plate. ambiance is likened to a hotel banquet area. sides were decent but not outstanding and price was high. at a high end steak house, the steak should melt in your mouth. and if you have to pay extra for anything else, then a steak on a plate by itself be the best you have ever had - and it was not.

four dinners all horrible. dinner tonight for four. rack of lamb, salmon, medallions with bernaise and a filet mignon. the first three were about 2-3 stars out of ten. they were extremely salty, the rack of lamb was suppose to be medium and was well done. worst meal ever, and they are so pretentious. will never return there...save your money...

hh l d. my order of enjoyment: happy hour, lunch then dinner. fried gnocchi with truffle creme sauce is crazy. their burger is great (wife says best in seattle). drinks are off the hook, especially the spicy pear kamikaze and the provincial goose (lavender martini).

salt, salt, and more salt!. had the copper river king last night thinking the quality would be as good as they say seastar is....not impressed...and more salt did'nt help. last time i had the sole...same story. just go for the happy hour if you dont want to be disapointed...and yes i've had the steak... but at these prices...still not impressed!

our waiter, treated us very well throughout the meal - making sure we didn't have any food allergies and asking if we were celebrating anything. fried gnocchi with truffle creme sauce is crazy. their burger is great. drinks are off the hook, especially the spicy pear kamikaze and the provincial goose. overall, if you have the money to spend, enjoy yourselves at john howie steak!

went here for a late night happy hour with a friend last month.   outstanding food with excellent service in a nice atmosphere.  we had the porter beer, tuna appetizer - which was fantastic, caesar salad and the cheeseburger.  the food was outstanding and done perfectly  (tuna and burger).

pretty people and deep fried bacon!

i think, like daniel's, there are some respectable hh choices to be made here.   we had some crostini and the bacon, of course.   fries made it to our table, as well.

cocktails were crisp and well made.   we were seated at a tiny table by the window, which allowed for some people watching but it wasn't that comfy.   but there weren't a ton of places to sit.   hh is pretty pops.

great food, i just can't resolve the prices. staff is friendly, and i usually sit at the bar. i've only tried the variation of the "juicy lucy" burger, and something with truffle mayo or whatnot, and both were addictive. it's just that the habit would be way too expensive, so it's best to keep this recreational.

i usually go to the bellevue location for late night happy hour.  great prime tenderloin bites and bone marrow.  goes great with a glass of good red wine!  wife loves the spicy habanero butter shrimp.  food is a 5.0.  finding a seat during happy hour is painful since the bar area is small.  that's the one big reason to give this place a 4.0 and not 5.0.

welcome back to carnivore’s dilemma, a column that features recommendations on how to prepare and where to eat meat from seattle chefs that venture well beyond steak and burgers. when you think of cities like new york or chicago, old-school steakhouses quickly come to mind. the deep, dark, wood-paneled interiors are reminiscent of decadent meals and the likes of al capone. and while seattle sports a few good meat-centric restaurants, it’s still hard to beat legends like brooklyn’s peter luger’s and chi-town’s gibson’s.

great food, horrible service.

first of all, i'm convinced this place is a little racist. the back corner had 5 tables. every table in that corner had mainland asians sitting at it. there were no other asians at other tables in the restaurant.

the maître d was by far the highlight of the night. his whole demeanor was negative and ruined the whole night for me. he was very rude, terse, and pushy. he kept emphasizing that the filet and salmon didn't come with any sides and kept trying to push us to order more when we didn't want more because we had a late lunch. i almost stopped him and yelled "i know how to read a menu" but refrained and decided to be the better person. when we told him that we would be sharing a bowl of chowder he kept asking how we were going to share that and i felt pressured to order two. i don't know if he thought we couldn't afford the place or decided to treat us horribly because we weren't ordering that much but either way, it wasn't appropriate.

after we were served, nobody else came by our table and asked how the food was. the bus boy eventually came by the table and asked if we would like the dessert menu but by then we were ready to get out so we just paid the check and left.
horrible experience. i was actually looking forward to our dinner here because my boyfriend comes here for lunch all of the time and he only had good things to say but after this experience neither of us will be patrons of john howie again.

will not go back. this was a dinner to celebrate my grandson's birthday and the bill was over $900.00, we did not have a dinner worth the money and unless you order steak, don't expect your food to be hot. i did not want steak and ordered the grilled cheese sandwich and my son in law and grandson ordered the hamburger. my sandwich and soup were cold and i was not able to eat it. my grandson's bun was burnt and the food was also cold. we also had too wait over 45 minutes to receive the appetizers then another 45 minutes for the salad and another 45 minutes for the main course for a total of 2 hours and 25 minutes waiting for food, which to me is too long. the waiter we had did a very good job but everything else was a disappointment.
