ishka restaurant at the breakwater

despite reading all the negative reviews my partner and i still decided to come and dine here and we were more than happy with the food and service. having a number of dietary requirements eating out can be difficult however thestaffwere more than accommodating to my needs. we ordered the seafood plate as an entree, and had the barramundi and the special of the night which was the baked veal. we also ordered a couple of sides. food was cooked perfectly and couldn't fault anything. it can get quite noisy from the bar downstairs so if you want a quiet place to dine maybe don't go there but we enjoyed the atmosphere. will definitely go back again.

i wanted to love this place, but i found the food a little too fancy.  i had the gnocci that said it had a sugo sauce but it literally had a teaspoon worth so it did lack a bit of flavour.  the desert however was yummy!  thestaffwere extremely friendly and attentive so can't fault them at all.  it is a great atmosphere.

"cakeage" fee?! we've all h.... "cakeage" fee?!
we've all heard of corkage but have you heard of "cakeage"? thestaffhere want $4 per person (24 of us around the table) to cut your brought in birthday cake and use their plates! its an absolute disgrace! what an awful way to ruin someone's birthday celebrations.

just no!!! food generally ok, service - zero, music deafening. i know it is a pub but if you are going to have a "classy" restaurant in the premises the noise needs to be softened. toilets disgusting. friendlieststaffwere the guys on the door. but service absolutely appalling, i don't blame the waitresses there seemed to be no one in charge, no one taking control.
never ever again :(

i’ve been here so many times and it’s always nice. gorgeous setting looking out over the marina. thestaffare always very professional and courteous. the menu seems to change quite regularly. the lunch special of $32 for a meal and a glass of wine is really good value (i think they do this every day except sunday). its a lovely place to enjoy a quiet lunch in a beautiful location.

had a midweek business dinner at the breakwater. i had the veal cheek to start and the fish special for main. i can't remember exactly what the fish was but it was definitely overcooked, the sides were ok. others had fish, one barramundi which looked delicious, and another the same as me, no complaints from either. the veal cheek was ok too, nothing special.

really nice venue andstaffwere nice.

i would like to say that i enjoyed my experience tonight but unfortunately the service went missing. we had to wait easily 15 minutes just to order a drink, unfortunately the waitress didn’t know how to use the ordering tablet and didn’t know the difference between a cider and a cocktail. once we got our drinks orders a different waitress came to take our food order and after that all service that we had waited for disappeared. once we had finished our first round of drinks we had to ask astaffmember for the drinks menu so we could order another drink, yet again we had to wait for our order to be taken. only after our meals had arrived we had to ask again for our drinks to be ordered. by the time our drinks arrived we had just about finished our meals. the worst part of the night was that is was my daughters 18th birthday and i convinced her to go to ishka over cocoa’s as the last time i went to ishka the service was brilliant. you have dropped the ball and i will have to think twice about going again.

do not get the oysters here. they are microscopic. service completely inattentive. had to go get our own water, as even though two separatestaffmembers asked if we wanted any, no one actually brought it out. food took forever to arrive. we went for 2 x fish special ($44) and 1 x steak special ($44). mains were very tasty. steak dish was not a bad size either. the fish dish didn't look very filling. the side of chips ($9.50) consisted of very large slices of potato, would have been nice with a sauce/dip to break up the mouthfuls of potato. we had the blood orange cocktail, the turkish delight cocktail and the rose petal cocktail ($18 each). they were all tasty but didn't taste at all alcoholic. went went for 2 x eton mess for dessert ($15 each). mine had collapsed on the plate so looked like a dog's breakfast. i think it lacked fruit, fruit sauce and cream and was overpowered by a lot of meringue. lovely decor and dim lighting and luckily the breakwater downstairs wasn't too loud. the three tables on the balcony overlooking the sunset and marina would be the perfect seating. although the food was tasty enough, it was expensive and the service was completely nondescript therefore i would not return.

went here for dinner on a saturday night without booking a table. the waitstaffpromptly found us a table and service was excellent through our meal. very pricey but quality of food was high so it was an enjoyable dining experience for a special occasion.

won't dine here again!. a lot of ishka (gaelic for water) has passed under the bridge from 2010 when they won an award for best restaurant. i wish i had read other diners reviews before bringing mystaffhere for a midweek all expenses spared meal but obviously i didn't which has lead me to write this!
waitress was on her first night there so not her fault but we had to ask if we could get drinks ( a huge no no in any restaurant).
then our entree was misrepresented, it should have said tiger prawn on the menu not tiger prawns as there was only one with three egg thingies of bland description underneath to pump it up. my scallops were also tiny and only three. not what i would expect for both dishes being $24.
the mains were nice but my lamb rump was chewy. desserts were marvellous however so that was a big plus and luckily didn't leave my guests with too sour a taste in their mouths however they weren't paying the bill!
at the end i payed the account without fuss (stupidly) and was short changed by the male staffer who kept giving us the evil eyes to get us to leave. we felt ripped off and i mentioned that if any husbands had of joined us they would have asked to go to mcdonalds afterwards as there wasn't much food.
it is such a shame we are left with this experience as it is such a beautiful location.

expensive and very underwhelming. we went to this restaurant in a family party of ten last saturday. the booking had been made several weeks prior. when another family member had made the reservation based on a special offer and confirmed the date, she was not advised that offer would not be current for the date of our booking. she was only advised this when we were finally all seated at the table and with two elderly family members in our party, one of them diabetic we really did not have the choice of relocating elsewhere to eat once all ten people had arrived. two members of our party were running a little late, even so, the table had not been set and we all had to wait until astaffmember saw fit to rectify this. we had been sitting waiting about fifteen minutes at this stage. the restaurant was almost empty, so it is not as if they were rushed off their feet. we were not met upon arrival and had to search where other members of our party were sitting. the service was average. nothing poor but not outstanding. the food while nicely cooked, was very expensive for what it was. the main course servings were small with even sparser garnish. there were no separate salads on the menu to choose from. the male members of our party, all six of them left the restaurant still feeling hungry. the view is nice, yes but not worth $40 for a small serve of food. the atmosphere was average to ordinary. the only outstanding things about this restaurant are the view and the prices. we were disappointed and underwhelmed. there are better restaurants in perth that serve equal if not better quality food, do not charge these prices, have a great atmosphere and make you feel very welcome. if we have a choice, we will not be going back to this posh pub cafe.

incredibly rude and incompetent. my best friend was visiting perth for a few days so i decided to treat her to a special dinner at ishka. i rang and made a booking for 8pm that night. i gave my name and number and double checked everything.my husband and i had been there for lunch a few months before and thought it had been nice so i was excited about taking my best bud there for a great night out. we got there at 8pm and was told it was fully booked and there was no record of my reservation. i asked them to check their bookings and nothing. i even asked if there was another restaurant in perth with the same name, in case i had rung the wrong 'ishka' and no there isn't. i even showed them the number i had called on my phone and it was theirs. a woman who looked like the manager came over and confirmed there was no record of my reservation. the woman looked and spoke to me as if i were a total idiot, however i remained very polite and said that wasn't a problem as i didn't want to spoil the evening for my best friend who i hadn't seen in a long time. i was offered no apology whatsoever. we were told to wait at the lounge until a table came up. so that's what we did. we had so much to catch up on that before we knew it over an hour had gone by and we were still chatting.....but no table had been made available. i went over to check and noticed there were plenty of tables available! so i approached the woman and told her we had been waiting. she responded as if she didn't know who i was! we sat down and had mediocre meals. i am so disappointed at how incompetent the reservation system and thestaffwas. moreso i was disappointed at how i was treated. i was so co-operative and polite to them and they treated me so badly after what had been a mistake on their part. no apology, no smiles, no complimentary anything for having made us wait so so long and for treating us so rudely. i will never be back and i will tell my friends and colleagues to go to places like mia cucina where the food is excellent and the views sublime, rather than ishka where you are treated badly and the food is extremely overpriced.

we came here last thursday for our anniversary dinner, the atmosphere was lovely, thestaffwere attentive and the food was delicious. with that being said i noticed that some things were missing from each plate that we ordered that was on the menu. slow roasted pork belly had a vegetable terrine missing, the duck had kale missing and our molten chocolate cake with ice cream had no balsamic and caramel reduction glaze... even though those things were missing the food was great and we will go back.

don't waste your time and money. what an appalling restaurant. sent our plates back three times for it still to arrive cold. i received the wrong meal and had to wait over twenty minutes whilst my companions finished there meals and thestaffcould not care less. seems like a tourist trap asstaffhave the worst attitude i have encountered.

over priced food. the food was over priced ! poor quality and very small portions,staffpushed drinks none stop to boost the bill, obviously dollars are more important then food quality or freshness
spent $150 for 3 and had to eat elswhere afterwoods, would not go there again, even our interstate visitors thought it was a joke
