jocko's steak house

wow. this place is surely different. first of all, they serve you salsa with crackers and different pickled veggies. the bar is the first thing you see when you walk in and it is dark and old school. when i eat here i feel like i am eating in the 1940s. it's different very unattractive building but of course the steaks are perfect and the prices are great as well. had the spencer steak and it was great. liked it more than the new york which i normally get. crazy place with awesome steaks.

good old fashion grass feed beef!. i lived within 60 miles of the restaurant for about 25 years. i now live in utah and i miss jocko's so much! i've taken dates there, buddies, family and celebrated my parents wedding anniversary (50th) there. you will not get the kid glove waitress treatment ( hey! your family and the waitress's are busting one to serve a packed house!) seriously, best meat and open fire cooking...best of the west...north, south, east...

outstanding service, quality, and value. a must try for anyone with a taste for big portions and excellent preparations.

amazing steak, service wasn't so bright, decor was terrible but i would go again. probably just an off night.

i was taken to this restaurant by a local resident that has gone here for years. enjoyed my small spencer steak that was huge. i am glad i did not order the large portion. the place was packed but i was told this was normal. service was suspect but ok. steak and potatoe were very good and i thought the prices were good for the portions you get.

outstanding steak!. nothing fancy, but jocko's has the best steak in the area; i highly recommend the filet! unless you're a big eater, recommend you share a steak and order the additional side dishes for $7. make sure you make a reservation, as it's a long wait for dinner walk-ins.

great place. do not let the appearance fool you. this place is awesome. you can expect at least a 45 minute wait even if you come early. the steak is one of the best i have ever had....

on vacation in california and stopped in, best place i’ve eaten in years. the steak and lamb both killer good. great service. huge portions. highly recommend this place.

my son michael took my wife clemencia and i to jocko's steakhouse and at first i wasn't too sure since i saw all the long tables that reminded me of some basque food i used to enjoy in bakersfield.(a good memory ) anyways,i ordered the filet mignon,my wife and son ordered the new york steak dinners. "we" have to say--this was the best  and greatest steak dinners we have had anywhere !!! wow !! awesome steaks. melted in our mouths.  we also had some wine which complimented our meals.the relish tray was very good as were the dinner salads. all in all--a 5 rating from us !! we are sure to return--very soon   gizgaz of lompoc california

while living in north dakota, i would dream about our yearly visit to see family and hit jocko's. for the entire 2,100 mile drive, it seemed for ever. the only bad thing was at the end of the meal, i knew it would be another year before i would get to enjoy another great steak. the absolute best place. the food is out of this world. i have recommended this place to everybody i came in contact with. i have told them that they don't want to miss jocko's when they are out in california. i frequent mainly high end restaurants, and jocko's is by far the best.

what a shame.  i have come to jocko's for 45+ years.  recently returning to the area for a visit, jocko's was on my must go to list.  grabbing high school friends, off we went.  i ordered what i had for decades, the small spencer steak, medium well.  one friend had the linguica and two others the large steak sandwich.  
when the food finally arrived ( a good 45 minutes after ordering )  i could immediately see this steak looked far different then in years past.  never before had it have a sliver of fat and this was large, but not in a good way.  worst yet, the steak knife i had forgo before, was not only necessary this time out, but worthless as the steak was not only tough, but rare, very rare.  my friends linguica was the dimensions of a penny.  the two steak sandwiches were barely touched.  
service was not up to par with the high prices.  what a shame to wait such a long time to revisit a once local favorite, only to be disappointed and embarrassed to have insisted to the others to go there in the 1st place.  sorry jocko's, no one will be "follow me to jocko's" again.

jockos is an old time ranchers eatery, come here for big steaks cooked over red oak the santa maria way. cafe style dining room and simple sides.

the very best in the world. we have been going to jocko's for 29 years!!!! it is the very best spencer you can find. you need a impossible permit to get in orange county to cook over open flame with oak wood. there is none finer.

filet mignon. a great cut of meat, could have used a little extra seasoning. are the leftovers cold the next day and it tasted even better!

the food was good, but we were way more impressed with the hitching post. we had reservations and were still there nearly 3 hours! the staff barely paid attention to us and the noise level is insane. the portions are huge though!
