horribly overrated.steakon a plate. ambiance is likened to a hotel banquet area. sides were decent but not outstanding and price was high. at a high endsteakhouse, thesteakshould melt in your mouth. and if you have to pay extra for anything else, then asteakon a plate by itself be the best you have ever had - and it was not.

welcome back to carnivore’s dilemma, a column that features recommendations on how to prepare and where to eat meat from seattle chefs that venture well beyondsteakand burgers. when you think of cities like new york or chicago, old-school steakhouses quickly come to mind. the deep, dark, wood-paneled interiors are reminiscent of decadent meals and the likes of al capone. and while seattle sports a few good meat-centric restaurants, it’s still hard to beat legends like brooklyn’s peter luger’s and chi-town’s gibson’s.

will not go back. this was a dinner to celebrate my grandson's birthday and the bill was over $900.00, we did not have a dinner worth the money and unless you order steak, don't expect your food to be hot. i did not wantsteakand ordered the grilled cheese sandwich and my son in law and grandson ordered the hamburger. my sandwich and soup were cold and i was not able to eat it. my grandson's bun was burnt and the food was also cold. we also had too wait over 45 minutes to receive the appetizers then another 45 minutes for the salad and another 45 minutes for the main course for a total of 2 hours and 25 minutes waiting for food, which to me is too long. the waiter we had did a very good job but everything else was a disappointment.

we came on a saturday night, made reservations still had to wait 25 minutes for a table. then we got a horrible server, who could not even take the time to explain the menu,we asked about the difference in the steaks that they offered but apparently he was too busy to really explain them to us. them we asked about the meals for 2, he said they bring the meat to the table and that's it. he didn't offer to tell us about any appetizers or if thier is a signature salad, etc.he didn't even offer a differentsteakselection of after i ordered a 3oz filet and my spouse ordered chicken. i think that if you are going to a 4 star restaurant that a waiter needs to tell you about the restaurant considering it was our first time. i did speak to a manager who told our food wad going to be taken care of after the had paid. still waiting for it to be returned to our card. and i was told the general manager was going to call me today, still waiting for that call. i guess i should have written this review earlier, but better late than never. so let's see if i get a response now.

jhs has the upscale steakhouse vibe happening with elegant booths, classy service, and fabulous food for the deeper-pocketed crowd. chef john howie offers a wide variety of highest qualitysteak(be sure to check the display case at the entrance to the restaurant). we enjoyed a study in contrast between a 4-ounce japanese a5 wagyu filet mignon and a 16-ounce american wagyu eye of the rib eye. (see the slideshow above for mouthwatering photos.)

john howiesteakis located in ‘the bravern’, an upscale mall in bellevue, washington, just a short drive from seattle. after walking past hermès, louie vuitton, and neiman marcus, i started to get the sense that we were in for a treat…was i ever right! as we walked through the restaurant, i took note of the many different seating areas. the restaurant was warm and inviting in addition to being private and quiet. i love to eat in a place where you can carry on a conversation and actually hear each other speak! our group was escorted into one of the beautiful private dining rooms. when we sat down at the table and read the menu i heard audible gasps…but those might have just been coming from me. if you look over the menu below, you will understand my excitement.

but i really wanted to complain because mysteakwas too expensive: at john howie steakhouse you can order combinations: diners can choose two four-ounce portions of different kinds of steak. $55 got us one each of an american wagyu filet

while this is the first ‘steak house’ i’ve been to in seattle, i thought it was quite good, and i would definitely return when thesteakcraving hits.

surprise!. sophisticated, but incredibly expensive! i shouldn't have been surprised, but if asteakcosts more than $50, i'm out of my budget range! the food is very well prepared. i really enjoyed the caesar salad, made from scratch directly at our table. the filet mignon was cooked to perfection and the five cheese baked potato makes my mouth water even now. beware the dessert menu! they are sinfully delicious and just as sinfully priced! overall, if you have the money to spend, enjoy yourselves at john howie steak! otherwise, consider paying your bills instead. =)

overrated and underserved. we had dinner this week at john howiesteakand we were really disappointed. the calamari appetizer was greasy and overpriced but the real issue was that it took over 45 minutes to bring our entrees. terrible and the waiter apologizing every 10 minutes didn't really help. is the kitchen that inefficient or did they lose our order? we'll never know. we watched other people be seated, order and leave before we ever saw our dinner which was only passable. i couldn't even finish my chicken- i was beyond hungry at that point and just wanted to go home. they offered free dessert but it was too little to late . eventually they compt'd us the appetizer but we won't be back; its too much money to risk being treated that way again.

the guy we blame is mark hipkiss. according to the emroidery on his white coat, he's executive chef of john howiesteak, the culinary pride of bellevue's tony bravern complex. chef hipkiss was apparently not content serving dainty deviled eggs alongside

amazing happy hour food deals!. i recently stopped in at john howie's bar for happy hour with some friends and might have found my new fav on the eastside. the discount price appetizers on the happy hour menu are amazing to say the least. we tried tempura king crab & asparagus, tempura fried kurobuta bacon, bacon cheeseburger, and spicy habenero butter shrimp shared amongst the four of us. the bacon and king crab are worth the price of admission alone! i'm looking forward to going back forsteakdinner very soon.

not worth it.... well, the wife and i went back to this restaurant after not being happy with things the first time, we wanted to give them a second chance... so this is an updated review.

again.....the ambience was great, wait staff knowledgeable and friendly, but that is really where it stopped for us.

a lesson from the first time around, order your steaks with less seasoning if you don't want it to taste overly salty, we did this and the steaks were brought out as ordered and were very good.

now onto the not so good...

we ordered the mac and cheese and asparagus on this side. the mac and cheese had a great flavor, would have been amazing if it were hot! asparagus, the same way, not hot!

ordered the table-side caesar, we talked with the person making it about how we really loved anchovies in the salad, we ate the salad and noticed not a single anchovy to be found...

so, disappointed yet again. we aren't food snobs, but i know what a good meal is, and at best this meal was decent. for the money we spent it should be phenomenal, how do you spend $200 for a meal and not get your food hot? it's inexcusable and there are better places to eat if you are going to drop that kind of money.

sorry john, we really wanted this to be great the second time through and it was just average.

i will say going for lunch or happy hour, the burgers are excellent, but i won't be ordering asteakor a full dinner again...
