it’s tough for me to give a 5 out of 5 but this was really darn close. everything was really good and the service was excellent. the restaurant is nice inside. we had a rather loud table dining next to us which was a little bit of a distraction but our server explained to us that “the loud guy” was the man that provides john howie with all the steaks for the restaurant. it was nice of him to give us that information, making the noise a little bit more justifiable. i would definitely go back to john howie and try the other sides and other cuts of beef. their lunch menu looks really good and apparently they have a great happy hour menu as well.

like this place but.... john howie's is really a hit or miss. i've been there about 8 or so times and every time the service and food has been inconsistent. i've ate both in the bar and the restaurant. had an amazing experience with my last filet but have had mixed experiences in the past with their happy hour specials being overcooked. i'd say if you had a horrible experience in the past, give it another try.

but i really wanted to complain because my steak was too expensive: at john howie steakhouse you can order combinations: diners can choose two four-ounce portions of different kinds of steak. $55 got us one each of an american wagyu filet

surprise!. decided to "splurge" and go to john howie for lunch and much to our surprise, the lunch menu is incredible and delicious! i got the sandwich and soup combination - smoked turkey sandwich and the french onion soup. both were healthy portions (they almost needed to roll me out) and delicious!

while this is the first ‘steak house’ i’ve been to in seattle, i thought it was quite good, and i would definitely return when the steak craving hits.

surprise!. sophisticated, but incredibly expensive! i shouldn't have been surprised, but if a steak costs more than $50, i'm out of my budget range! the food is very well prepared. i really enjoyed the caesar salad, made from scratch directly at our table. the filet mignon was cooked to perfection and the five cheese baked potato makes my mouth water even now. beware the dessert menu! they are sinfully delicious and just as sinfully priced! overall, if you have the money to spend, enjoy yourselves at john howie steak! otherwise, consider paying your bills instead. =)

what impressed me though, was the small slice of sirloin. it had a nice sear on the outside and a touch of redness in the middle for a juicy bite.

overrated and underserved. we had dinner this week at john howie steak and we were really disappointed. the calamari appetizer was greasy and overpriced but the real issue was that it took over 45 minutes to bring our entrees. terrible and the waiter apologizing every 10 minutes didn't really help. is the kitchen that inefficient or did they lose our order? we'll never know. we watched other people be seated, order and leave before we ever saw our dinner which was only passable. i couldn't even finish my chicken- i was beyond hungry at that point and just wanted to go home. they offered free dessert but it was too little to late . eventually they compt'd us the appetizer but we won't be back; its too much money to risk being treated that way again.

horrible experience!!. complete dissapointment!! we went to jh for my husbands 35th birthday, total of 5 people! we got sat at our table and this is when the nightmare started!! i could probably write 5 pages of negative but instead i will give you the quick version. we waited 20 minutes before our server even acknowledged us at the table, another 15 minutes before she took our drink order, about 25 minutes before she brought back our drinks and tried to walk away without even asking us if we wanted apps or dinner for that matter....i hope they didn't have an yummy specials because we never heard them...i had to get snotty with her just so she would take our order. she never brought out the table side ceasar salad...we waited another 40 minutes from apps to dinner...without a refill on a soda and i again had to flag her down to order more cocktails!! we had to flag another person down for horseradish sauce and to possiblly turn the air conditioning down!! i finally made a comment to one of the table captains and thats when the sudo ass kissing started. the server never apologized for the horrible service, the table captain took off a round of drinks and dessert off our bill. he then proceeded to give us a "coupon" for free salad the next time we came in. we won't be back for the next time!! we only went to bellevue for this experience, we live in seattle. next time we will take our $500 dollar dinner to canlis or el gaucho...we know we will always get amazing service there!!

the servers name is deborah, the table captain is matt. perhaps if you go to jh for dinner make sure you don't sit in deborahs section.

john howie, owner of seastar, also owns john howie steak, where he's perfecting the art of cooking yet another type of animal. while "steak" is in the restaurant's name, there was another reason i recently went to steak. a very good friend of mine, adam, entered and won a contest to name executive chef mark hipkiss's new burger. the new burger, aptly named the "kiss your hips goodbye" burger has faced some criticism . criticism aside, i can barely describe how excited i was

jhs is huge. it just keeps going & going. and going. but finally we were nestled into a little corner table out of the way except for a rather nosey bunch of noisy suited types sharing our little alcove. they were fascinated that i was making images of the food. i am not sure why…the food was beautiful.
