hands down favourite sushi place! i’ve visited here multiple times and their spicy miso soup is to die for! for the best experience, i highly recommend coming with a friend or group and getting multiple plates to share - jizo has so many different flavours to offer. the dragon roll, salmon with avo and cream cheese roll and sashimi are my faves. the atmosphere is chill,serviceis friendly and this place is usually pretty busy so definitely book if you’re wanting to go for a special event!

delicious meal! usually i get food envy at places... but my katsu chicken curry was delicious! i rate mt experience at 3 because... i don't like how we had to line up in a loooong line and wait at the counter to order - feels like i'm at macdonald or kfc getting fast food! it was squishy and the waitress had to keep asking to excuse past us.. so really ur expected to stand in single file.. which isn't ideal when u want to talk to ur friend. i think for such a popular restaurant they should sort the waitress/servers out so the whole dining experience is in harmony with the actual food. when i requested for my curry to be very spicey when i made my order.. they didn't seem happy and acted as if it was an impossible request. however, other than theserviceissues i thought my food was fantastic. i also discovered when back at the table that there is spice shakers. .. which.. i guess they could have pointed out when i asked my meal to be spicey. i will return again - not for special occasions but just for a casual meal. the price was reasonable and the food was delish.

always good food but even with the new restaurant extensionserviceis still very slow and large lines waiting to order with only one till open.

i really like going to jizo. fairly authentic setting and food. the menu could be broader, but there are enough choices -- both safe and daring -- to satisfy. the cooking is great and theserviceis friendly. highly recommended.

the food is good, but theserviceis so poor and they don't really care.
1. was waiting for a table, one waitress said we could have the next table, but then gave it to someone else.
2. instead of taking orders at the table they make you line up like some cattle factory. would be about 10 people lining up, one waitress taking orders while the head waitress folded napkins...please, why not take the orders at the table when so hectic or have two people on. going out for dinner is about the experience not just the food.
3. wait for it... the head waitress used the same cloth to wipe down the chair seats as the table..yuck!

we eat out for lunch every friday, our group ranges from 3 to 9 people and we try to go somewhere new each week. we have 3 rules: 1. has to be in walking distance. 2. $15 per head limit. 3.can't take longer than an hour.

we enjoyed our lunch at jizo! it was very busy, but as only 4 of us went it was easy to get a seat, if our group would have been any bigger we would not have been able to sit together or we would have had to go else where.

theservicewas good and we got our food quickly. the place was clean and tidy and the staff were very attentive. we will go back again one day i am sure.

went to jizo cafe to have a nice meal with my wife as we often do. but upon arrival we found it was busy and we were asked to wait which is fair enough. after waiting for a while another group of 3 came in and an asian lady (who looked like the manager) approached them and seated them first. we talked to her and asked why we were not seated first. she said that we had to wait for the smallest table to clear because there were only the two of us, also it was very hard to understand her due to poor english. after another 10 minutes we were finally seated. the food was excellent but this kind ofserviceis appalling.

this restaurant is fabulous. it has a wide range of meals; sushi, sashimi, teriyaki, udon, tempura the works, all available with fish, meat or tofu, and always with vegetables or a special salad. theserviceis spectacular, and the prices are more than reasonable.

in my opinion, its most noteworthy aspect is its year-round supply of a-grade tuna sashimi - the price is the same all year-round, and it is always exquisitely prepared. another favourite dish of mine is the seaweed and shrimp salad. it has a range of different fresh and delicious seaweeds, juicy shrimp, cucumber, lettuce, carrot, capsicum on occasion, and two dressings - and all for less than $9.

jizo also has a range of japanese and new zealand beers, sake by the bottle or the carafe, and a great atmosphere and interior design.

i recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting dunedin as well as locals, and frequent it myself regularly - always good!
