ishka restaurant at the breakwater

overpriced and not impressive. had a meal at this restaurant recently and was served a raw lamb dish
service was good and meal was deducted from bill but generally overpriced and not very good!

expensive and very underwhelming. we went to this restaurant in a family party of ten last saturday. the booking had been made several weeks prior. when another family member had made the reservation based on a special offer and confirmed the date, she was not advised that offer would not be current for the date of our booking. she was only advised this when we were finally all seated at the table and with two elderly family members in our party, one of them diabetic we really did not have the choice of relocating elsewhere to eat once all ten people had arrived. two members of our party were running a little late, even so, the table had not been set and we all had to wait until a staff member saw fit to rectify this. we had been sitting waiting about fifteen minutes at this stage. the restaurant was almost empty, so it is not as if they were rushed off their feet. we were not met upon arrival and had to search where other members of our party were sitting. the service was average. nothing poor but not outstanding. the food while nicely cooked, was very expensive for what it was. the main course servings were small with even sparser garnish. there were no separate salads on the menu to choose from. the male members of our party, all six of them left the restaurant still feeling hungry. the view is nice, yes but not worth $40 for a small serve of food. the atmosphere was average to ordinary. the only outstanding things about this restaurant are the view and the prices. we were disappointed and underwhelmed. there are better restaurants in perth that serve equal if not better quality food, do not charge these prices, have a great atmosphere and make you feel very welcome. if we have a choice, we will not be going back to this posh pub cafe.

very good food but far too noisy for anyone over 40 on a saturday night for dinner. 4 of us went for dinner on a saturday night at 7.30pm and all had really good food - barramundi, trout, duck and risotto were all excellent. we also enjoyed the breakwater cabernet merlot, one of the cheaper bottles of wine at $40 but a fairly good drop. however, the noise from the bar below was really loud. there is also another bar upstairs across from the restaurant but most of the noise came from the bar area below which was open to the restaurant area above. i could not hear my friend sitting to the left of me. we did not have entrees because we planned then to go to a quieter place for dessert and coffee. by the time we had had our main course i was really ready to leave. this is a shame because it has good surroundings and serves excellent food.

incredibly rude and incompetent. my best friend was visiting perth for a few days so i decided to treat her to a special dinner at ishka. i rang and made a booking for 8pm that night. i gave my name and number and double checked everything.my husband and i had been there for lunch a few months before and thought it had been nice so i was excited about taking my best bud there for a great night out. we got there at 8pm and was told it was fully booked and there was no record of my reservation. i asked them to check their bookings and nothing. i even asked if there was another restaurant in perth with the same name, in case i had rung the wrong 'ishka' and no there isn't. i even showed them the number i had called on my phone and it was theirs. a woman who looked like the manager came over and confirmed there was no record of my reservation. the woman looked and spoke to me as if i were a total idiot, however i remained very polite and said that wasn't a problem as i didn't want to spoil the evening for my best friend who i hadn't seen in a long time. i was offered no apology whatsoever. we were told to wait at the lounge until a table came up. so that's what we did. we had so much to catch up on that before we knew it over an hour had gone by and we were still chatting.....but no table had been made available. i went over to check and noticed there were plenty of tables available! so i approached the woman and told her we had been waiting. she responded as if she didn't know who i was! we sat down and had mediocre meals. i am so disappointed at how incompetent the reservation system and the staff was. moreso i was disappointed at how i was treated. i was so co-operative and polite to them and they treated me so badly after what had been a mistake on their part. no apology, no smiles, no complimentary anything for having made us wait so so long and for treating us so rudely. i will never be back and i will tell my friends and colleagues to go to places like mia cucina where the food is excellent and the views sublime, rather than ishka where you are treated badly and the food is extremely overpriced.

3rd time unlucky. last night was our 3rd visit to ishka. previous experiences were positive but last night not so.
we had pork belly and chicken breast. both were bland and the chicken dry and without any sauce.
certainly not worth the money and really with such a limited menu surely it's not that hard to get it right.
like others say they push hard with drinks.
won't be getting my money again.

what - no brandy?. four of us including a couple visiting from sydney had a booking at ishka last night. my wife only drinks brandy, but there was none available and they don't stock it because not many people ask for it. i thought that if just one person asked for it that they may consider adding a bottle to the approximate 60? bottles of other spirits on the bar wall. our sydney visitor cancelled the booking and was rudely treated by the maitre de, who then insisted that we didn't have a booking anyway, despite me saying that i had received a call from the restaurant during the afternoon confirming our booking. he then reluctantly told us that the booking was cancelled. we ended up at mia cucina which was a an excellent experience (great brandy) with a spend of just under $400 which ishka missed out on for the sake of a $30.00 bottle of spirits. our sydney visitor was astonished that a licensed restaurant of this class did not serve brandy. oh well, we won't be going back .

we came here last thursday for our anniversary dinner, the atmosphere was lovely, the staff were attentive and the food was delicious. with that being said i noticed that some things were missing from each plate that we ordered that was on the menu. slow roasted pork belly had a vegetable terrine missing, the duck had kale missing and our molten chocolate cake with ice cream had no balsamic and caramel reduction glaze... even though those things were missing the food was great and we will go back.

overpriced and left dissappointed. we went as a table of 8 and 5 had tiny portions that didn't touch the sides. for $40 i really expected my food to full me up an satisfy me. instead we left wanting more and heading out for somewhere else to eat. we didn't even bother looking at deserts as they had already lost our trust. sad really, if we had a good main we would have ordered more and spent more. instead we couldn't wait to leave and it spoilt the birthday dinner. we will not be returning.

i've been here a few times now and am always impressed. my partner and i took my mum here recently while she was visiting from the uk and we were seated on a table on the balcony overlooking the water, which was lovely. the food as always was outstanding and our waiter (i think his name was lewis) was excellent, so friendly and efficient - as are all the staff. thanks ishka for making the night special for my mum! will be back soon for another night of deliciousness :)

great restaurant. my boyfriend and i dined here last night, despite the breakwater being our local this is the first time we've been to ishka, but it definitely won't be the last time! the scallops were perfection, the fish of the day (gold band snapper) was so fresh and delicious and our waitress was lovely! the music from the bar downstairs is quite loud but i don't think it spoils the ambience, it's also quite expensive but i guess you get what you pay for. looking forward to taking my mum here next year when she visits from the uk :)

beautiful dinner @ ishka's. my friend and i had dinner at ishka's on saturday night and i wanted to say what a beautiful place it is, service was fantastic and the food was absolutely gorgeous. i was a bit apprehensive at first as i had read some other reviews prior to going there, but must say we were extremely happy. will definitely go back again.

overpriced, average food, and definitely will not be going back. most disappointing was that they were serving orange roughy (an overfished, conservation-dependent species that is a do-not-eat) as a special of the day. what a waste of time and money. do not go.

found ishka completely by accident while looking for a place to take my parents who live overseas. blown away! we had no booking but were very graciously accommodated even on a very busy evening. amazing service by a fantastic waiter & above average food (for perth). reasonable price for the standard & experience. will definitely be back.

wishes it was fine dining. we had a birthday celebration here mid week, so the restaurant was not too busy. due to this fact, service was terrible, and it may have been that they were understaffed. i had to catch the waitresses eye on several occasions to be served. as far as the food goes, it was good but i wouldn't classify it as fine dining. as one other reviewer stated, it's cafe dining but with fine dining prices. i ordered a black angus steak which was very nice, but the plate was lacking any resemblance to what one would expect at a fine dining restaurant. i'm glad i tried this place, but i will struggle to talk it up to anyone.

top drawer. been there several times and will definately be back food and service is excellent. way better than may equally priced places in the area.

don't waste your time and money. what an appalling restaurant. sent our plates back three times for it still to arrive cold. i received the wrong meal and had to wait over twenty minutes whilst my companions finished there meals and the staff could not care less. seems like a tourist trap as staff have the worst attitude i have encountered.
