we arrived on a saturday afternoon, around 12 and the line was massive. round 6-7 groups were waiting before us. it took around 20min for us to get a table, which is still quick for me considering the long line.
blue is the main color for the shop, looks really fresh and modern. items in menu are fusion asian. weorderedcrab scrambled egg and french toast forever. the serving was huge and the decoration is really impressive.

scrambled egg was creamy and delicious, well-combined with siracha mayo. crossant is my favorite so cant go wrong with that.

french toast is stuffed with cream cheese, served with generous amount of fresh fruit: fig, berries, banana and grapes.

we were so full that we couldnt finish the toast but it was a really good brunch, totally worth it.
the only drawback is the long wait, the line was the same after we finished which was around 2. if you dont mind the long wait, i highly recommend this place

came with my mum and two friends yesterday. just a heads up that if you wish to avoid the queue, come early! we arrived at 11:20 and but waited for an hour to get inside. but food here sas super amazing! weordered4 dishes, 4 lattes and a matcha bingsu. the portions were huge! we almost didn’t finish the bingsu because we were so full. the food was instagrammable and delicious, which stands out from other competitors. definitely will come back!

staff were quick, efficient and polite. they got us seated quickly, and attentive to get our order soon after.

i had the matcha latte which was silky and not too sweet, and balanced with the bitterness of matcha.

i alsoorderedthe crab meat scramble. i enjoyed the scrambled eggs on croissant with the hints of chilli. however, i couldn't really see the crab meat or taste much of it. overall, still an enjoyable dish.

i would still be interested to try the other dishes.

we went to humble rays on a windy and chilly afternoon after failing to get a seat at another cafe nearby. the service was prompt, pleasant and friendly. weorderedthe duck congee, creamy mushroom udon, bingsoo and waffles. everything weorderedwas delicious and arrived quickly despite being quite busy. was very happy with everything. definitely worth a return visit!

it did live up to the reviews. i went with a couple of friends in the morning and it was such a nice experience. the service was super welcoming and they personally tried to have a nice genuine conversation which was sweet and friendly. we hadorderedthe panna cotta, salmon and monkey which everyone enjoyed their individual dishes. i personally had the salmon with an extra poached egg and it was really filling. i thoroughly enjoyed it. the music they played was also enjoyable and the setout of the cafe was quite aesthetic for all my fellow instagrammers 😊

the food is quite consistent in terms of serving size and taste. i normally order the "egg benny": 2 slices of pork belly served on a japanese-style potato croquette. my friends hadordered"mushroom on toast" and "super salmon salad" - the former is vegan-friendly, and the latter for anyone after some healthy clean-eating!

bear in mind, they don't do reservations for the weekend, so best to queue up in advance. just make sure you have something to occupy yourself with as waiting time can take around 25-30 mins - especially with covid restrictions in place. quite a lot of weekend street parking spots nearby unimelb if you come early (just take note of parking restrictions/fees etc).

overall, friendly service and delicious food and drinks!

went today andorderedthe crab meat scrambled over croissant with my boyfriend ordering the same plus a poached egg. they ran out of croissants and replaced it with sourdough instand. it took over 30 mins for the food to come (its tuesday at 2.30pm it wasnt busy. and the couple before us ate and left before we even got our coffees) and it was lukewarm and my partner said his poached egg was cold like it was sitting on the bench for ages. disappointing.

excited to finally to dine-in for first time since covid lockdowns, so i wanted to choose a brunch place with a high rating on zomato. place was cute and looked presentable and clean, food was presented nicely. looked at the menu (they need to update the menu on here) and the crab chilli scramble caught my attention, especially because it was meant to be served with a croissant (literally the only few dishes with an image & always excited to try something different), except it came out with toast... i did not get informed, had i been informed i would've requested for a different dish before it was made with no issues. maybe it was the fact that eggs covered the toast almost completely that i had only remembered what i actuallyordered(croissant) or that i was hungry, but i didn't want to ask for a refund/exchange since i already ate half of it by the time i realised. i brought it up, and asked if interpreted the item incorrectly when i went to pay for the food or if they just ran out. apparently they were out an over an hour ago. she apologised that noone informed me, and i still paid in full. was a bummer because in terms of flavour, both the eggs and burgers were okay. definitely would of tasted much better with a croissant, crab taste was subtle. chips were soft and plain. burger is missing something in terms of flavour, maybe some onions? i work in the hospitality industry as both a waitress and a kitchen hand, so this is more about the basics of customer service 😕 the latte was nice though.

visited humble rays on a saturday morning, the line was super long however the wait time was not too bad as we got a table outside. service was prompt and friendly. weorderedmonkey business (hong kong waffles) and chilli crab scramble, both dishes were the perfect combination of flavours. chilli crab scramble could've had a little more crab meat, however this is pretty standard in all brunch places and the crab flavour was still there. would definitely reccomend humble rays and revisit as they have a few interesting items on their menu!

had to queue for about 15 minutes even-though it was only for myself. had the wagyu beef burger and it was great. the beef patty wasn’t the best but it was still good. however, the sauce made the burger was tasted impeccable.orderedthe chai latte as well and it was good enough. a good place for brunch indeed.

my rating: 3.5

i believe this cafe is over-hyped. i found the food to be rather average, really nothing special to rave about. service was friendly and atmosphere somewhat good.

why are there always long queue outside the cafe? it seems to be quite popular amongst the asian community due to the owner/chef being thai and the menu is modern fusion.

🔆location🔆

humble rays cafe is situated on corner of bouverie street and queensberry street. it is about 6 minutes walk from queen victoria market.

the cafe is quite spacious with a green and white interior colour theme palette.

🔆service🔆

whilst waiting for my friend to arrive, iordereda matcha latte. but for some reason it took a very long time to arrive. the family that sat down next to me after i hadorderedmy drink, received their drinks first.  it turned out that the young waitress accidently gave my order to their table first.

overall staff was friendly and they were able to accommodate my request in removing chilli from my meal due to my allergy.

🔆menu🔆

crab meat scramble, $21.00
(crab meat scramble eggs, asian herbs, fried shallot, sriracha mayo, red chilli, chilli oil served with croissant)

chicken hot sauce, $16.50
(korean hot sauce marinated chicken, sweet pickled root vegetables, black sesame mayo, fried shallots, cabbage & coriander, leek slaw on black charcoal bun)

match latte, $5.00
fresh squeezed orange juice, $7.50

iorderedthe crab meat scramble and requested without chilli and they were able to accommodate it and i had specifically requested to have the scrambled eggs on the side of the plate and not inside the croissant to avoid it being soggy. i was excited to try it because its one of humble ray's specialty dishes. however it fell short of my expectations.  the croissant was unfortunately not fresh, crunchy or buttery it was quite soft and biting into it it lacked texture.
the amount of eggs was very generous but flavourless.
