our experience was great. from the excellent service we got to the exquisite food we ordered. to start off the calamari is awesome. the butternut squash soup is really good. i was going to order the mcallen ranchhouseburger, but the server recommended the gouda burger and it was really good! it's not listed on their menu but it's theirhousespecialty. all the pasta dishes my other guests ordered were really good also. the dessert we ordered was named choco-mole or something like that, it was good but had a really strong taste of either espresso or cinnamon for our taste buds.

fantastic dinner!. after reading glowing reviews of house.wine, my wife and i tried it and enjoyed a fabulous dinner. our duck and brie (listed as appetizer, but my wife selected as entree) were the best we have eaten and the yahweh (sp?) salads were delicious as well. the happy hourhousemerlot ($4 a glass) from a small napa valley vineyard was quite good and we chose affordable french wines .. a beujolais (sp?) and a bordeaux... with our entrees. the service was excellent and the atmosphere comfortable, with very nice live guitar music.housewine is now on our short list of excellent mcallen restaurants. (we live in harlingen 30 miles away.) the tab was a bit steep for the valley but worth it ... $108 including five glasses of wine and a tip. (visited february 2013)

our favorite restaurant!!!.housewine is our favorite restaurant!! fantastic food, great energy, and an amazing staff that is eager to make your dining experience as smooth as possible! needless to say, the whole dining experience keeps us coming back for more. you've got to try the garlic lime shrimp, caesar salad with grilled salmon, lamp chops or any of the homemade flat breads - the "bee sting" flat bread is a stand out and our personal favorite. be sure to ask about any special entre the chef & owner may have whipped up for the night - his mouthwatering specials are sure to lure you off menu. whether you are local or just passing through...house wine should be at the top of your list!

great wine, great food!. my wife and i treat ourselves once a month to a spectacular meal, we like different places and have tried several, but the only one that has made it to our "treat" place more than once ishousewine. everything i have tried i have loved, but hands down my favorite is the puttanesca they put together.. great wine, great food...

lunch, dinner, or both.... great place for a nice glass of wine (they have a good selection), they could work on their argentine malbecs, though.

salads are excellent, as it is already a feat to find a decent salad in the valley.

overall, i am glad we havehousewine as a restaurant here.

too much salt!. i had just moved here from new york city and had heard all about this winehousebistro, so i finally i gave it a shot ambiance was nice but it took a little while for someone to acknowledge us (i guess because we're not locals), so finally we were attended to by one of the owners and we ordered the mussels, flatbread, and double dippers for apps. when the order came it looked pretty straight forward but then we tasted and everything had way to much salt. when it was time to take our entree orders we mentioned if we could have less salt and our server was defensive to the point that we were offended, so we asked for our check and got up and ate dinner elsewhere. maybe we were there on an off night (who knows)?

mcallens best kept secret. if you have by-passedhousewines you have missed mcallens best kept secret. an assortment of great wines is only the beginning. order lunch and dinner from a menu that
has dishes bursting with fresh ingredients and flavor. cabanara? ceasar salad? flatbreads? dessert?
top that off with the personal service of chef larry. host jessica and staff will treat you to service "fit for a king"
