mmmmmm....agnificent!. this place serves the most delicious food and it is unlike any other restaurant you will find here in the valley. i usually start off with the steamed mussels and the double dipper for appetizers (yum!) and for my entree i get either a chicken and spinach flat bread, or if available, the ribeye. if you are awinelover you will especially love this restaurant. definitely try this place out. you will not be disappointed.

disappointing. with all of the good reviews our expectations were high. unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. went with another couple last week. the first issue is that this place cannot decide if it is a club/bar or high end restaurant. it failed on both accounts for us. the music was so loud we couldn't have a conversation. the food was over priced for the quality. the risotto was overcooked (rice had split) and adding extra $9 for shrimp (which was 4 small and overcooked!!). the carbonera pasta had a good amount of pancetta, but the sauce was thin, and watery. my friend had the smoked salmon pasta. the pasta had very little flavor and the few thin slices of salmon (maybe 2 oz) was like the packaged stuff you get at heb. ok, i will say the spinach, chicken and asiago flatbread was good. the crust was obviously premade and the toppings added and heated as ordered. thewinelist is good, but we are not big drinkers and the waitress was very pushy with the wine/drinks. we like to support local businesses, so it is unfortunate that we were not happy with this experience

promising but could improve. nice staff and setting, varied menu and decentwinelist makes this establishment attractive.
food has all the right ingredients and the plating is good but the timing is a bit off from the kitchen to your spot. the seared ahi tuna looked great but reached me a bit too late being lukewarm on the outside and with the large portion, the dish was cold about a quarter of the way through. it is a shame as i enjoyed the fresh tomato caper relish. the desert, a banana cream pie was prepared early and stored in the fridge for the day. the addition of a freshly caramelized pear could not offset the colder temperature of the pie, unfortunately.
the flavors are nice, and if the dishes timing could be improved then this would be truly very enjoyable food.

culinary heights. to dine at house, wine& bistro is a gastronomic education for all your papillae; taste buds, across deep south texas, demand the experience! the words "sensational" and "ambiance" are no longer catacombed in the depths of merriam webster's dictionary, nor do they remain strangers--they are alive, very well acquainted and coalesce to create an atmosphere unlike any other at this bistro. hostess, server--nay, the entire staff--operate on a level of perfection and synchronicity that would reduce an atomic clock to a sun dial. alive, vibrant, precisely executed and a departure from the "usual fare" only begin to describe the food. wine? a sommelier would approve! please, invest in this education and graduate onto new culinary heights

delicious food and wine. i have been here twice with a friend and each time the food is delicious. the staff is super helpful when it comes towineselection and will give you generous samples to try. our food was delicious. while the food did take a while for it to come out, it was yummy. we had the banoffee pie for dessert which was good, but the crust was really hard. overall though, this place is awesome.

a glass of wine. we arrived here after 10pm hungry and thirsty! my handsome date and i were seated immediately but we were informed the kitchen was closed and they were no longer serving food. it was ok, i understood it was late so we ordered a glass of wine. i did see the menu listed two sizes/prices for thewineand without our knowledge we were served the pricier/bigger glass of wine. i was fine with that but i do think the waiter should check with the customer beforehand. thewinewas very good and was smooth. i cant recall whichwinewe had but the atmosphere was ok. a little too loud for my taste and this from a place that was pretty empty except for a few people and 4 at the bar. the bar group were loud. other than that i'd definitely go to have a drink or two.

fantastic dinner!. after reading glowing reviews of house.wine, my wife and i tried it and enjoyed a fabulous dinner. our duck and brie (listed as appetizer, but my wife selected as entree) were the best we have eaten and the yahweh (sp?) salads were delicious as well. the happy hour house merlot ($4 a glass) from a small napa valley vineyard was quite good and we chose affordable french wines .. a beujolais (sp?) and a bordeaux... with our entrees. the service was excellent and the atmosphere comfortable, with very nice live guitar music. housewineis now on our short list of excellent mcallen restaurants. (we live in harlingen 30 miles away.) the tab was a bit steep for the valley but worth it ... $108 including five glasses ofwineand a tip. (visited february 2013)

fabulous service, extraordinary food. from the moment of entering the restaurant through each course and upon leaving, the staff were very excellent. staff provided an excellent recommendation forwinewith the meal and respected simple request for a good old bottle of lonestar.
garlic/lime shrimp, lamb chops and ribeye steak were top rate. risotto and pasta were perfect.
if i were from mcallen, this would be one of my most visited restaurants.

our favorite restaurant!!!. housewineis our favorite restaurant!! fantastic food, great energy, and an amazing staff that is eager to make your dining experience as smooth as possible! needless to say, the whole dining experience keeps us coming back for more. you've got to try the garlic lime shrimp, caesar salad with grilled salmon, lamp chops or any of the homemade flat breads - the "bee sting" flat bread is a stand out and our personal favorite. be sure to ask about any special entre the chef & owner may have whipped up for the night - his mouthwatering specials are sure to lure you off menu. whether you are local or just passing through...housewineshould be at the top of your list!

wtf. great atmosphere, great food, great wine, great service, now will someone please teach them how to put it all together.

ordered bottle of beer with a slice of lime. got beer in a glass with a slice of lime....ordered garlic lime prawns, got some sort of calimari.....couldn't eat the calimari, so i was given complimentary plate of lime prawns...half way thru the liime prawns, main course appears.....companion was asked if he was finished with a fork still full of food. the bread i ordered with dinner never appeared

ok, ok, i get it. need to turn and burn to keep profits, but for christ sake, give a man what he asks for, let him finish what he's ordered.....staff can preachwineby the name, year, age, colour etc, but when it comes time to order the wine, which the stafff have been sprouting about for the previous 30 minutes, "sorry but we don't have that wine".

late edit......spent most of the morning after our venture, in the throes of absolute misery and pain. dioreah, nausea, facial rash you name it i had it.......

overall......-10/10 pjn
