amazing food and amazing service. make sure to make a reservation. we ordered the shrimp prosciutto for appetizer, which was good but could have used some balsamic vinegar and pesto or something. we then ordered the entrees of ahi tuna and that night's special of bacon wrapped pork loin with polenta (i think) and side ceaser salads. the "anchovie filet" on the salads were different than we imagined but tastedgreatwith head of lettuce on each of our plates. the ahi tuna and pork belly were both cooked perfectly. the pork loin needs to be a regular menu item! i don't know how we had any more room, but we ordered the homemade strawberry sorbet, cheddar, and chocolate strawberry ice creams. so good! can't wait to come back!

promising but could improve. nice staff and setting, varied menu and decent wine list makes this establishment attractive.
food has all the right ingredients and the plating is good but the timing is a bit off from the kitchen to your spot. the seared ahi tuna lookedgreatbut reached me a bit too late being lukewarm on the outside and with the large portion, the dish was cold about a quarter of the way through. it is a shame as i enjoyed the fresh tomato caper relish. the desert, a banana cream pie was prepared early and stored in the fridge for the day. the addition of a freshly caramelized pear could not offset the colder temperature of the pie, unfortunately.
the flavors are nice,and if the dishes timing could be improved then this would be truly very enjoyable food.

top of the list!!. after our daughter& her husband discovered house.wine. & bistro, we decided to try it out after their glowing reviews. they were not wrong!! what a wonderful menu,greatowners, friendly servers & comfortable atmosphere! our personal favorite is the butternut squash risotto; the lamb is superb & the garlic lime shrimp appetizer melts in your mouth. this hands-down has become our #1 go-to restaurant in the valley, and our friends all agree. everything on the menu is delicious & hats off to the chef & his wonderful staff! we'll be back soon ;)

our favorite restaurant!!!. house wine is our favorite restaurant!! fantastic food,greatenergy, and an amazing staff that is eager to make your dining experience as smooth as possible! needless to say, the whole dining experience keeps us coming back for more. you've got to try the garlic lime shrimp, caesar salad with grilled salmon, lamp chops or any of the homemade flat breads - the "bee sting" flat bread is a stand out and our personal favorite. be sure to ask about any special entre the chef & owner may have whipped up for the night - his mouthwatering specials are sure to lure you off menu. whether you are local or just passing through...house wine should be at the top of your list!

does the service match the quality of food, unfortunately not. after hearinggreatthings about this restaurant from friends i figured it was time to check it out with a few friends.
when we were greeted, (being ignored by a staff member behind the bar) we were greeted as we walked with sub-par enthusiasm by a staff member telling us we could sit wherever, he seemed to point to the back of the restaurant where we took our seats.
our waitress seemed flustered during much of time she spent with us as if she couldn't handle our order. it appeared she was in a hurry each time she came by the table as well.
our food was prepared appropriately as we had ordered it and came promptly despite the restaurant having a little dinner rush. our glasses were continuously kept full throughout our visit as well. obiously the kitchen staff is keeping this restaurant going because the wait staff needs work.
upon exiting a staff member behind the bar acted as if she didn't see us as we made eyecontact and looked away so she wouldn't have to talk to us, (the same as when we walked in).
expectations were not fulfilled, however, because the food was delicious and a new flavor in the valley, i will return to this resturant to give it another chance.
an overall rating of 6 out of 10.

ordered bottle of beer with a slice of lime. got beer in a glass with a slice of lime....ordered garlic lime prawns, got some sort of calimari.....couldn't eat the calimari, so i was given complimentary plate of lime prawns...half way thru the liime prawns, main course appears.....companion was asked if he was finished with a fork still full of food. the bread i ordered with dinner never appeared

ok, ok, i get it. need to turn and burn to keep profits, but for christ sake, give a man what he asks for, let him finish what he's ordered.....staff can preach wine by the name, year, age, colour etc, but when it comes time to order the wine, which the stafff have been sprouting about for the previous 30 minutes, "sorry but we don't have that wine".

late edit......spent most of the morning after our venture, in the throes of absolute misery and pain. dioreah, nausea, facial rash you name it i had it.......

great wine,greatfood!. my wife and i treat ourselves once a month to a spectacular meal, we like different places and have tried several, but the only one that has made it to our "treat" place more than once is house wine. everything i have tried i have loved, but hands down my favorite is the puttanesca they put together..greatwine,greatfood...

lunch, dinner, or both....greatplace for a nice glass of wine (they have a good selection), they could work on their argentine malbecs, though.

salads are excellent, as it is already a feat to find a decent salad in the valley.

overall, i am glad we have house wine as a restaurant here.

i loved this restaurant. what a gem. it is one of those places that is unique and has lots of character, withgreatfood and service to go along with it. the shrimp appetizer was slightly salty but great, and loved the salmon pasta w whole wheat spaghetti. and the flan and cheesecake were amazing. we took our coffee to the lounge area after dinner ... relaxed on the couch and enjoyed the live music (just a singer and his keyboard ...and the bose sound system was amazing). i will definitely be back the next time i visit mcallen.
