despite reading all the negative reviews my partner and i still decided to come and dine here and we were more than happy with the food and service. having a number of dietary requirements eating out can be difficult however the staff were more than accommodating to my needs. we ordered the seafood plate as an entree, and had the barramundi and the special of thenightwhich was the baked veal. we also ordered a couple of sides. food was cooked perfectly and couldn't fault anything. it can get quite noisy from the bar downstairs so if you want a quiet place to dine maybe don't go there but we enjoyed the atmosphere. will definitely go back again.

great atmosphere, lovely food, service good at first. went for our anniversary, service was good early but when it got busy thought they were a bit unattentive, they could have sold another bottle of wine if they'd asked. scallops were gorgeous, crispy skin barramundi was cooked to perfection and we thought the bit of noise down stairs added to the atmosphere, although it wasn't a busynightat the breakwater. the view is fabulous. the overrall menu is pricey but when you receive quality you don't tend to mind as much. the drinks were also overpriced but then that is perth in general.

i would like to say that i enjoyed my experience tonight but unfortunately the service went missing. we had to wait easily 15 minutes just to order a drink, unfortunately the waitress didn’t know how to use the ordering tablet and didn’t know the difference between a cider and a cocktail. once we got our drinks orders a different waitress came to take our food order and after that all service that we had waited for disappeared. once we had finished our first round of drinks we had to ask a staff member for the drinks menu so we could order another drink, yet again we had to wait for our order to be taken. only after our meals had arrived we had to ask again for our drinks to be ordered. by the time our drinks arrived we had just about finished our meals. the worst part of thenightwas that is was my daughters 18th birthday and i convinced her to go to ishka over cocoa’s as the last time i went to ishka the service was brilliant. you have dropped the ball and i will have to think twice about going again.

not awful ........... but,
the wife's birthday so went to ishka as its a bit special, well, usually it is.
something has changed, not for the better, i feel the quality of the ingredients are not as good as they used to be. starters was over seasoned and a weird textured fish was being passed off as salmon, i am pretty certain it was not. my steak was tough, the wife's chicken was bland, we didn't chance desert. i think it may have been the chefsnightoff perhaps.
to conclude, i will give it another go, but if it hasn't improved, i will not bother beyond that. i really could do better at home.

having grown up just down the road from hillarys marina in the northern suburbs of perth, i spent a lot of time at the original, irish themed breakwater tavern. back in the day, it was the local hotspot for a cracking wednesdaynightsession, terrible fridaynightkaraoke and a great spot to enjoy the vibe of the relaxed marina. (it is also the place where i met my future husband as we worked the bar together, but that’s another story!)

we went for a birthday celebration,it was really stuffy everyone was hot and no air con the wait for food between courses was abysmal, everyone was ready to go home and falling asleep at the empty table by the time the cake finally came out and i had to go and ask how much longer it would be. ruined thenightand my birthday. we were not even offered coffee or desert menu, some of our party had to go to the bar and get their own drinks, no ingredients available for a bellini  non attentive waiters. food was okish, though my chicken dish looked very unappetising and bland it tasted ok, view was fantastic. also had to make a point of asking for the remaining cake as they had only used one third, it was not offered to us. they need to up their service game.

the loudest restaurant we've ever been too. extremely hard to hear others at the table due to thenightclub below. food was average and the size of the servings were small. service was ok but they could have engaged with us more that may have resulted in additional drinks. pricing = expensive for what you get. won't be back, 5/10.

really dissapointing... very nice looking place, best restaurant in oz 2010, you would think good things. unfortunately a terrible experience all round. food took along time to come out, an hour for steak and got 2 of them wrong. it was a wednesdaynightand tables free all over. when giving marco the manager honest feedback in a nice way, he jumped on the defence and didn't do anything about it. $300 bill, happy to take the money with no interest in repeat business. that's what they will get. never felt the need to complain in my life, but this was the first and i will spread the word. i hope people thinking of visiting do not have the same experience.

won't dine here again!. a lot of ishka (gaelic for water) has passed under the bridge from 2010 when they won an award for best restaurant. i wish i had read other diners reviews before bringing my staff here for a midweek all expenses spared meal but obviously i didn't which has lead me to write this!
waitress was on her firstnightthere so not her fault but we had to ask if we could get drinks ( a huge no no in any restaurant).
then our entree was misrepresented, it should have said tiger prawn on the menu not tiger prawns as there was only one with three egg thingies of bland description underneath to pump it up. my scallops were also tiny and only three. not what i would expect for both dishes being $24.
the mains were nice but my lamb rump was chewy. desserts were marvellous however so that was a big plus and luckily didn't leave my guests with too sour a taste in their mouths however they weren't paying the bill!
at the end i payed the account without fuss (stupidly) and was short changed by the male staffer who kept giving us the evil eyes to get us to leave. we felt ripped off and i mentioned that if any husbands had of joined us they would have asked to go to mcdonalds afterwards as there wasn't much food.
it is such a shame we are left with this experience as it is such a beautiful location.

very good food but far too noisy for anyone over 40 on a saturdaynightfor dinner. 4 of us went for dinner on a saturdaynightat 7.30pm and all had really good food - barramundi, trout, duck and risotto were all excellent. we also enjoyed the breakwater cabernet merlot, one of the cheaper bottles of wine at $40 but a fairly good drop. however, the noise from the bar below was really loud. there is also another bar upstairs across from the restaurant but most of the noise came from the bar area below which was open to the restaurant area above. i could not hear my friend sitting to the left of me. we did not have entrees because we planned then to go to a quieter place for dessert and coffee. by the time we had had our main course i was really ready to leave. this is a shame because it has good surroundings and serves excellent food.

incredibly rude and incompetent. my best friend was visiting perth for a few days so i decided to treat her to a special dinner at ishka. i rang and made a booking for 8pm that night. i gave my name and number and double checked everything.my husband and i had been there for lunch a few months before and thought it had been nice so i was excited about taking my best bud there for a greatnightout. we got there at 8pm and was told it was fully booked and there was no record of my reservation. i asked them to check their bookings and nothing. i even asked if there was another restaurant in perth with the same name, in case i had rung the wrong 'ishka' and no there isn't. i even showed them the number i had called on my phone and it was theirs. a woman who looked like the manager came over and confirmed there was no record of my reservation. the woman looked and spoke to me as if i were a total idiot, however i remained very polite and said that wasn't a problem as i didn't want to spoil the evening for my best friend who i hadn't seen in a long time. i was offered no apology whatsoever. we were told to wait at the lounge until a table came up. so that's what we did. we had so much to catch up on that before we knew it over an hour had gone by and we were still chatting.....but no table had been made available. i went over to check and noticed there were plenty of tables available! so i approached the woman and told her we had been waiting. she responded as if she didn't know who i was! we sat down and had mediocre meals. i am so disappointed at how incompetent the reservation system and the staff was. moreso i was disappointed at how i was treated. i was so co-operative and polite to them and they treated me so badly after what had been a mistake on their part. no apology, no smiles, no complimentary anything for having made us wait so so long and for treating us so rudely. i will never be back and i will tell my friends and colleagues to go to places like mia cucina where the food is excellent and the views sublime, rather than ishka where you are treated badly and the food is extremely overpriced.

3rd time unlucky. lastnightwas our 3rd visit to ishka. previous experiences were positive but lastnightnot so.
we had pork belly and chicken breast. both were bland and the chicken dry and without any sauce.
certainly not worth the money and really with such a limited menu surely it's not that hard to get it right.
like others say they push hard with drinks.
won't be getting my money again.

i've been here a few times now and am always impressed. my partner and i took my mum here recently while she was visiting from the uk and we were seated on a table on the balcony overlooking the water, which was lovely. the food as always was outstanding and our waiter (i think his name was lewis) was excellent, so friendly and efficient - as are all the staff. thanks ishka for making thenightspecial for my mum! will be back soon for anothernightof deliciousness :)

great restaurant. my boyfriend and i dined here last night, despite the breakwater being our local this is the first time we've been to ishka, but it definitely won't be the last time! the scallops were perfection, the fish of the day (gold band snapper) was so fresh and delicious and our waitress was lovely! the music from the bar downstairs is quite loud but i don't think it spoils the ambience, it's also quite expensive but i guess you get what you pay for. looking forward to taking my mum here next year when she visits from the uk :)
